I won't miss it too much, but I loved the idea of performing finishers on moving targets in KI2. The mechanic needed a ton of polishing, but hey, at least they freakin' tried. I've been wanting MK to incorporate fatalities into the gameplay for years.

Also, as cheap as "No Mercy's" looked, they were loaded with personality.

I saw in one of the interviews, the developer said they currently aren't in, but are listening to feedback and if enough of the community demands it they will do what they can to make it happen. Sounds to me like DH is taking orders from MS and that MS may possibly be aiming for a Teen rating on the game to appeal to a broader audience.

What I want is to hear the music playing in jago's theme clearly ;-; It's sounding good from what I think I'm hearing lol.

Despite not touching the XBone with a ten foot pole I will be supporting the fuck out of this game by giving input and picking it up since there seems to be a limited/collectors/whatever edition to be revealed. Gotta Support KI, I HOPE I get a chance to play that arcade cabinet, there's nothing like playing a KI game in an arcade like setting. :D

If there is enough high demand for finishers, the developers will most likely put them in. And it seems like it is indeed one of the most requested features fans wish for them to put in.

As much as I love Orchid, flashing boobs is a rather cheesy finisher. tongue

Just remembering the way their eyes bugged out makes me lol

Also; very cool observation from one of the guys at Shoryuken:

The music actually escalates as you do an Ultra Combo, right up to when you land the final hits (...) the hits you put on your opponent actually add beats to the soundtrack as it scales up, leading to the crescendo."

That's pretty dope.

So this game is a launch title for X-Bone, and it's coming out later this year, but we only get 3 characters in the reveal trailer? Anybody else find that odd?

PSAS, which only had a roster of 20 had 6 characters in it's reveal. I get that KI might not have many characters but still, we should've seen at least 4.

A petition for Doube Helix has been made for them to bring back the finishers, the No Mercy (Fatalities) and the Stage finishers, into the new Killer Instinct. This is a good way to show the developers what the fans want, as they asked them to:

They will show more at EVO and then even more in afterwards. That's what the developers said in the interviews anyways.

The returning characters confirmed so far besides Jago, Sabrewulf and Glacius are Fulgore, Cinder, and Spinal.

After watching interview with developers and more gameplay footage I think new KI is not that bad. They need to make graphics darker (optional) and get rid of the SF4 font, no matter what. Maybe gameplay should be a bit faster, but they had a good reason to make it slower.

One thing, that I don't like is why it's called just Killer Instinct, if it's actually sequel to the KI2. Nobody would have died, if they called it KI: Rebirth or Ressurection or any other generic and cheesy subtitle. It's partially understandable, but...really.

Though, after new Mirror's Edge which is said to be a prequel with the same name as the original game, I don't think any kind of insanity in the naming can surprise me anymore.

I'm glad you decided to look more into it before passing judgement. ^^

Just one thing... Slower? You feel the gameplay is slower than the previous games or is it compared to other games? To me, it looks alot faster than the previous games.

I know I seen that interview. But I'm saying that it's strange to only debut 3 characters, when we know all characters will probably return. Technically they only showed 2, because Glacius won't be playable until EVO. So yeah, considering when the game is coming out, I don't think showing 4 characters was asking too much.

I found this article on Polygon about how the new Killer Instinct game came about. Definitely a good read: Polygon - Defending Killer Instinct.
The article hints that part of the bonus content MAY be a port of the original Killer Instinct.

I think the game looks great. There's a few complainers going on about it not being dark enough (don't know why this matters so much to people...) or how Sabrewulf is too cartoonish, but I think the game is visually stunning so far. I don't really care too much about finishers as they were never a highlight of the series, always a bit half assed, cheesy, and not really entertaining. If I remember correctly, didn't Maya drop an elephant on her opponent? Heh... And Orchid's boobs, dear god, that was the worst of them all.

Two previous KI, well first KI at least, was much darker and moody. New KI doesn't look like moody, yet.

As for dynamic - it looks different from original KI (understandable), but visually it's too similar in speed and physics to SF4, which is not a good thing in my book.
Anyone else notice Jago apparently knows Shoryuken? I swore I heard him yell it too.

Fatalities? KI fatalities were known as Danger Moves

Looking him up, Jago was pretty much created as an "homage" to Ken and Ryu from Street Fighter complete with his own Shoryuken, except being a ninja with a sword who can telekinetically drop a car on you. The 90's were a crazy time, weren't they?

It could just be the audio. It is called Endokuken.
[edit]: Here is a somewhat in depth breakdown of the gameplay mechanics Killer Instinct Big Damage breakdown
Just found this: Jago 86-hit Ultra Combo. Around the 2:10 mark.

I think that what makes me nervous about this is sustainability. Let's say I pay $70 or $80 for the special edition season pass and they're concept is to release the content over time. Now, this unproven developer thought that the idea of releasing content for years after the initial offering would be great.

But what is the initial offering? For the special edition, is it ten characters and the original KI with more to follow at some undetermined time? What if its only five or six characters? What if this season pass winds up getting me four characters like MK and all of a sudden it's three or four months later and MS has decided that while years if content is a cute idea, that they have made all of the money that they're going to make and then that's it?

This is why I'm nervous. Because I don't know what my money is buying me, and I'm spending based on the promise that more content will follow and keep following. Will I have to buy multiple season passes when they decide that my initial payment has been fulfilled and further content will require more money? Do I then pay $5 for four characters like MK or what if, once I'm roped in, it's $3 or $4 per character and I want a complete game so...

I guess we'll know more as we get closer to the release, but given that its only five or six months away, is anyone really confident that we're going to get anything approaching a complete (20 characters plus to me) and balanced game in that time?

I like that the developers want to establish a dialog with interested parties and I love the theory that this won't be a complete retail product followed by post release paid unlocks from content already on the disc or even legit DLC released a week or two later. But is this the better solution? No retail copy of a game that people have wanted for well over a decade and the hope that your money will be spent on a game that eventually, over an unspecified period of time, for an unspecified amount of money, will grow roster-wise (and possibly mode-wise as well) in to completeness?

I dunno. It sounds, right now, like a gamble. One that most people would probably prefer not to take, especially on a title that fans have been waiting so long for. Well, here's hoping it pays off, and that we end up with a great game, great bonuses, and that I can get past the concept of a game being "full" or "complete" when it's only forms of existence are not on a retail disc.
