I need some help figuring out which is the best way to do this. Before I get responses saying "You're an idiot", I already know this is not the smartest thing I could possibly do. That being said...

Some freinds and I are trying to dispose of a microwave. What we plan on doing is driving out into the middle of nowhere with an adaptor that allows you to plug electrical devices in your lighter plug of the car. Then we're going to get a bunch of extention cords and plug the microwave in far far away. Then we're going to put something highley flammable/explosive in it such as arasol cans or a small propane tank.

Herin lies the problem. When all is set up, which is the best way to turn on the microwave from a distance?

No clue about the power supply, but you should put Coke cans, forks, and shaving cream cans inside. Fireworks would be good, too, especially mortars.

Okay, maybe I wasn't clear enough.

How do I START the Mircowave from a safe distance, or MAKE it start from a distance.

btw, we're gonna microwave a small Propane tank. They sell 'em at Eagle Hardware for cheap.

Why don't you start it normally but on a lower setting, such as medium? It would give you more than enough time to get away, probably.

Don't go killing yourself, though.

Ditch the entire idea and give me the money it would've costed to fund this project.

Or, you can just put how long you want it to microwave... get really far away, and maybe with a paintball gun or sumthin.. and shoot the "COOK" button. I dunno, also maybe think about.. taking a long stick, get as far away from the microwave as you can... press whatever needed to make it cook.. and like.. run like all hell to your friends' car and drive the fuck away (have the car be close by and make sure someone is driving, silly). It'll also be a good idea if the car is already running.. at 5 MPH maybe.. you'll make it outta there faster.

But I would have a bunch of people recording the project so that if someone dies very badly, you can have it all recorded n' shit - post it on the internet too.

Sorry, just kidding (I apologize if I offended anyone). But dude, don't get yaself killed man. (well duh, of course you don't wanna be a martyr to this endeavor, but saying "be safe" is just showin' you we care.)
My first suggestion would be not to do it, it's very dangerous.

But if you are still going to do it how about this.
A pulley rig might do it.

Make a wooden device that you can attach to the side of the microwave, then connect it to some loooooong rope and have it set up so when you pull the rope, the stick will move back and push the button.

But hide behind something when you start the microwave, you don't know how far the blast will be, or the radiation.

Also some shrapnel might come flying straight towards you.

it happened to me once with an aerosol can, I threw it in the fire, ran like hell, then It blew up, and the can came flying straight at me like a boomerang and landed almost right where I was standing.

The can was all open like a sheet of paper.

It was pretty cool actually. grin

It doesn't get hot within an instance, so you have the time to push the button and walk away (or running if it makes you feel better).

Be sure to record it on video/digital-cam though. smile

Put a propane tank in it and shoot it with a gun from a distance

3 Things:

1. Don't do it, this is pretty stupid.

2. The propane tank will take time to heat up to "explosive" levels - but maybe not as long as some of you are thinking - remember - these are microwaves, not a "normal" way to increase the heat level of a propane tank, could have different effect.

3. I don't think it will work, I bet because the tank is metal and that it has edges that you will short out the microwave before the propane tank explodes. ALSO: This shorting out could reall mess up whatever car it is you are going to be plugging into. . .

Also, turning it on with a paintball gun is a ridiculous thought. Any type of wind could change the trajectory of your paintball and potentially hit the glass, breaking it and then you have no fun. If you are going to be a moron, be a moron 100% and hit the button and run like a mofo - otherwise don't do it at all. . . doing it halfway won't get you any notarity, just some people telling you you could have done it better by not being a poon with a stick.

I was thinking you should rig it so it's always on. Then don't plug it in until your far away.

Easiest way is to wire the power switch so that it turns on whenever plugged in. A screw driver and few minutes should work. Pile your stuff in and plug the last part into your extension cord (turning it on).

And if you insist on making it an aerosol can remember it is considered a bomb by most officials. Safe distance is depending on which side you face and what you pack in it. Minimum in my tests has always been at least 150 yards. And then Check to see if you can put something over your head and possibly some polymer or plexiglass for debris.

Spray paint works really well. Especially for checking your debris area. And if it don't go off yank the cord out before you go over, it might still set off without warning.
