"I doubt it ever will" coming straight from the horse's mouth. Pretty damning to me, but I guess you don't see it that way. I'd be willing to bet that a large majority of the other Rare employees feel the same way.

Then again, far be it from this community to listen to different viewpoints, let alone reason.

I get what you are trying to say. The game has little to no chance to be revived. Alright... and so what? Does that mean we can't chat about it? Does that mean we can't hope and dream? Does that mean you have to ruin the mood in here?

Chat about it all you want, dreaming is probably a waste of time, and excuse me for bestowing this thread with reality.

And now back to your regularly scheduled banter.

lol That's funny.

Hopefully a KI character gets added to the roster of SSB4. It is a Nintendo series, and Super Smash Bros. has always been the ultimate promoter.

Alright, enough is enough. All three of you need to take chill pills and relax. Further name calling and getting off topic will receive some consequences.

Ignoring moseph and moving on with this thread...

I still think NRS could do a good job with the KI series. But how would YOU guys want it to be like?

My opinion:
- I would want it to be 2.5D, 3D graphics with 2D gameplay, just like the new MK.
- It would focus on its combo system, like its predecessors, combining special moves together in strings, some special moves can be used to start combos, some can be used to string the combo along and some special moves are used as combo finishers.
- There will be finishers, like fatalities. One that can be used just like a fatality at the end of the fight, a finisher that can be used to finish off a combo, a super extra long brutal combo finisher (ULTRA COMBO!) and so on and so forth.
- Beautiful stages with Stage Finishers and maybe multi-platform stages as well.
- A storyline that fits with the rest of the canon story.
- A complete and interesting roster with varied characters (though they already have that).
- Several interesting modes.
- NO Tag Team combat!

I am personally kinda bored to see all the games with tag team combat that's out there and I have never seen it as something fitting Killer Instinct.

Anyone?

I'm now inspired to hunt out the SNES and give the old game a whirl, while considering J-R's new directions for a possible sequel, even a sequel of the imagination.

No, MicroSoft owns KI, not Nintendo. And Since MS wants Rare to make kid friendly kinect games to expand their younger audience, they've continually squashed any attempt at making a KI, Perfect Dark, or Conker's game.

Microsoft is slowly, but steadily becoming the new Nintendo, making kiddy stuff instead of serious stuff that people actually want.

Damn, I was under the belief that even though Microsoft bought it, it was still under Nintendo.

What the hell was I thinking?

Time for an alternative!

Actually MS TRIED to renew their license on KI, but they where actually rejected because it conflicts with a tv show called Killer Instinct.

Definitely not.

...BUT.........

NRS should throw a hint to the rest of the companies out there by including a KI character (if and only if) they plan on doing more guest characters in MK10. Kinda like testing the waters.

Orchid as guest character for the next MK... The only guest character I would ever want in an MK game. A dream come true, actually.

So...what does this actually legally mean as far as "who holds the Killer Instinct license"? Is it just...public domain right now? Anybody can use KI characters if they want?
Or is it just about the title, like how Marvel owns "Captain Marvel", but DC can still call Billy Batson that if they want INSIDE a book, as long as they don't put that name on the cover or use it for advertising, which is why they always call him "Shazam" instead?
Like, does Rare still own Jago, Orchid, etc. separately?

If Mortal Kombat tries to do a crossover with Killer Instinct, will Netherrealm Studios buy the franchise for a reboot?

Liu Kang/Kung Lao vs Jago
Kitana/Jade vs Orchid
Sub-Zero vs Glacius
Scorpion vs Cinder
Riptor vs Reptile
Raiden vs Chief Thunder
Jax vs TJ Combo
Nightwolf vs Saberwulf
Cyrax/Sektor vs Fulgore
______ vs Tusk
______ vs Maya
______ vs Kim Wu
______ vs Spinal
______ vs Eyedol
______ vs Gargos

I'd like an answer to this question as well, as I am curious. I'd love to see Jago, Fulgore, Glacius, and Cinder back in action. grin
EDIT: Microsoft has 6 months to respond as of December to do something about it.

It just mean that if they where to release a game, or any media for that matter (comic, cartoon show, action figures, etc) under the title Killer Instinct, they could possibly be sued by the the current license holder of the term "Killer Instinct" as infringing on their name and franchise. Sort of like the whole deal between the World Wrestling Federation (WWF/WWE) and World Wild Life Foundation years ago.

They still own the rights to the characters and games. It has more to do with labeling and marketing and not confusing the two franchises.

They could literally call it KI3 and no one would be confused. Microsoft has no excuse.

KI3 on the box, Killer Instinct (via announcer voice) in-game. Bam! Solution.

MS could take either of these actions or they could even seek out the license holder of "Killer Instinct" to work out some kind of agreement for fair use. If they feel there is little chance the two franchises could be mixed up or mistaken for each other.

Apple recently did something similar with a Swiss company who owns the right to the new Apple Clock design in the latest version of iOS. No money was paid from what I understand, but it was more of a fair use agreement that Apple wasn't infringing on the Swiss companies rights and could use the design.

I would assume MS would try to do something similar before releasing a new KI game rather than changing the name around or even risk getting sued. Or MS could even just try and buy the rights to Killer Instinct if they could. I believe the show was canceled.
