Okay, so I spoke to my mom today about Crow coming up for spring break and she said that he can't stay over the house because she thinks he's going to steal or do something wrong. It's not because she dislikes him but because she doesn't trust him (?!). Then she says that he has to pay for his own flight and hotel which everything altogether costs about almost $400. He's not gonna make it on time for Spring Break. I offered to help pay and my mom forbids me. What am I going to do? And why is my mom being so difficult? I have friends who are in relationships and their parents don't give them a hard time. Why me? Why do people have a huge tree up their fuckin' ass? I swear to God, Life is just so unfair to me. I look forward to something and now I can't anymore.

I...have to get these things off my chest. It really pisses me off that I have friends who I personally hang out with, and are awesome but they do not understand that just because you are friends with someone on the internet, they can still be considered your friend...as many known on here I love this site and many people on it, you people are great friends...I just wish my friends who I hang with all the time could realize how I feel. I consider my friends on here to be equivalent to every day friends I chill with on a daily basis (physically.) So was over at Nick Z.'s house (a friend of mine) the other day, with another friend (Tamer). Here is the conversation we had. {Me} "Nick, I forgot to bring my laptop, can I use your computer to check my Myspace?" {Nick} "Yeah dude, it's cool. Just don't be on hella long, my mom will get pissed off, she doesn't like me being on the computer a lot." (I go on his computer and check my Myspace, then log out after a few minutes). This is the part where I get pissed off: {Tamer} "Ryan, who's that one chick on your top ei--(I cut him off) {Me talking} "Dude, don't give me this shit again, you guys were making fun of me in front of Connor and everyone, I gotta be honest you guys were being dicks". {Nick} "Well dude, it's just kind of weird that you put people you have only met through the internet as top friends before us, we actually hang out with you". {Me} "IT doesn't make a fucking difference!!" {Nick} "Yes it does, you are being hella nerdy about all this shit with the internet these days Ryan." (He saw me in mIRC and on here one time, so he knows the stuff I do). {Me} "Well dude, it's like just because I put someone else on my Top Eight on MySpace before people like you and Tamer, doesn't mean I don't like you both as much, all my friends are equal the way I look at it". (We kind of just argued on and on until I decided that the conversation was fucking pointless, so we just chilled and went to 7-11. However, they pissed me off with ANOTHER pressuring conversation:

{Tamer}"So Ryan, you gonna go to hella parties and shit this year?" {Me} "It'll be my first year of High School, so probably." {Nick} "Dude, I know you said all this shit about your anti-drug and drinking oath, but seriously dude, I KNOW you're gonna drink man". {Me} "Dude, I've already explained this to you. I have sworn to the people I love that I will not drink. I am 13, not fucking 21. While I know people who drink and are not 21 years old, even though I can disapprove of it they are still my friends. But I still don't see why you and Tamer think it's so normal to drink in High School". {Tamer} "Dude. EVERYBODY DRINKS IN HIGH SCHOOL!!" {Me} "Well then, not me. The only shit I will have is things with caffeine, and that's fucking legal, and a lot more safe." {Nick} "Dude, this is why you aren't going to be invited to any fucking parties in High School, you can't just relax, listen to some music, hang out with people, and...have a beer or two." {Me} "Nick, I should know well enough how fucking bad it is, one night my brother came home completely hammered. My dad was so pissed off too." {Tamer} "Well Ryan, you just have to be responsible, one isn't going to get you drunk, unless it's vodka or some shit". {Me} "Still, the answer is no and I have sworn to not get in to underage drinking. Or any other illegal shit like drug use". {Tamer} "Dude, I understand what you're saying about responsibility, I think it's cool as long as you stay away from alcohol as much as you can." {Me} "Whatever man, it's just about me making independent choices and one of them is to be responsible." (We just went in to 7-11, got some shit, and just talked about other shit on the way back.)

I wound up just like your friend put it. I didn't (and still don't) get invited to much of anything back home simply because I don't drink, and I'm happy to find that my friends at college and on here respect that.

m0s3pH is right. I seriously thought you were having the technically defined panic attack at first but, one thing you need to do is stand up for yourself. Some parents don't learn to fully respect you until they see what kind of person you've developed into.

If all else fails, do what the saying suggest and....."get a room." Funny, but not so funny when the shit hits the fan like this.....I've not only seen this, but I've been though this situation a tideous amount of times.

You don't have to have him stay with you>>with your parents. You're old enough. Especially if you are willing to pay anyway...go for the other option. It's legal for you two and it's respectable that you are willing to make that sacrifice for Crow to your parents.

What you wanna do 'Babe, is define yourself to your parents...but respectfully. You don't have to argue or "fight" your parents on this one. You just have to respectfully clarify yourself to them.

One situation I went though when I had to stay with cousins house for about 2yrs is, "pay the rent but leave the house". It let's them know that it's not about the "money" at all. It's about what you want for yourself and your life. They tried to force me to give them money in past months back then. And I refused(I was 16 at the time) repeadedly even though I knew life wise, they were right, I did, or should be getting prepared to pay rent on my own. They ended up taking me to my bank and talking AT me that day. I remember vividly, I went in the bank, withdrew 400$, and came back outside to the car full of expecting elder cousins.....They figured I had nowhere to go and nothing to do about the situation. I had something else in mind. I leaned in the Toyata Carrola window, handed the powerhouse of a couple (husband and wife, the only one in my family) the money and uttered the words: "Here, this is to show you it's not about the money."

I walked away from the car in the middle of the day off into the world about as calmly as I had uttered those words..... All they could do is watch in disbelief. We respect eachother as adults AND as family members now. For the wife: we talk about bills and the wonders of having kids now, For the Husband: we share "war stories" over beer and bigscreens. See how that works? They can define me now personally, morally, and as a "man", a man of virtue.... But I didn't keep going along with what they thought was right for me.....I did me.

Apply this kind of moral standard for yourself to your parents, it will let them know that this is extremely important to you. Something you must do. I'll tell you just by reading your post there, It seems you're old enough to where your parents are waiting for you to "show them they raised you right". Make the choice.

As others said before, dont let your mother bully you around. I know she has your best interests at heart, but some of the things that she does seem out of line. If you want to pay for ~Crow~ to come over with your own money, you should be allowed. You are an adult, and can make your own decisions. It shouldnt be left up to others to tell you what to do.

And like someone else said before (I think m0s3pH), why dont you go to visit him? I know it is a bit extreme, but that way you will be paying for yourself, not for ~Crow~, and I am sure he would help out seeing as he was willing to pay to travel to you. And you could maybe stay with him. As I said, its a bit extreme, but if your mother is going to be too restrictive, that is what you may have to do to see him.



No offence or anything, but the way you described these "friends" of yours... well... I dont really think those are what I would call good friends. They obviously didn't respect your decision not to drink//do drugs, and neither do they respect your decision to have internet friends. To me, a real friend is someone who accepts you for who you are and likes you exactly how you are, and dont need you to change for them. These guys don't really fit this mould, and they just dont seem like good friends to me. Anywayz, if those are how your "real life" friends treat you, then I wouldnt blame you for putting an "internet" friend as your no. 1.

If you are 20 then surely your mother should not have a say in such matters, especialy with what you do with your own money....

OK maybee she does have the right to decide weather or not Crow can stay in her house.....but thats as far as it goes. But that aside you can still get some money to Crow so he can get there, and maybee you can stay in a Hotel or something, thats if you can afford such things.

Maybee once he gets there she will change her mind anyway.

I drink, but not often, the last party i went too i had half a beer, and that was me you dont need to drink to have fun so there is no excuse why you shouldnt go to a party just because people are getting wasted and you arent.
