OMG, we used to play the shit outta that game.
I foregot all about their fatalities.
I used to love Eternal Champions. Ahh the memories.
I'd advise the MK team to watch that by some of the shit they put in our game sometimes.

How many of you remember Eternal Champions and wished that it was brought back rebooted?

I remember it and wish it would never be remade or rebooted. Not even wanting a sequal.

I liked Eternal Champions though I never played the Sega CD version. Some of the characters were memorable (Larcen, Trident, Shadow, Midknight, Jetta Xavier) and the sprite art and animations were good for their time. I'd totally love a HD remake of the classic with tighter controls and perhaps an updated fighting engine. This game came out in the heels of vanilla Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat so things pretty common place now (like super meters, linking combo systems, etc) were absent.
Also, the Boss fight is memorable because of his "form shifting phases" and how difficult it was.
I'd love to see it come back as a digital release or something as I doubt it'd be a full AAA $60 title.

I loved this game despite any of its short comings. The characters were cool and I loved the whole concept. I had it on Genesis and remember it being really hard. You lose a fight, you go backwards. Would love some sort of updated version of it. My favorites were Shadow, Xavier, and Trident. Edit: Also, it had really cool music and stages.

Having a think about the forthcoming fatalities in MKX and wondered if any of you ever played Eternal Champions? Was watching through some youtube videos earlier, brought back a flood of memories. It probably had the strongest and most interesting storyline/set of characters outside of Mortal Kombat and the finishers were BRUTAL. Some of the gore they got away with back then, MKX would probably get an NC-17 for today. Level of detail is still ahead of MK. Anyway, here's a video of the fatalities from the sequel:

Personal outrageous pipe-dream is one day NRS would buy the rights and remake in 2.5D. What you think?

I assume you are talking about the Sega CD version of Eternal Champions, called "Challenge from the Dark Side".
Yes a lot of the finishers were super gory and the sprite work done to make those happen was pretty astounding, even by today's standards. It's a shame that the series will probably lay in Sega's vault collecting dust like a lot of it's older franchises.
Btw this thread still probably belongs in the general section.

Yeah, I loved both the Genesis original and the Sega CD sequel. The characters were really amazing. Remember the bio screen with all the different characters and their stories, not to mention the awesome music? Great stuff.
Can't believe they let a franchise like that just die off. Would love to see a quality dev pick up the rights to Eternal Champions and run with it. Would give us another quality fighting game that is similar to MK in it's darker tone and better than average characters and story.
Alas, this will probably never happen though. But here's hoping!

Yes, I played eternal champions and still have the first and sequel Challenge from the darkside. Larson and Trident were some of my favorites but their finishers were mainly screen placement stage fatalities which what drove me to play it in the first place.
I don't think they will ever bring back this series after the poor reception the sequel got.

I remember seeing those and they were EXTREME! Imagine this coming before MK it probably would've been just as popular. Too bad it controlled sort of weird (I have it on an emulator).
Great game though, Midway should've done a crossover with Eternal Champions rather than friggin DC comic characters...its too hard for me to consider MKvsDC as a legit MK game, which is why I refer to MK9 as MK8 and MKX as MK9. I think anything BUT DC would've worked (Darkstalkers, Killer Instinct, Tekken), but that's probably because I don't have the SLIGHTEST interest in DC comics, so I digress, I just pretend MKvsDC never existed, gameplay might've been good, but the concept was stupid.

The only lasting memories I have of Eternal Champions is that my brother owned a copy and I always played as the black guy. Deep, I know.
