Thought this would be an interesting topic of discussion...
What are the moments that define characters for you? What are the moments where you can say "That is what this character is all about."

For me...

Kitana- Turning against Shao Kahn (revealed in her MK2 ending)
Here's the thing with Kitana...she's raised since her infancy to believe Shao Kahn is her real father and spends most of her life loyally serving him as his personal assassin. This is the only life she's ever known. Yet when she learns the truth about her past, she chooses to abandon all that and vows to destroy Kahn and restore Edenia...essentially joining the losing side in Outworld. This to me is everything Kitana is all about. She discovers that her life, everything she's ever believed in and fought for was a lie and chooses to fight to undo it when she could have just as easily ignored it and went on like nothing happened.

Quan Chi- Hiring Scorpion to steal the Map of the Elements (Mythologies)
This was tough because Quan Chi has some good moments. I decided on this one, because I think this one simple act illustrates how much impact Quan Chi has had, and sets him up as a master manipulator and monstrous prick. He hires Scorpion to steal the Map...already knowing he would fight Sub-Zero, lose, and die. And think of the fallout of this: this essentially created Scorpion, began the Scorpion/Sub-Zero feud, and eventually led to Sub-Zero turning into Noob Saibot. All because of Quan Chi.

Scorpion- Refusing to serve Shao Kahn (UMK3 ending)
THIS is Scorpion. Not the jackass seen in Shaolin Monks. Not the schmuck in Armageddon. THIS is how Scorpion should be. Let me set this up: Scorpion's escaped the Netherealm by a fluck and as long as the Outworld portal is open, he can't be summoned back and therefore, is free to roam Earth. Shao Kahn offers Scorpion a place in his army...which benefits Scorpions because...as stated...as long as Outworld & Earth are merged, he can't get pulled back into the Netherealm. And yet, when he learns the younger Sub-Zero, whom he vowed to protect is among the Earth's warriors Kahn wants dead...Scorpion turns him down and helps the Earth fighters. Win or lose, he would end up back in the Netherealm, but he fought anyway.

Sektor- Slaughtering the old Lin Kuei (MK:TE)
In MK3 and Gold it had been established that Sektor may have been a little fanatical about his loyalty to the Lin Kuei. Then at some point after MK Gold he malfunctions and takes it upon himself to deem the human masters of the Lin Kuei are no longer fit to run the clan and proceeds to slaughter every last remaining member. This to me is the essence of Sektor: in his mind, normal humans are inferior and unfit creatures who must be converted to cyborgs...or exterminated.

Mileena- Allowing Kitana to escape Shinnok's dungeon (MK Gold)
We all know Mileena hates Kitana more than anything and wants to kill her. We've known that since the beginning. But in MK Gold, we see for Mileena, it's not so simple as merely wanting Kitana dead. Here's the situation: Shinnok's invaded Edenian and taken Kitana prisoner. She locked up in the dungeons and can't get out. If all Mileena wanted was just Kitana dead, she could've just snuck into the cell and killed her. But no. Mileena instead secretly allows Kitana to escape and join with the Earth fighters....so she can get a fair fight and defeat/kill Kitana in battle. Mileena doesn't just want Kitana dead...she needs to prove she's better than Kitana. And she does this even though I doubt Shinnok would've been very happy about it.

Kung Lao- Refusing to fight in Mortal Kombat (MK2)
Here's Kung Lao, the last decendant of the Great Kung Lao who was defeated and killed by Goro 500 years ago. It's the final MK tournament and Earth's last chance at defending itself from Outworld. You would think Kung Lao would be the chosen one to fight in this tournament and save the world. But he doens't....Liu Kang does. And according to Liu Kang in the official MK2 comic, Kung Lao didn't just not fight he "left when they needed him most." It was either this or Kung Lao letting people think he was dead after MK3...but I think this establishes more Kung Lao's reluctance and lack of interest in being the chosen hero everyone expects him to be.

Reptile- If he only knew (MK2 ending)
The thing that always struck me about Reptile is how...not even just his MK2 ending, but his MK3 ending too...if he only knew Shao Kahn had enslaved and destroyed his race, he would've turned against him. And yet, for whatever reason, this revelation always eluded him until it was too late.

That's all for now. I'll add some more later.
Thoughts or opinions?
Goro's Alignment and Kung Lao Avenged - MK Gold

In Kung Lao's MK Gold ending we learn that Goro is aligning himself with Kitana. The peace meeting is interrupted by Kung Lao as he uses his hat to place a gash in Goro's chest. Kung Lao explains that he has now avenged his ancestor and will no long assault Goro, and Goro accepts Kung Lao's assault as honorable vengeance.

Possibly not character defining for Kung Lao, but we learn that Goro is truly a warrior of honor and wishes for peace rather than chaos.

I would say mine is Ermac and Fujin.

Ermac:-His MK:D bio reveals that he is finally free to make his own choices, and not fight for evil or tyranny anymore. He was controlled by Shao Kahn to do bad things.Things he does not approve of once he was released from Kahn's control.

This to me is when we found out more about this awesome character and what his true destiny is about, which is good and not evil.

Fujin:I would say in MK:A bio as far as his true destiny which is to protect earthrealm and help his friends such as Raiden for example return back to reality. In MK:A we learn that his role is much more important then before where he was just "The god of wind" he's that and much more now.I always knew he was good, we learned this in MK4/MK:G.

BTW, to Xiahou.I think you mean when Quan-Chi used Sub-Zero to steal the map of elements from Scorpion's temple. You said Quan-Chi hired Scorpion to steal the map of elements.

No, in Mythologies Quan Chi hired Sub-Zero to steal the Map of the Elements from the Shaolin Temple. He also hired Scorpion to steal it as a "back-up." When Sub-Zero gets back to the Lin Kuei he yells at Quan Chi for doing that, but Quan Chi says he knew Sub-Zero was going to win anyway.
And a few more...
Noob Saibot/older Sub-Zero- Ignoring Raiden's warning (Mythologies)
At the end of Mythologies, Quan Chi offers Sub-Zero a place in the Brotherhood of the Shadow, saying his soul is tainted with evil. Sub-Zero refuses this offer and goes on to defeat Quan Chi and later Shinnok. When he gets out of the Netherealm, he asks Raiden if Quan Chi was telling the truth. Raiden tells him Quan Chi was right, but that only Sub-Zero can do something about it. Right after this, we see Sub-Zero back at the Lin Kuei, pledging his loyalty. This then leads to his entering the Mortal Kombat tournament...which then leads to his death...which leads to him becoming Noob Saibot, Quan Chi & Shinnok's dutiful slave. Also consider his MK1 ending which shows...had he survived MK1...he would've retired from the Lin Kuei. I'm sure there are lots of ways one could define Noob Saibot, the older Sub-Zero, but this to me stands out the most.
Tanya- Screwing over Edenia (MK4)
Well, this is an easy one...but this to me shows what makes Tanya stand out amongst the other backstabbing characters. Edenia's been freed from Shao Kahn and being restored to its former beauty. Tanya is the daughter of the Edenian ambassador...a fairly cushy job, I imagine. One that guarantees Tanya an easy, comfortable lifestyle. And in spite of all this, she deliberately sells out her entire realm and even her own father by allowing Shinnok and his crew to invade and conquer the realm. And judging by the way she acted in her ending...she seemed to enjoy herself, too. And as far as we know, there is no terrible tragedy motivating Tanya...unlike say Mileena or Reptile. She wasn't born into darkness like say Shang Tsung or Quan Chi. She's just a nasty, selfish bitch for her own ambition and amusement.

we see how evil quan chi really is in shinnok's ending from mk4/gold,, when shinnok tells quan chi he will spare his life for serving him then quan chi gets furious and has his back up plan that he had set up many years b4 when he made a duplicate of shinnoks amulet and kept the real one.

Ohh, yeah I know all that.I thought you were referring to mission part of the game in the beginning concerning sub-zero's part in the temple. The first mission.

I would say another one would be Cyrax:Once he was wanted Jax and Sonya of the special forces to continue with the program in order to find his soul, since he knew deep down he wasn't evil like the old Lin Kuei was(before Sub-Zero took over)

Cyrax IMO since he's one of my favorite characters has never really been taken seriously before that point in time in the MK universe where his story went deeper then just a killer cyborg built by the lin kuei to track sub-zero down like smoke and sektor(before their stories changed also)

So to me, Mk4/MK:G concerning Cyrax's storyline really was the defening moment where his destiny was to me.

I love that game.

Shinnok- when he became a fallen elder god. I thought that was one of the most interesting parts of his story, and i believe i'm not the only one.

Scorpion- when he made a rivalry with Quan Chi, as this started a ongoing hatred towrads him; its still going on today. This part of his story defined him because he now knows for certain who killed his family.

Noob Saibot- when he became ," Noob Saibot." This was a huge shock as there was now two Sub-zeros! This defined him because now he was his own person, not just a second Sub-zero.

Reptile- when he realized Shao Kahn was his enemy, as this unfortuantely came too late. This defined him because he found out who destoryed his race, and then knew who to exact revenge upon.

Ermac- when he made a alliance with Liu Kang, as now you knew for sure he was good. This also defined him because now someone could help him with his wants, and vice versa.

Raiden- when he basically became evil in MKD. I loved this part of his storyline, as his old storyline was getting dull. This defined him because now he's tired of helping the good guys.

there's more i could say, but that's enough for now.smile

Noob Saibot was the first Sub-Zero, and we were made well aware that the Subby in MK II was a different Sub-Zero than the one in MK II. The MK team also made a big effort to show us that the brothers were nothing alike way before the "Classic Sub-Zero is Saibot" shocker.

-Liu Kang- Declining Kitana’s offer to become King of Edenia (MK4)
After saving the whole realm of Earth from numerous invasions, Liu Kang finally has the chance to be at peace by Kitana’s side. Other chosen warriors could have taken his place as champion, but he knew he wasn’t finished, not yet.

-Shao Kahn- Poisoning Onaga (Pre MK1)
The is a taste of what is to follow, he’ll do whatever it takes to satisfy his hunger for power.

-Scorpion- Unbreakable honor (UMK3)
You nailed it XD. What I’ve always liked about Scorpion was even though he is a hell spawned specter, deep down he had an undying code of honor. The recent versions (MKA and Shaolin Monks) deserve to stay in hell.

-Sub-Zero (younger)- Not giving up on an old friend (MK3)
In the midst of the pure chaos that was happening during Shao Kahn’s invasion of Earth, Sub-Zero still believed Smoke could in someway be helped, giving him distinct differences from his ruthless brother. It seems it’s happening all over again in MKA, only this time his brother is Sub-Zero’s main target.

-Kano- Watching Shao Kahn’s Murder (MKDA)
He had a chance to save his leader of whom he pledged allegiance to, yet he stood by and watched him “die” like the coward that he is. Even though Shao Kahn is evil, it would have shown some decency within Kano if he risked his life to save Shao Kahn. What really makes Kano treacherous is shortly after Shao Kahn’s “death”, he pledges his allegiance to the Deadly Alliance without a second thought.

Raiden(Mk1-T Gameplay...Anything In-Game really)
These images used to drive me nuts when I was younger....I really could feel that Raiden was this beyond ancient old God. Very secret, mystical almost, but very dangerous and powerful. They definatly defined Raiden for me. Aheh, then you get older and find out he was played by a guy named Carlos Pesina and had the classic "New York" accent. Lol! Oh, and Mr. Pesina, I still got that Hat even today. Lol! It's in my closet put up. Ha!

Shang Tsung vs Master Bo Rai Cho(Mk Conquest T.v. Series)

Cho kicks the crap out of Tsung!! I was bursting through that whole episode. I know it's non-cannon, but the portrails of those two characters, buy those actors was damn near perfect in my mind. It was like the producers read my thoughts from years past and put it on screen for me to realize.

That episode gave a depth to Bo Rai Cho I was waiting for years to see. "That's the way he was supposed to be." Bravo man, Bravo....

Raiden vs Shang Tsung vs Quan Chi(MkDeception Opening FmV)

That whole fight sequence is still watchable over and over. The thing that really makes it a defining moment for me is that--they were all portryed correctly for once!! Gott-Damnit Finally!! You know, show me what would happen if my favorite character(A God mind you), Battled to crazy powerful sorcerers...and then they turn on each-other.....AND then all work together against a common enemy. All petty shit aside.

Although I believe Raiden should've run circles around those two(lol), I was still satisfied with the vid as a whole.

Robin Shou as Liu Kang//Trevor Goddard as Kano//

The best you could get and I agree. Shao Kahn(just the way he looked though, not so much his acting skills...) and Jonny Cage were perfect too, just can't remember the actors names right now......

For me, it's Jade:
See her UMK3 Bio.
She had 2 choices, bringing back Kitana to Shao Kahn or helping her best friend. She was associated with Reptile for this mission but she thwarted his actions. In doing so, queen Sindel also turned on Shao Kahn. Since that moment, she became good and the Edenian team was created. She also did not hesitate to attack Kitana when she was under Onaga's spell.

Reptile's complete transformation
I thought Reptile was okay back when he had that kool MK3 suit but never thought much of him. Then I hated him in MK4 when he had that stupid... this tongue look. Seeing him return in Deadly Alliance as something likeable renewed and then super-accelerated any opinions I had of him. Not only did his new look persuade me into liking him though, his story really got to me. I felt very sorry for him the way that he saw Shao Kahn as his master and obeyed him unquestioningly out of some sort of blind love like a dog to its owner. Granted, this was before I knew that Reptile only joined Shao Kahn because he was saner at one point in time and thought Kahn could help him find his race, the way he suffered in DA when he saw he didn't show up in time to help his master fight the Deadly Alliance really got to me. Then, he goes looking for the only other person that he felt he had any loyalty to: Nitara. This shows that Reptile (In his debilitated DA mindset...), is a sad creature that I think anyone could feel sympathetic for. I don't like how in Shaolin Monks and Armageddon he was portrayed as mentally stable and thusly, less loyal to Shao Kahn and more concerned for his race.

Scorpion's post Sub-Zero life
Say what you will, I don't think Scorpion has any code of ethics or cares for anyone but himself and his clan. I liked how Midway actually took a chance by ending the Sub-Zero/Scorpion fued and changing his target to Quan Chi. Then, he got another new calling in Deception as the Champion of th Elder Gods. Some might say that Scorpion really is an honorable person...I say he's a pissed off ass-kicker who doesn't start anything but will rip your spine out and stab you thorugh the brain with it if you mess with him; a total badass. I also liked how in Deception, he got his first ever happy ending, his years of being screwed over were finally over...or so he thought. I thought the whole "The Elder Gods screwed with me so now I'm pissed" angle was interesting and true to Scorpion nature. Scorpion, as I said, won't necessarily help an old lady cross the street but he won't run up to her and rip her head off for no reason. He only fights those who start it and all he really wants is revenge for his fallen clan (As he was pretty much forced to being a specter and all from MK1 up to MKDA.) or his family back (MKD and beyond.) by whatever means he can get them. Is that really so bad?

Sub-Zero 2: Icy Bugaloo
When I first saw him in the second movie, I didn't like the second Sub-Zero as I was still stupid at the time and only thought someone was as cool as they looked. However, now I have a new-found appreciation for the Lin Kuei Grandmaster as I now know what he's about. I love his nobility and the fact that he's a force for good, not evil or greed. I like how even during MK3's chaos he was still focused on getting Smoke to regain his humanity and how he spends most of his trying to cleanse the Noob Saibot from his brother's soul and the other portion of his life looking after his clan. And the whole Frost scenario? I love how he actually forgave Frost for trying to kill him in DA to the point that he actually gave her a funeral of sorts. Then, in Unchained, you'd think he would just kill Frost on the spot when he found out she was trying to kill him however, he merely freezes her solid until she can be tried fairly...TRIED...FAIRLY! The old Sub-Zero was just a cold-hearted minion and the old Lin Kuei would have killed anyone that looked at them cross-eyed without giving it a second thought. Now, this Sub-Zero is a capable, noble, level-headed leader who puts others before himself and the Lin Kuei is now a force of defense from invasion from other realms for Earthrealm. Taking off his mask was the best thing Sub-Zero could have done and I regret not having liked him earlier.

Quan Chi's many alliances
I consider his willingness to forge alliances with Shang Tsung (DA), Shang Tsung Raiden (D), and then Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, and Onaga (A) to be Mr. Chi's defining moments. Most evil doers are only out for themselves and will only accept help if it comes in the form of a minion, not a partner. Quan Chi on the other hand can look passed petty differences and the fact that he knows that this thing will eventually blow up in his face for the greater good...uh, evil. Despite the fact that he's my most-hated character, I can honestly say that he's the smartest character in the MK roster.

Shao Kahn's alliance with Quan Chi
Though it happened in a relatively short (Though shocking...) cinematic in Armageddon's Konquest, I thought that Shao Kahn's willingness to join Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, and Onaga, three guys he has absolutely NO reason to trust, really said something about him. Normally you would consider a conqueror like Kahn to be single-minded and rather stupid. However, Kahn didn't become emperor of Outworld by simply carrying a big weapon and hitting people with it. Case in point: all the lengths he went to to ensure Onaga wouldn't come back rather than just leaving him for dead and rushing into the whole "Emperor of Outworld" thing; refusing to go into any other wars (Aside from ones where he's defending territory...) and cloning himself rather than trying to take on everyone and their mother after MK3 when he was severly weakened and knew people would try to take advantage of him; his willingness to join his enemies. Kahn may not be a pretty fighter, what with how his entire fighting style revolves around his hammer and strength, and he may be insane, but he's like Hitler. Hitler was cooku for Crazy Puffs but both he and Kahn knew what they were doing (Except Hitler...he never learned when to back down, unlike Kahn.). Furthermore, Kahn's not one of those "sit in his throne and let his army do all the work" kind of guys. No, he's on the battlefied when he needs to be and when he's there, he makes everyone KNOW he's there.

Smoke
NOTHING! Midway has done absolutely nothing for Smoke! I loved his storyline in MK3 and would have been okay with Human Smoke being playable in Mortal Kombat Deception so long as they explained why I can't be the robot. However, the most Midway has done for Smoke was teaming him up Noob Saibot and even that has forced him into obscurity as the team is more about Noob and not so much Noob-Smoke. I should like his ending in MKA as it's the robot side winning but really, I'm disappointed. I would have much rather seen the human finally emerge and take claim of his body. The worst part about this is that we have no idea what Smoke was like before being automated. I guess since he hung out with the second Sub-Zero he was a pretty decent guy and that, considering how he seems so stealthy and how in MKSM he seems secretive, he's relatively smart. However, we have no idea of knowing as Midway seems reluctant to do anything with Smoke at all!

"Reptile- If he only knew (MK2 ending)
The thing that always struck me about Reptile is how...not even just his MK2 ending, but his MK3 ending too...if he only knew Shao Kahn had enslaved and destroyed his race, he would've turned against him. And yet, for whatever reason, this revelation always eluded him until it was too late."

Reptile is a tricky character (part of why I like him). In his MK2 ending it said that during MK1 he discovered Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn's plot to enslave what was left of his species.
The fact that Reptile's MK2 ending never happened doesn't change the fact that he learned about this enslavement plot during MK1.

I could go the easy route and say that he did try attacking Shao Kahn, lost, and had his memory of the plot erased. But that way is a bit boring and doesn't afford Reptile any credit.

I like to think that he did know of the enslavement plot, knew his species was still alive (and in hiding) and used his own brand of deceit and cunning to insure they escaped the reach of Shao Kahn. Reptile himself remains loyal to Kahn in order to keep tabs on things and keep the surviving Zaterrans one step ahead of Kahn.
Of course, when things go bad for Kahn he must focus on fighting off the Edenian forces, and dismisses his ideas of enslaving the Zaterrans. I just remembered- there's that one bit in Shaolin Monks right at the start where you see Reptile standing over the Pit. He says, "I don't serve Shang Tsung." Sure, he works for Shao Kahn, but up to that point he was serving Shang Tsung directly as his bodyguard. And just hearing him say it with such hate in his voice makes me think that he really did know about the enslavement plot.

Sub-Zero (younger)- Reforming the Lin Kuei (MK:DA)
Sub-Zero was a tough one to think of, but I think this shows the essence of his character. When he started out, he was a fighter trying to live up to the "Sub-Zero" name and serve the Lin Kuei. But then he abandoned the Lin Kuei to forge a new path for himself, not wanting to be used as one of their soulless weapons. And with this, he establishes that he wouldn't just live up to being a "Sub-Zero," he would prove to be the greatest Sub-Zero...not by being a mindless weapon of the Lin Kuei, but instead reforming it as a force for good as its leader.

To Reppy: About Reptile having previously known about his race being enslaved, I'd say MK retconned that as they retcon a lot of things. Remember how Scorpion vowed to protect the younger Sub-Zero? No you don't! Deadly Alliance's Konquest says he only promised not to hurt him! My point is that MK2 might have said Reptile known about the enslavement but I honestly doubt it. Granted, his MK4 ending has him saying that he wants his realm restored to the way it was before Shao Kahn destroyed it. If that can be counted for anything I would say that maybe Reptile did know but he also knew that the only way to free his people was to suck up to Shao Kahn relentlessly. Then, as he rapidly devolved, he forgot why he was working for Kahn in the first place and became just a loyal pet who only knew to serve him.

Myself, I believe that Reptile might have been a survivor of Kahn's invading Zaterra and Kahn himself might have raised him into a warrior. That would explain Reptile's undying loyalty to the closest thing to a father he has. Of course, that's doubtable too as in Shaolin Monks and Armageddon, he seems more concerned about his people than Kahn. Given that, I believe the cold hard reality of the situation is that Kahn killed off every Zaterran except Reptile and Khameleon. Reptile served Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, hoping that they would help him find his race or "free" them from their "enslavement," even though the villains knew they were extinct all along. Then, as Reptile devolved, he might have lost site of what he really wanted out of Kahn and only knew that he was serving him.

As for how he says how he doesn't serve Shang Tsung with such loathing, I originally thought he took his Kahn-serving ways very seriously (As I thought he lived his entire life for him at the time.). Nowadays though, I think maybe Reptile said it simply because he doesn't see himself as a pawn and only does as he's told in the vain hope that he'll be reuninted with his people one day.

Whatever floats your boat.

I'm not going for that retcon business though. Reptile's story still works even when he knows about the enslavement plot and gives him an extra layer of character that wasn't there before.

Liu Kang defeating Goro and moving on to face Shang Tsung (MK1)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what I feel made Liu Kang the supreme champion of Mortal Kombat and it shows the might of Liu Kang and why even a god such as Raiden would be impressed by him. I feel that this moment defined the future events of Mortal Kombat and is quite possibly the most epic moment in all of Mortal Kombat history. We know that the fate of Earthrealm was to be determined in the battle between Liu Kang and Goro, and Liu Kang bested Goro and literally saved the world. It was hinted in his bio that he despised Shang Tsung and it clearly shown as Liu Kang moves on to fight Shang Tsung on an island that was collapsing. Liu Kang defeated Shang Tsung with what I feel is his signature move "The Flying Kick" and this prooved to Shang Tsung that Mortals are not as weak as they are claimed to be.

Shang Tsung's Pledge To Shao Kahn (MK2)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I felt that this moment made Mortal Kombat feel alot BIGGER. You find out that the main villain in the first game is in fact just a minion of an even bigger badder villain. This also introduces us to the Empire that Shao Kahn had built, it shows us the consequences that the Mortal Kombat tournament has had to the Outworld and introduces us to SHAO KAHN. I also feel that this is a golden moment for Shang Tsung because it establishes him as a very cunning and manipulative character that does not get by on power, but by deception. Shang Tsung uses his great cunning to convince Shao Kahn into luring Liu Kang into Outworld by killing everything he treasures.

Johnny Cage Abandons his movie set (MK2)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This move is what made Johnny Cage one of my favorite characters in Mortal Kombat. Johnny Cage to me seemed like a character that needed something to proove to the world that had doubted him. It seemed like that was his reason to entering the Mortal Kombat tournament in the first place. In Mortal Kombat 2 it shows you how much of a loyal friend Johnny Cage is to Earth's forces when he abandons his progress on making a new movie after his huge success with Mortal Kombat the movie without saying a word. Instead he follows Liu Kang into Outworld to take on Shang Tsung again and whatever unknown dangers lie in this unknown world, a move that is very balsy. It also shows that Johnny Cage is in this not to proove anything but to protect the Earth and to help his allies. Johnny Cage is considered a cocky character but the actions that he makes clearly shows a side of Johnny Cage that is actually very dependable and capable and mature, it seems that his arrogance, stubborness, and cockyness is only a cloak to hide the true person underneath.

Liu Kang's Death And Zombification (MKDA and MKD)

This really did take it over the top. Why kill him??? Now he has become evil and kills in the name of a corrupt god. I hope in MK8 he is back to normal

Sonya Blade

Determination to find Cyrax and Kenshi

Sonya has always been shown as a true hero and would march head first into any battle no matter how small her chances of survival may be to save those she cares for. Two of her allies were lost in Outworld during the Deadly Alliance period and she vowed to save them. Unfortunatley for her, she was killed by the Tarkatan Army outside Shang Tsung's palace. But her loyalty to her allies and desire to see them to safety is one of Sonya's character defining moments.

If Shaolin Monks was considered canon, I would also mention her charging straight towards Goro, a beast twice her height and god knows how many times her weight. That showed her heroism.

Raiden- When he reformed into a being of pure pragmatism after unleashing his godlike essence.

Kano- When he decided to lead Shao Kahn's armies into earthrealm. This sealed his fate as a warrior of darkness, rather than just a criminal.

Chameleon- When he, ummmm....errr... hid in the shadows!

Although I'm not a huge fan of Kano, he has proven to be a character with an interesting story up until recently. He's such a great opportunities, willing to take anything if it benefits him in the end.

After being tossed from the rooftop of a building like a bad loogie, Motaro healed him and imprisoned him. I believe, after some consideration and convincing, Kano managed to goad Sheeva into killing Motaro and freeing him. At this point, Sheeva was going to attempt killing Shao Kahn with Kano's help, but Kano made a wise move, and revealed to Shao Kahn her plans.

He also took the role as a general in Shao Kahn's army, managing to repel the Edenian army with a disadvantage apparently. I don't remember if Kano had the centaurs on his side or not, but I'm going to assume he set Shao Kahn's "humans" against the Edenians and Shokans, which to me, sounds like it took a helluva lot of guts and brains.

Tactical and deceiving, but one of the smartest characters in the series, I believe these few moments were Kano's defining traits and solidified him as an overall villain. They can take his story somewhere, but he's being held back a lot lately.

Here are a few of mine that pop into mind. People have mentioned a lot already, so I'll try to include some that haven't been talked about yet.

Sonya Blade:Targeting Sektor and the Tekunin in MK:A
This is as big of a defining moment for Sonya as her MK: DA goal of rescuing her comrades. We are finally shown that Sonya isn't some stale, single-minded character obsessed with killing Kano in every installment. Instead, we see what truly makes Sonya a hero of MK: her thirst to keep the peace in Earthrealm and take on anyone and anything that stands in her way to accomplishing this, regardless of whether it's the Black Dragon or not. It shows why Sonya deserves to continue to be a character in future MKs: she is a flawless Earthrealm hero.

Cyrax:Regaining his "human" self in MK: Gold
Huge, huge turning point for Cyrax. Not only did he become more human, but he became a completely new character in a way. He went from a Lin Kuei that was screwed with and remained in a robotic, continuous state, to one of the Earthrealm protectors by joining The OIA. It opened up new doors for Cyrax's storyline and turned him in an entirely new, welcomed direction.

Raiden:Reviving Liu Kang
When I found this out, I was just in awe wow. This was more of a surprise than Raiden giving into his "dark self" in MK: Deception. This is a defining moment for Raiden because it shows us that, well, the thunder god has lost his damn mind. It really shows that Raiden now isn't just a rotten version of his old self: he is a powerful maniac overly-obsessed with keeping Earthrealm safe by any means necessary. I don't know what Raiden will shock us with next, but I'm not looking forward to it wink.

Kitana:Joining the Shokan and Rushing Khan's Militia
This was a new side to Kitana that I had not seen before. This is just as big of a defining moment for her as her turning against her "father" Khan in MK2. I saw a stronger, fearless Kitana. No longer was she in need of being rescued by Liu Kang and playing the "damsel in distress" of the protagonist. She was now a headstrong warrior who had the persuasive skills to get the Shokan on her side and the amazing determination to charge Shao Khan's forces in a final attempt to finish him off once and for all.

That's all that I can think of for now. Will mention more later. smile

Johnny Cage becoming the new hero:

He decided to be the new leader of the Earth warriors and attacks a fallen elder god alone. He also wants to protect the Earth now that Liu Kang only exists as ghost.
