Why does it even matter that KI only has 13 (EXCLUDING BOSSES) characters? MKvDC only used 10 of the MK characters excluding shao kahn.

A cross over would work just fine and I'm pretty sure this new KI will be expanding the roster anyway.

MKvsDC had a pitifully small roster and that was a big reason I hardly played it. SFxT had 19 from both games on the starting roster. Those are the kinds of numbers we should be seeing.

And since MK and SF have been around for so long, they could easily have a 40 character roster from the start.

Theoretically speaking if say this new KI added 5 new characters then the overall series would be up to 18, 20 when you include bosses. You're most likely going to see the MK1 and 2 cast used at most when it comes to a crossover maybe a MK3 character or 2 which adds up to the same amount maybe a little more.

Honestly though I applaud KI's small roster because there's not a single clone in the game, everyone fights differently not too many games did that back then so it's excusable to me. SFxT had 19 of each but how many characters were unique and lacked similarity with another fighter?

With MK recently diversifying their original cast I see a crossover with KI more feasible. Anytime I hear about a crossover with SF the SF side always have clones despite having so many potential unique characters and we all know a crossover always uses the most popular characters.

KI on the other hand the most you'll see in common with MK is that there's a fire based character and an ice based character, I'm more in favor of the full roster having characters unique to one another than having match ups or clones. Quantity is nice and all but having a bunch of characters who almost fight identically is just as bad as having a miniscule cast.

Who exactly are the clones in SF? Ryu, Ken, and Akuma?

They might have similar moves but they're not clones.

As well as Dan and Sean. I guess you could also kind of consider Sakura a clone as she does have her own version of the Hoduken, dragon punch and hurricane kick.

That's 6 characters with the same 3 base moves.

We can rule out Sean because let's face it, he wouldn't be in there. Sakura isn't a clone really, because her moves are a bit different. Dan isn't really a clone either, he's got altered versions of their moves.

don't forget sakura and yes they are clones, they play differently but they still have very similar aspects. Hadoukens, Shoryukens, Tatsumaki kick all pretty much have the same inputs, at least characters like Balrog and Dudley or Hugo and Gief have totally different moves and results despite similar styled play and movesets and it's not often you see these in the same game so I applaud SFxT that much but even then it's kind of the same demographic Balrgo, Steve, Dudley are all boxers, King, Marduk, Gief and Hugo are all grapplers. MK despite trying to give characters styles in the past don't have that type of thing going on for the most part.

MK9 while not too much in appearance pushed away from that sorta thing with the movesets and to an extent designs while KI has always had that diversity. Very few characters if any are actually limited to some sort of style of fighting. They all have their own thing going on in their movesets that differ further than just their signature moves to the point where you can't really label their styles of fighting.

I like casts like injustice, MK9, KI series for example where each and every character gives you a different experience. I don't get that vibe from SF games, characters are always some similar style or replacement from someone else. Capcom plays it too safe for my tastes in comparison to the MK series.

Don't get me wrong a SF MK crossover would still be cool I just prefer a KI crossover.

So because a character might share a move he/she is a clone? Better tell that to Ermac and Smoke. They both use Teleporting punches so they must be clones of Scorpion.

Or Noob and Reptile have variations of Sub-Zero's slide, so they must also be clones.

Just because they share a few moves doesn't make them clones. Similar, yes. But not exact duplicates. And really the only ones you'd see in a crossover would be Ryu, Ken, and Akuma.

Ermac and Smoke ARE clones of Scorpion! XD

But yeah, let's see...

Ryu and Ken have Sakura, Akuma, Dan, Sean, Allen and Kairi as clones, even Sagat to some extent.
Cammy has Juni and Juli.
Guile has Charlie and Remy.
Blanka and Dhalsim have Necro.
Gen has Yun and Yang.

That said, they are not 100% clones, but their movesets ARE build out from eachother instead of being original characters.

Jade was first a clone of Kitana, but was changed to be more original, yet still has a move from Cage. Smoke, Ermac and even Reptile were build from Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but have gotten more unique since. Nitara got a move from Tanya, Tanya got a move from Sindel, Jarek is a Kano clone, and Kira is a clone of Kano AND Sonya... etc etc etc...

There's a reason these games have so many characters - they keep copying and borrowing moves from already established characters.

LOL well that was a fail, the only ones I mentioned to be clones WERE the shotos though Jade raven did expand upon my point. There's too many characters built similar to one another in the SF series and that still dates to this very day, If Remy, Juli, Juni etc were to return it's not very likely capcom would change their movesets into something more original like NRS has done with MK9. Jade is also very right about the huge amount of characters that borrow, seeing MK9 with such a big roster yet the characters have become unique is what makes it awesome.

As cool as it would be I don't see the hype behind SF vs MK outside of the two games history, at least DC could've potentially had an injustice feel given they were to go back and revist that crossover. SF may have a lot of characters like MK but the style difference is a far bigger gap than even SF and Tekken, KI seems more akin to what NRS new direction of MK is going, not exact but definitely closer.

Anyway this is off topic but it did bring up an interesting point, Over at KI Online it's said it's confirmed there would be 30-50 characters in KI I actually hope it's nowhere near that amount, that's 15 new characters minimum, I think 20 maybe 24 excluding bosses at the most would be fine for this new KI, they seem pretty dedicated to making the characters unique I rather not ruin that ultimately by trying to rush such a huge number of characters into the game. especially considering half of that would be newbie characters.

Let's not forget Reptile and Noob, if we're talking about characters who started as Scorpion clones. Thankfully none of them still have that status, whereas in SF it remains.

double helix has a poll on their facebook as far as characters go. I don't think they need one it's obvious they should bring all of the old characters back imo, they should focus more on what the new characters should be like if there are any.

Yup, no more 24-hr check in, DRM crap they originally had planned.

I am now happy to say that I'll be a proud future owner of Killer Instinct.

Oh, by the way, I can't remember if this has been mentioned in this thread before, but at E3 the developers said that Glacius would be seen fully playable at EVO, and possibly some more characters will be shown there as well. ^^

well I remember he only said there would be "a character reveal" along with glacius being playable, I hope you're right though I'd love to see more than just one reveal. Fingers crossed it'll be cinder but I imagine Fulgore is the biggest possibility, out of the three announced (fulgore, cinder, spinal) he's the most iconic.

I'm hoping this means they'll definitely bring back Maya and Kim Wu. More female characters cannot mean 'more female characters except Kim and Maya', heh.....
