Fair enough, there are significant hardware limitations between the current gen and what's possible on PC now, but as far as the evolution of graphics goes, we're no longer at a point where every new console is an amazing leap like it was going from 8 bit to 16 bit or from there to the Playstation, et cetera. A PS3/360 game can have cutscenes that look like the CGI in a major motion picture. Where do you go from there?
How many people can actually SEE a difference in the level of detail on character models and the like, and how much of this generation is going to be spent with gamers complaining that something "looks" like a previous gen game, simply because the level of detail we've achieved with CGI is currently to a point where the only visual differences one is going to notice are minor effects and polishing?

I think consoles will stop when developers are capable or getting graphics on par with animated movies, like Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within, running in real time.
There has been talk that consoles as a whole may be coming to an end. Once consoles are full capable of giving us the same type of graphics and as animated movies there won't be a need for any more console generations. There has been talk that not this upcoming Xbox One/PS4 generation, but possible the following generation of consoles may be the last.
With this upcoming console generation of the Xbox One & PS4, Sony showed at its press briefing with The Dark Sorcerer, that facial expressions can be on par with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, so I don't think that claim is too far fetched.

I thought that I read somewhere on a KI forum (at Double Helix's site perhaps?) that they'll have Glacius playable at EVO and that they'll debut a new character and give some more info on the game.
Has anyone else seen this? I wish I had a link, but I think that it was from a community manager or mod or something along those lines. Either way, I'm pretty pumped.
After watching several of those Max videos that some of you awesome people have linked to, I'm definitely excited for this game. Maybe "guarded optimism" is a more accurate phrase, but definitely less guarded than before. Oh hey, according to Maximilian, KI has a half hour presentation at EVO on Sunday at 4pm. Nice!!

Yeah they announced it at e3, that Glacius would be playable and that they would unveil a new character at EVO. I think someone posted a few pages back, a link to a number of confirmed characters that are actually returning.
Also this was posted over at shoryuken:

Ah, my bad! I thought that I read every page, but I guess that was a while ago. Sorry for posting old news!
Still kinda curious as to who they might reveal. My guess is any of Orchid, Spinal or Fulgore, but it'd be nice to see them go off the board and give us a brand new character, though I'll likely be fine with whatever they show.

Great video. I like that they seem to have the pulse of the fanbase and that they realize and understand why people are nervous and maybe less than confident that they can actually pull this off well.
Hopefully the transition from crappy license games with short development cycles to a proven entity and (hopefully?) more time will let them realize their potential.
Personally, I think that the game looks great so far. It might not be a gigantic leap forward based on what we've seen in videos, but the background, particle effects, lighting and little details look great. Hopefully it gets even better by the time it comes out.

Agreed. The team seems very humbled and realize that not only there is a healthy dose of skepticism, but that considering the fact that the series has been dormant for so long, that they don't have the definitive say as to what makes KI, KI. That they are taking in and lessening to feedback from the community.
From the interview, it sounds like No Mercys are back in the game, and that new lab state looks awesome.

Hope new characters show up.
A vampire, a mutated scientist, a capoeira fighter and a CEO of Ultratech.

Nitara always reminded me of KI for some reason, so I welcome a vampire. Evo's tomorrow I'm losing my mind! :D

I hang out on the Double Helix forum... and DAMN! Some of the people there are really bitchy. XD
Remember how some of the fans were about the storyline when the new Mortal Kombat came out? Or remember how some freaked out when Freddy Krueger was announced (namely myself as well)?
That's how some of the people on there react on the graphics. Last night it went as far as someone spamming porn of a woman sucking dick as a response to the more postitive and supportive members on the forum.
If you guys have some constructive feedback you wanna give Double Helix, be sure to post it, but then get the hell out of there as fast as you can, because you do not wish to stay on that forum for long. XD
I'll stay there though and suffer through it, so I can post news about the game on here. ^^

Daaaang, wow. Really like what I saw from Glacius in that video. It'd be nice if his puddle punch knocked people further in to the air, and I hope you can temporarily go into puddle like in the past, but both he and his level looked sick. Very pleased.
I'm still a little worried about Sabrewulf, as I still have yet to see a whole lot of moves from him. I have yet to see his fire bats, his cartwheel, his running uppercut, his backflip etc.
I'm not saying that all of these characters have to have all of their old moves, but I keep seeing Savrewulf doing a lot of scratches, that slash with the green wave around it and not much else. I think I saw his spinning claw move, but that's about it. Still hoping to see more, and it's entirely possible I've just missed some stuff.
Yeah... That Double Helix board... Yikes. I signed up, but have yet to post anything. Lots of anger. J don't quite see how constant brain barfing helps anything. If you don't like something, talk about what you'd like to see (beyond the usual "durr I want this to be more like KI" which seems to be a popular refrain. A community is helpful when it's giving devs constructive criticism not a constant stream if mouth farts.
After a while, I worry that the devs will just stop listening and the constructive people will get brushed aside with the a-holes. Hopefully they can get the board under control a little.

From a gameplay standpoint, KI3 looks unbelievably sick. Thank God my city has a large fighting game community and I won't have to buy an Xbox to play/practice the game.
Glacius got more detail, but they pumped him full of alien stereotypes. He's got the longer neck, the bug-like face, and that walk that makes me think of "the greys." I don't have a problem with change on principle, but I hate the direction they took this character. Lucca was saying on EventHubs that all the KI characters were bland anyway, and for a lot of characters, maybe he's right. For the concept however, Glacius' design worked well. Update, yes. Overhaul, no.
Granted, it's not all bad. The ice effects look good, and at the end of the day, I'm still maining him. Nothing was really going to change that.

Mind giving us your impressions of the game so far? The most any of us have seen is just gameplay footage or MaxiMillion's explanation of the game.

It was always expected. Keep in mind, these are internet morons who are still stuck in the 90s mindset.
This is like expecting Scorpion to still look like a shirt ninja.

I honestly dunno where to begin. The game is just awesome! This IS Killer Instinct, it's not just one of those reboots that's just okay or cool for a reboot. I can without a doubt say that if I get an XBone it's because of this game.
As far as the redesigns go I like Jago's a lot, he really fits his description as monk and even though some things could be better I'm glad they took this direction with him. Sabrewulf looks far different than before but he's still beastly, I'd dare say even more so than before. My only issue with his new design is that it feels kind of bland, something like the middle patch he had before for example would help this a bit. Glacius what can I say the design is badass, on one hand I can say that this isn't exactly a glacius type design but knowing the KI history Glacius has pretty much been two different characters between the games both with totally different looks and I wouldn't be surprised if they kept that tradition going.
So far I'll probably say rushdown is more my style. I really couldn't get into Jago or Glacius.
