Surely it's been a while? Would be nice to see more fakes dotted around.

Maybe you guys can not be so harsh on people's fakes when ever they mess up some invisible brush stroke. Should try encouraging people to strive for better quality, not blow flames up their ass when they mess up.

It's not that easy when like five or six "decent" ones actually come here regularly. Not to sound harsh but off the top of my head I can't think of any more than that

Plus DCU doesn't offer much inspiration

As much as I hate to say it, traditional fakes are dying out.. There's not a lot of interest, there's too large of a learning curve, not enough dedication, and MKvsDCU.

Oh by all means, keep the cry baby noobs out of the forum.

If there's going to be a contest, it'd have to be AFTER next week because my GF is visiting that week and I'll definitely be far far far far away from my computer.

That Grote dude has a point though. If people don't say "This is so shitty" to others fakes maybe, just maybe more fakes will get posted and the people who's fakes were "so shitty" can get better.

But of course the guy who says it sucks catches all the fucking heat. But at least when I (and other harsh criticizers) say they think it's shitty, we gave them damn good reasons as to why they were SHIT. We didn't go around saying it just so we can act like "internet tough guys" (thanks subfrost) or to boost our own ego. We said it because it was true and they needed to hear it instead of all the lies about how "fabulous they are." If these kids realized that the internet isn't to be taken so damn seriously, maybe harsh critiques wouldn't ruin their day so much.

I thought for sure MKRocket was going to hold a contest for the summer, what happen to that? I wouldn't mind hosting another contest again if MKRocket doesn't mind moderating it again.

Honestly, even though I like looking at fakes, I surely won't be making one anytime soon. I haven't touch any art program for years and I sur don't have any inspiration.

Some may not want to hear it but all that it will take is less excuses.

Seriously, "more/less people need to criticize", "MK vs DC", none of that is the real reason why people aren't making fakes, maybe fakes don't matter to some people anyore or we become more busy in our lives and so fakes take a backburner but if anyone really truly wanted to make a fake they'd find time and stop blaming everyone else.

If anyone really needs inspiration they could play the old games or look at old fakes, or look at just the new MK side of things that's coming out in MK vs DC, or look at the couple of fakes/animations/comics/drawings that people are still coming out with and use that as inspiration to make a fake and build off of that instead of doing nothing or complaining.

If you can get one together, I don't mind if you hold it yourself. I'm much too busy anymore...

And to ]{, I can honestly say the MK vs DCU killed/substantially lessened my inspiration and motivation for making fakes. I wanted to be creative with character designs and replicate NEW, darker, characters, not a bunch of people wearing spandex and bright colours.

I actually have an idea for a fake contest.

AMALGAM
a few years back Marvel and DC launched Amalgam comics, which fused together characters to create one. ie Wolverine + Batman = Dark Claw Superman + Cap Amerca = Super Soldier.

So if we were to do this with MK and DC, we could come up with some kind of fake contest involving one composite hero and one composite villain fighting each other, also attributing to the Amalgam boss of MK vs DC. We could modify it but this is my premise, tell me what you think.

I'm not saying we should lie and tell them their fakes are good when they're not. I'm just saying try constructive criticism before "That fucking sucks, n00b 0/10".

I don't know what forum you've been going to, but here there's always at least a couple of people with long, constructive criticism. And n00b isn't even used anymore at all, I don't think.

I'm kinda missing out on some of the fakes as well . All I see is sketches of stuff now these days and I'm not really into those . If I can gather up a good idea , I may make a fake again soon enough ! K1LLKANO would be the perfect comeback of fakes , but hes sticking with the Eye Poker series ( Guessing that he somewhat hates MK VS DC . )

lol, no I don't hate it. I'm just having a lot of fun with it. It threw me off at first, but the more I see, the more I like.

Soon enough, I'll get back to my roots (I have a fake I've started, but yet to finish actually and a few sprite edits I'm doing for someone else) my focus is just on whats current I guess.

But that's the problem, "at least a couple", most of the time it is a couple, not many still do anymore. well, the number of flamers outweighs the constructive criticisms.

Eeh, weeell. I recognize that you have a good point. And even though I'm not renowned for making fakes at all, I have to say that the announcement of MKvsDC did stifle my artistic ambitions for a little while there.

I mean, afterall, we're dealing with making pure imagination come to fruition on a virtual pallet. It's all kinda based on a sort of cognition, inspiration, and intuition. All "dreamy" stuff.

One really bad idea is all it takes. And in any art form, when something like that happens, you gotta get away from the bad idea, scrap it, or just basically forget about the whole concept from the root up.

Also, MKO is where I started making virtual art in the first place. So, you take what looks, and feels good about making MK stuff, away from MK, and the motivation to create from that basic starting point kinda kills over.....or at least dies off a bit.

I'm still not back into the swing of things, but school has me creating some different things that gives me creative license. That, and I'm finally digging into PsCs2-3 So there's at least something "new" in it for me. Some of these guys know Ps, Paint, Gimp, or whatever else really well already so....eh. I guess, just consider the "roof" in a situation like this from their perspective. They can probably do anything with the talents that are there.....there's just no basis to start because the basis of creation has become a "negative".

But as you can see in my link there, "my favorite game" plays a basic part in how I am able to learn new things about what I'm doing, and where I push myself to go creatively. Cuz MK in its essence is a good, fruitful "idea" to start from.

I have to say that everyone out there that says that MK Vs DC killed their inspiration needs to get more creative and think outside the box. Midway's not making games to be works of art, so don't base your images on them. Last time I checked, people made fakes to represent their idealized versions of the games they loved, and if you don't like MK Vs DC, that's fine, because there are still 9 other MK games to base fakes on. Don't let one taint your own memories of MK.
If there's anything I've learnt, it's that art comes from within, and it's completely based on your idealized image of what you're trying to create. If you spend all your time letting one game ruin this image, then of course you're going to feel terrible and not want to make anything, but if you go back and remember why you fell in love with the series in the first place and wanted to make fakes for it, then you'll get your inspiration.
All my fan fictions are based on my own image of what MK6 should've been like, and I haven't let MKD, MKA, or MK Vs DC change what I planned on writing, or how I write, so I don't think that anyone else should let the games they don't like influence them either. You can still make up a cool Fatality for Sub-Zero without having to put the Riddler in the picture; you can still show Johnny Cage ripping off a guys nuts without putting Gotham City as a background; you can still have Jade throw a boomerang at her opponent to lop off an arm instead of a Bat-a-rang.
All you need is your own motivation; don't let Midway dictate what and how your fakes should look and how creative they should be. When it comes to art, you are your own motivation and your own hindrance.

What Jerrod said, Btw whyd you change your icon? You've had that since I joined here years ago. Fakes aren't supposed to look like the games, it's what YOU want them to look like.

ON a different note, no one liked my idea of an Aalgam contest? Ah well.

I really think we must be from different dimensions because I don't see all that much flaming. Perhaps we have different definitions of flaming.
And a couple of informative long posts is all anyone needs. I don't see your point? Does a guy really need like ten people explaining every flaw in detail?

I'll start making fakes and animations again when I start seeing some halfway decent competition around here. This is what I do when I come to this forum now....
