SF4 producer tells Ed Boon: Bring it on!

Yoshinori Ono responds to Mortal Kombat creator's trash talk.


Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono has responded to Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon's recent comment that MKVSDCU will "kick" Street Fighter IV's "ass" by saying "bring it on!".

Ono-san issued the rebuke in an interview with VideoGamer.com from Leipzig Games Convention, to be published later today. But he also welcomed the competition, saying that if the Midway published title can convert comic fans to fighting game fans, then "the more the merrier".

He said: "You know what, if they can turn the comic fan into a fighting genre fan, the more the merrier. If they can kick our ass, so be it, bring it on! We're in the same team as far as we're concerned so if they can do it, great."

The talk rekindles memories from the early Nineties, when Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat were the two biggest games on earth and playground fights centred around which fighter was better.

Currently, Street Fighter IV does not have a console release date, although it is out in Japanese arcades. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is due out for Xbox 360 and PS3 this autumn

That's one school of thought. Another might be that MKvsDC has already succeeded. When was the last time a Japanese developer responded substantially to anything MK had to say?

I think this is just another indication, along with the excited attention of a very broad range of sources, that the DC crossover is doing exactly what it's supposed to be. It's brought MK to the forefront again!

I'd love to know the history of both series in sales figures.
I'm inclined to think SF might have the more global appeal, but don't really know how strong MK's international centres are.

My thoughts: MK might get out of the blocks quite strong with the US market, but you've got to think SFIV will have longevity and greater cultural significance.

And I hope they keep this up too. I remember how serious some people would get back in the day over MK vs SF. And now?, the bosses are going at each other?

I didn't see this coming, but I do remember Boon saying that at, I think it was e3. I really do hope we end up getting a game out of this kind of behavior. Be a shameful waste otherwise I think. heheh... I don't know how it would work, but I want it.

It's too competent an upgrade to struggle that much. MKvsDC definitely has the instant gratification glitz, but as always, SF will have the legs to run.

This is funny because when I posted a news update about when Ed said this, Midway contacted me and asked me to take it down.
"I really need to ask you to pull down the GamePlay.com.au interview with Ed Boon. That interview is not authorized by Midway and seems to be taken completely out of context. I really want to ask that you guys check with us before posting or linking to any unofficial interviews and images. We are contacting GamePlay.com.au and asking them where they received this interview and asking them to pull this down immediately."
That original interview where Ed says "we're going to kick their ass" is fake. On the second page Ed says this about Klose Kombat: "No, no, no, there’s action and counter-action. It’s not, like, press A, and you press A, no." But that's actually exactly how it is. Also, alot of Ed's replies really don't sound like replies he would make. Alot of the words and phrases seem odd. Plus, Ed doesn't do interviews without Midway's knowledge. If Midway never knew about this interview, which is clearly the case, it didn't happen. That website posted a fake interview.

I would be inclined to agree with you if the same team was behind SF2 (or SF3) was behind this game, but that isn't the case, the hack behind Capcom Fighting Evolution is.
Street Fighter looks fuckin AMAZING (graphically), probably one of the best looking fighting games to come out (artistically).

But the fighting looks pretty boring sometimes. I might rent it.

They must not have liked it enough to have the vid pulled from whatever the fan site it was because, I can't find it again at the moment. Could be somewhere in my thread though....But I'm usually pretty good at finding things. I know it's out there. hahaha...

Just equals more entertainment to me, so I like the rivalry whether they like what he said or not. They gotta know that much, even if it's taboo for him to say certain things.

And if the interview is genuine, how do you explain Boon describing Klose Kombat completely opposite of how it is?
