I think that what makes me nervous about this is sustainability. Let's say I pay $70 or $80 for the special edition season pass and they're concept is to release the content over time. Now, this unproven developer thought that the idea of releasing content for years after the initial offering would be great.
But what is the initial offering? For the special edition, is it ten characters and the original KI with more to follow at some undetermined time? What if its only five or six characters? What if this season pass winds up getting me four characters like MK and all of a sudden it's three or four months later and MS has decided that while years if content is a cute idea, that they have made all of the money that they're going to make and then that's it?
This is why I'm nervous. Because I don't know what my money is buying me, and I'm spending based on the promise that more content will follow and keep following. Will I have to buy multiple season passes when they decide that my initial payment has been fulfilled and further content will require more money? Do I then pay $5 for four characters like MK or what if, once I'm roped in, it's $3 or $4 per character and I want a complete game so...
I guess we'll know more as we get closer to the release, but given that its only five or six months away, is anyone really confident that we're going to get anything approaching a complete (20 characters plus to me) and balanced game in that time?
I like that the developers want to establish a dialog with interested parties and I love the theory that this won't be a complete retail product followed by post release paid unlocks from content already on the disc or even legit DLC released a week or two later. But is this the better solution? No retail copy of a game that people have wanted for well over a decade and the hope that your money will be spent on a game that eventually, over an unspecified period of time, for an unspecified amount of money, will grow roster-wise (and possibly mode-wise as well) in to completeness?
I dunno. It sounds, right now, like a gamble. One that most people would probably prefer not to take, especially on a title that fans have been waiting so long for. Well, here's hoping it pays off, and that we end up with a great game, great bonuses, and that I can get past the concept of a game being "full" or "complete" when it's only forms of existence are not on a retail disc.

They haven't announced anything about the pricing structure of full retail game or the special editions. Or exactly what all the content will be for the full version. I could have sworn the developer has said they don't plan on nickle and dime gamers though. If your so concern about how much content is actually going to be included in the full price of the game and about getting your money's worth with bonus DLC. You could always just download the free version of the game. Which will give you access to all game modes and Jago, and then just buy the content you want. if you don't feel like the full retail price is worth it, you could piece meal the game and just pay for the content you feel is worth it. Which would be less than the full retail cost.

If anyone wants to chat strictly KI head over to http://www.doublehelixgames.com/ the developers are asking questions from the community and are paying attention to the consensus of the fans.

Arcades have never been a big thing in Denmark, so I am glad that it will at least be on home console. However, it would be cool if DH made an arcade version.

I'm super excited for Black Orchid. I hope they announce her soon. She's one of the most iconic characters in the KI franchise.
- She single- handedly defeated Eyedol (her ending being somewhat the canon one)
- Had some of the best and longest combos
- Her STAGE MUSIC in KI and KI2 was awesome. It really gets you pumped and I would always choose those stages just to hear the music.
- I've been reading comments on youtube and most of them are, "Where's Orchid?" or "I can't wait for Orchid to be announced, she's gonna be bada**"
I'm hoping she's still one of the main characters who defeats the bad guys along with Jago, hopefully she's not reduced to sidekick status with Jago taking all the glory. He should be the sidekick, and her the main heroine.
We all know they're gonna have a huge debut trailer for her. They're just getting the irrelevant characters out of the way, so they can make room for her HUGE debut. These characters better bow down before her, in her debut trailer, while "Killer Feeling" (her stage music from KI) plays. Only a queen...

My complaints are as follows: the amount of time after confirmed hits is too long and used to be smoother, the animation is really odd to me, but maybe not everyone, physics (even down to floor impact) are far too similar to SFIV, announcer doesn't say "combo" after combo types, and the font is too similar to SFIV (why not update the metallic style of the original KI?).
I think I had more on my mind, but I'm also very tired.

Nah, let Capcom and Namco keep playing together.
I would much rather see KI vs MK happen!

Double Helix has announced that they will make new original characters for Killer Instinct, so the roster will indeed be expanded.
That said, I prefer quality characters rather than the number of characters. And what worries me more is that if MK vs SF should happen, it would be another Teen rated game with lack of blood and Fatalities, because Capcom wants that broader audience so they can sell more games. And we have already seen how wrong that can go with MK vs DCU... Sure, it sold alot, but that was because it got a broader audience, not because of the quality of the game.

Even if they make new characters, I guarantee they won't have over 30 characters. I'd like to for each franchise to be able to pick each character match-up as closely as possible, without having to have every character in the game because they have a small roster.
I really don't care if it's T or not. I got over that a long time ago. I play fighting games to fight, not pointless gimmicks like blood and gore.

There are many quality fighting games with less than 30 characters. Persona 4 Arena, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Soul Calibur, Injustice (though more has come in DLC), Mortal Kombat had 28 characters at release...
Games like Street Fighter and Tekken, though I like both, alot of the characters are alike and/or borrow moves from one another. Tekken Tag 2 did try and make the "clone" characters more unique, but alot of them had only minor changes done to them.
Not sure why you are so focused on quantity over quality...

MK has over 50 characters to choose from. As it stands, KI has 13 not including bosses. It's not about quantity, but SF has better match-ups and more to choose from.
Does Capcom not make quality fighting games?

Depends on who you are asking. The majority of the SF community find the newer games rather lacking in quality when it comes to gameplay, and many loathe SF vs Tekken.
And correction, there are 15 characters in the KI games. Indeed, it is not all that much compared to how many characters that appear in newer games, but you have to remember that games like Mortal Kombat and Tekken have several titles in their respectable series where they have introduced new characters with each new title.
And again, the quality of those are indeed debatable...

The irony is MK would more than likely go against KI. Just because they were both rated M. Which is stupid but what can you do...

From what I've seen some hate new games out of blind loyalty to past titles. Like: "if it doesn't play like games, that we played for the last 10 years - then it sucks". In general opinion of the fighting community should be taken with the grain of salt. A big grain.

Why does it even matter that KI only has 13 (EXCLUDING BOSSES) characters? MKvDC only used 10 of the MK characters excluding shao kahn.
A cross over would work just fine and I'm pretty sure this new KI will be expanding the roster anyway.

MKvsDC had a pitifully small roster and that was a big reason I hardly played it. SFxT had 19 from both games on the starting roster. Those are the kinds of numbers we should be seeing.
And since MK and SF have been around for so long, they could easily have a 40 character roster from the start.

I'd be down for an MK vs KI game.

If you've never heard of it or played it, then it is understandable that you don't understand the hype for it.
