Mortal Kombat is officially celebrating its 30th Anniversary and one of the legendary fighters from that first game is set to feature in an all new adventure. The fourth Mortal Kombat Legends animated movie has officially been announced during a live panel for Snow Blind! Read on for details:

As reported by IGN and publicist Gary Miereanu [below], series producer Rick Morales made the big announcement at New York Comic-Con, confirming the return of Joel McHale as the voice of action moviestar turned Special Forces hero: Johnny Cage!

The role was originated by Daniel Pesina in digitzed sprites for the 1992 arcade classic, with McHale imbuing the most recent animated incarnation with rich smarm, appearing as a tournament attendee in Scorpion's Revenge, and maturing soldier of Battle of the Realms. Johnny Cage was a noted absence in the 2021 live-action film, but is expected to play a major role in a sequel.

Although no plot details were revealed, he will no doubt take an even bigger feature role in 2023's Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match. The title suggests a continued focus on individual characters and original stories. Snow Blind leaves established canon behind for a tale of a young Kenshi opposing the conquest of Earthrealm by future King Kano and his Black Dragon clan.
