Mr. Boon, I've been a Mortal Kombat fan since I was 9. I've gone out of my way to but all of your video games. I stood by the series when Armageddon came out without a story line, and even bought a Wii off eBay for $600 so I could play as Khameleon. I bought a Dreamcast just to play as Baraka, Mileena, Kitana, Kung Lao, Cyrax and Sektor in Mortal Kombat Gold. I have every character's biographies and endings down cold. I even own a copy of Mortal Kombat Annihilation. I stood by the series during its downfalls and I did my best to be a good and loyal fan to you. You and John Tobias changed the whole fighting genre for the better. You made the best video game franchise in history.

When Armageddon came out with the "Kreate-A-Fatality" system that was downright terrible, I knew that in the next video game you could improve upon it or just bring back the originals. I hoped that Hara-Kiris would come back too - one of the best improvements to the games in a long time. But now there will be no Fatalities.

I almost cried my way through classes today. I'm still recovering from what I heard. I understand your reasons for wanting to do a crossover with a well-established universe, not only will it help out Midway tremendously, but it speaks so highly of the universe you created. But the idea of making this a rated "T" video game, when it was built on the foundation of gore, I'll never understand. You promised us that Mortal Kombat 8 would be dark and gritty; as badass as Batman is, Superman is still a man in brightly colored spandex with the badassness of toothpick!

I hope for the best with this game. I wouldn't mind a crossover, and, like I said, I understand the decision...and I probably will buy your game, because, despite this, I am still as loyal a fan as I'll ever be.

So many promises of super-unlockables, comic books, and modes within the game that have never been fulfilled, and I still stood by Mortal Kombat. Forgive this harshness, but I hope all that has come out within the past day and a half about Mortal Kombat 8 will be nothing more than a series of broken promises like all the things we actually wanted in previous games, but never got.

Boy it has been a long time since I have been on these forums, its good to be back, among my people that is, crappy news about the game IMO.

I know too little about the game to decide whether I am buying yet or not (duh), but I am seriously leaning toward not. I have been suckered by the whole re-releasing tradition of the Mortal Kombat series, BUT I WAS DESPERATE FOR THOSE CHARACTERS/ STAGES WHAT HAVE YOU.

I dont know about this. On one hand I liked comics growing up as a kid. But I liked the gore and darkness to the Mortal Kombat games much more, and dont think they have place in the MK series. How could this game ever be true to all the die hard/original MK fans if it is rated teen? The fatalities (if there are any real ones) will probably be more like Killer Instinct than MK. All I can say is the gameplay and extras better be STELLAR for me to even think about buying this game, and I WILL be renting first.

I just don't understand the logic/timing of deciding to make this game now. You would think they would want to make the first MK game for the next-gen systems dark and gritty and a return to old school MK. I mean make the game what the die hard fans want and more. Then after a solid gold MK8 (with story reinvented, or at least tied up to some degree) is released, THEN do a crossover game. At least some MK fans would give it a chance, and be able to dismiss it as purely as crossover game that had NO impact on the series. To start the series off like this on next gen is sketchy, and to think that DC characters could work their way into MK cannon is absurd. Maybe the cannon for this game could go something like this, it was all a dream Liu Kang had right before he died as his life was flashing before his eyes he remembered the comic books he loved as a child, badabing badaboom, eneter Batman and Robin, Superman, etc.

Could this game be successful? Yes. But unless this game is flawless it will NEVER go over with MK fans who prefer a gritty nature. Is it a fun idea for a game, if it were a meaningless SECOND release game for a next gen system? Sure, no problem, just don't make it cannon. But this is the game we have been salivating over for several years now. Does Boon have the right to make the game of his dreams? YES. But in doing so ( if the teen thing goes through) he is COMPLETELY alienating his grassroots fanbase. Considering he is marketing the game to children who were babies when MK1 came out. The only thing I can think of is for some reason the DC price tag on its charcaters came down and Boon figured for financial reasons he had to make the game now. But this should have been the second MK game released for next gen systems. I may give it a shot, but its going to take A LOT of convincing. Only if I get to kill Batman, and make it extra gory.

Again, Kinetic... Sumed it all up!

Personally, I can't wait for this game. I love the DC Comics, and MK. Sure, the story might be horrible, and fatalities gone is pretty bad, but the MK story is already done forbecause of hte last two games, and Fatalities aren't the greatest thing. I'm just waiting for some more info on the actual gameplay.

The argument that MK vs. DC is okay/cool because it's "Ed Boon's dream" is stupid. He's not a lead game designer to fulfill his own personal, individual dreams; he's a lead game designer to make a game that will make Midway money. You make money for Midway by making a Mortal Kombat that the fans want, as well as a Mortal Kombat that non-fans will want as well.

As has been said already in this post, if this was/is just a non-canon, filler game that will be followed by a "true", canon MK8, then so be it. But if this is canon in the MK universe, and if we have to wait another couple of years for MK9, then the only thing I can say is that this is REALLY fucking stupid. Hell, it's fucking stupid regardless.

I will not be buying this game. I'm sure that Midway/Boon are, or will be, aware of the backlash that's occurring on the various MK-related websites, but not BUYING this game will really send the message that MK fans disapprove.

Even if they did, the world moves on. You've gone this long between MK:A and MKvDC, and you didn't die of starvation, no one stole your credit card, no one busted up your car, cut the power to your house, and cut the phone lines. No one stole all the food from your house. Life goes on. Live with it.

As for me, when MKvDC comes out, I'm going to buy it, play it, enjoy it, and have as much fun with it as can be humanly possible. And when I'm done, the world's not going to end.

See, what you're failing to realize, is that we pay for the following game with the purchases of the current game. So, with the purchases of MKA, we paid for Mk8 to be made.

We were then, lied to, and shocked unnecessarily, for the sake Midway's stock holders, and overall sales projections.

Basically, you spent your money on a game....and they gave you a piece of shit....and then, you put that piece of shit in your mouth and swallowed.

You don't know anything about business economics, or supply and demand...OR the morale concerning that relationship.

It's not just about the game itself. It's method, conduct, and concept based. = Betrayal.....essentially.

Hmm...interesting isn't it? Imagine buying a Nintendo when they first game out, with the intent of playing Mario Bros on it....but they made it a crossover game with a comic book franchise, changed the games rating to anything it is not, and took out Mario's ability to get fireballs, extra lives, or turn into a racoon and fly.

I actually don't care and ignore the people that offend Mk vets, because the naiveity of the consumer reaches preposterous levels. Sure, for everyone who will like the game, buy it, but there is no need to curse people that have helped mk along it's way, because if it weren't for people like the ones loathing this game, you children didn't have any forum to argue on.
I too, hate this whole idea, but again.. if it's non-canon, fine, let boon make his extra buck and have his extra time. If he decides that the game will be, however, canon... it will be one of the cheapest moves in the entire video game industry.

Buying garbage like Special Forces and buying constant re-releases doesn't make you a fan, it makes you a FANBOY and fanboyism is the biggest obstacle the MK franchise needs to overcome if there is ever going to be a solid Mortal Kombat title and that why MK VS DCU is in my opinion the best thing to happen to this franchise in a long while because the fanboys HATE it and Ed knows the fanboys hate it..

Ed wants to make some cash. He wants everyone to buy his games. He's the biggest fanboy of the MK franchise.
