OK...this is crazy:

1) Kenshi

Because he is amazing. Period.

2) Tanya

Because she has tons of potential and looked FANTASTIC in MKD.

3) Rain

Should he even be on this list? Wasn't he part of the original roster of MKU+? This is sad and annoying news for Rain fans. I'd put him in #1, but, I hoenstly prefer those two characters much more.

4) Robo-Smoke

The only reason he is on 4 is because I just have to put Shinnok in 5. We have human Smoke already? Cool! No need for "another character slot" just to make him Robot. It's goo news he made the cut. period.

5) Shinnok

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Shinnok. The only reason i've put him last is because I'm afraid of how much they are changing in the storyline and the possible horrible screw ups and retcons that will occur if Shinnok is involved.

*sigh*

Yeah, I know retcons will be inevitable in this new story, and they will be canon, but, I'm so in love with MK's story that I just don't want to see them throwing MK4, MKDA and MKD to the garbage (even though MKD did screw up many many things).

This is my list (from most to least wanted):

1. Tanya
I've always had a thing for female characters, I can't help it. If given the choice, I'll always play a game with a female character first. Sue me. tongue

2. Rain
Though not really a Rain fan, I do feel that he 'needs' to be in the game just for completion's sake.

3. Kenshi
One of the few decent 'new' characters to enter the series. Wouldn't mind to see him back.

4. Shinnok
Shinnok never really did it for me. He has always stood in Quan Chi's shadow in my opinion.

5. Cyborg Smoke
I've never been a fan of cyborgs in a fighting game, so I could do without Cyborg Smoke.

Wow.

I hope you're right that this could mean that Smoke stays Human this time, but I can't put anything passed Boon.

Yes and no, technically. If we're just going by the original Arcade games, then no, because Rain was only selectable in the home versions of UMK3 (not Saturn though) and in MK Trilogy. In the arcades he was a red herring, a colored sprite that appeared in the intro gameplay vs. Kahn, but nothing else.

Perhaps that's how Boon sees it? If so...a little silly, but sort of understandable.

I responded: @noobde Thanks for asking us. 1) Kenshi 2) Rain. I would like it if Shang Tsung was playable as he's my favorite! Sheeva needs love! <3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope all these responses are going directly to Ed @noobde on twitter instead of just replies on this forum. He may not check this and miss your responses. 1) I am really sad for Rain's fans. He SHOULD be in this game. 2) I'm considering that my choice of Kenshi was a mistake as he had a moveset close to Ermac's. Now that Ermac is in, Kenshi will no longer be what we remember.

3) I want this site to show love for Sheeva! It doesn't matter that she's "ugly" or "looks like a dude" or all the other criticisms I've heard. She's a different type of female character and deserves to be in this game!

4) I really, really, hope Shang Tsung is playable! I will be SO upset if he's not.

hmm i feel like rain is a must. if hes not in the game then its like he never existed. now, even if most people dont like him he was still part of our MK childhood growing up and i dont want to see him simply removed all together. it takes away from the nostalgia and I just think everyone of the characters from MK1 to trilogy should be there. so my #1 would have to be Rain for that reason. i hate stryker, but im glad hes in (probably) and i dont like sheeva either but i hope she makes the cut as well.

2.) Robo Smoke (for the same reason)
3.) Kenshi
4.) Shinnok
5.)Tanya
6.)New Char

I'm so fucking mad right now I can't even think about the actual question.

Smoke better still get captured and converted in the story mode. Maybe if he still does, and there just aren't any fights against him afterward, so Cyber-Smoke is an NPC like MKvsDC Quan Chi was, I can understand and tolerate that. But one of the cybers has to be god damned against their will, that's the ONLY thing that makes the fucking cyberninja storyline interesting at all. You can't let Smoke get away and just dick around as some boring fucking sidekick to Sub-Zero who doesn't fucking DO anything as a human for the entire third act of the game. ARGHHHHH.

Oh well, I still tweeted him that while I like Kenshi and would like to see Shinnok get a second chance, it'd be cool to see someone from the past get "Ermaced" in to the series.

Anyways, as for my list:

Who I'd want to see from that list:

6.Rain
5.Robo-Smoke
4.Tanya
3.Shinnok
2.Kenshi
1. New Character

I agree with T-Rex when it comes to Shinnok. They REALLY need to give him a second chance. Ditch the horrible costume and the Shang Tsung morphing and give him powers fit a fallen Elder God and not just skeleton hands from the ground or whatever.

Of course, I also agree with TheManWithTheGoldenGun when it comes to Nitara. I'd love to see her in this game too, even if, story-wise, it might not make that much sense. At least Ed agrees that she has a lot of untapped potential.

So along those lines, here is my list of characters that I'd love to see as DLC:

6. Nitara (I only put her this low on the list because I can't imagaine a scenario where she'd fit well in to this storyline. Still, she has a lot of potential and I'd love to see what kind of moves they could dream up for her!)

5. Bo Rai Cho (Personally, I think that he needs some redemption. He moved awkwardly and had moves that essentially mocked the awesomeness of drunken kung fu. He could be very cool if done right).

4. Kira (I know, most people hate her. But I'd love to see her get a real set of moves and see her in this time period leading up to what she eventually became. Lot's of untapped potential).

3. Sareena (She fits in to so many moving parts in the plotlines, it would be great to see her as a fully realized character and not the abreviated Armageddon character she was).

2. Fujin (Talk about a criminally underused character. He's a god, so I could see alternate events forcing him in to action in this game. Plus it would be cool to see what other types of wind powers they could come up with.)

1. Mavado (Sadly, he was taken before his time. Given Deadly Alliances small number of special moves, I really think that he got robbed of a real chance to connect with fans. Give him chains instead of bands and have him use them to zoom all over the arena, wrapping his opponent in them, etc, honestly, I think that he has a TON of potential).

I agree with all your points. Another post MK-3 character I would love to see is Havik. That man was sick and demented, which is why I loved him so.

For shits and giggles, I will re-list the possible DLC Choices and state how I feel each can work.

> Rain

I want to see him get simply because I love the man and he was part of the Trilogy. Although, he's original story was bleak, they can defiantly flesh him out since this game seems more story-driven.

> Shinnok

I never truly got to play MK 4, but his story truly entices me. I would love to him to make a come-back. Not to mention, didn't he play a rule in the original trilogy? I pretty sure he was the one that brought Sindel back to life [Razor's citation needed].

> Tanya

She's truly a evil bitch. Only doing tasks and whatnot that benefit her ass. I don't know how her story would work in terms of MK I - III. Maybe she signify the upcoming events that proceed MK Trilogy? Eh, not sure.

> Kenshi

Didn't he Shang Tsung double-cross him? I think his presence would re-con his entire mythos, so although cool, I don't if story-wise he would work out.

> Robo-Smoke

I..don't know what to think about this. Like stated before, this brings up more questions about how the team is going to handle Smoke this go around.

Again, Boon not mentioning Quan Chi pretty much confirms he's playable in the game. I still find it odd that he didn't mention Sareena, and I think Havik could possibly work out and would like to see him as DLC.

For the record, Cronus, Shang caused Kenshi's blinding before MK1, when he was still an old man.

So Kenshi could fit just fine as a character in the MK1 thru 3 era.

Ehh this is a re-telling with changes (for the 1.000.000th fuckin time) so why the hell are some people expecting every single freakin detail to be the same? Has it ever occured to you that they might come up with a whole new, perhaps even more interesting, plot for human Smoke? Just cause he had a weak story doesn't mean shit. They will obviously modify and add to his story. They have stuck to their roots but are making changes here and there cause believe it or not, THAT actually is the point of going back in time to change certain things. For Smoke not to turn into a robot will not be the end of MK. This might still happen in a sequel to this game.

I am so tired of this stupid, baseless, entirely BLIND FAITH-based argument.

It is not fucking possible for Human Smoke to have an interesting plot. Everyone who likes Human Smoke says that but none of them have proof that it's possible to write one, they all try to give me some shallow fan-fictiony idea and their ideas SUCK because they're not writers and they don't know the first thing about storytelling. Stories are built on TRAGEDY, GROWTH, and CHANGE, you have to have a hurdle to fucking overcome. If nothing happens to your characters, then NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS.

Being forced down onto a lab table and stripped of his humanity is the only thing that makes him interesting. The ONLY FUCKING THING.

Capturing him and forcing it on him is the only thing that makes Sektor and Cyrax interesting. Those boring assholes WANTED to be god damned robots, their storylines don't fucking matter until they seperate from the Lin Kuei and become unique in the sequels.

And being sad that he couldn't save his friend/trying to help him remember who he is is the only thing that makes Sub-Zero's MK3 story interesting. WHO FUCKING CARES about him being hunted by robots if he's not friends with the robots and could just stop and kill them without regret?

Not converting Smoke doesn't ruin one character, it ruins FOUR.

Thrilling information! Human Smoke might eventually make it.To the non-believers of Human Smoke, of course he must finally get the chance to prove he is a worthy fighter without all this technology. He has a million chances where to go if he prevents automation - he could even end up in Chaosrealm and become a Lord of Chaos. That would actually fit for him, considering that he's been fighting against his personalities throughout the historic storyline. This is an all-new storyline now, so anything can happen technically. Somebody mentioned that Human Smoke is simply a copycat. I disagree. Many of the characters have been very similar to each other but in time they still have evolved into their own characters. Even Frost and Sub-Zero differed enough despite the fact that they're both Lin Kuei cryomancers. Smoke in the other hand possesses smoke unlike no other.Enough with Smoke for now, for arguable thoughts join the Human Smoke dedicated topic I made whose link is in my signature also. About the potential DLC characters, not to declude some good ol' classics though, I would want to see a new character. Why? It would be a great investment to the future games, the new character could be the next Quan Chi. Especially now if they're to focus creating only one new character for this game.1. Kenshi2. New Character3. Shinnok4. Rain5. Tanya6. Robot Smoke

Exactly. If Smoke does stay Human this time around then they'll probably give Cyrax the "I don't want to be a Cyborg" flees, gets captured and automated story since they already gave him what should have been Smoke's pay-off in MK4 [getting his soul and memories back. Smoke meanwhile was deep in Shao Kahn's fortress as a trophy and MKD/MKA makes us wonder if Smoke did get his Soul/Memories back at all in 3]

@ Razor - Stupid, baseless blind-faithed argument? Oh you mean the people who came up with his initial story which you practically wanna sleep with aren't able to come up with a different, JUST AS GOOD, type of story? Well, i do. It is not blind faith or baseless. These are the same people that made Mortal Kombat good in the first place, so again; why is this baseless? In my opinion, they have improved the overall storyline with every new (canon) game they released. Sure some things could have been done better but overall, they have a very solid storyline. I am actually expecting good things from this game.

Not to mention that human Sektor has practically been confirmed to be part of the storyline at least, it is safe to assume there will be changes in the storylines of Cyrax and Sektor as well.

I don't normally jump on the "Tobias was better" bandwagon, but let's be clear that the guy who wrote the only good part of Smoke's story left Midway over 10 years ago.
I liked Vogel's work in DA and Deception a lot, but I don't think he has any say over the steering of the ship, he pretty much has to take whatever dumb idea Ed has and make it less dumb, and ever since Armageddon, he's been doing a worse and worse job of it.
I really don't think anything that changes history can be an improvement here. The fact that I continue coming to this board represents me trying my damndest to be optimistic about the game, but the truth of the matter is I've been mentally preparing myself for quite some time now for the reality that I might need to disown the franchise for the sake of my mental health and happiness like XiahouDun did after I've played it and seen how badly they ruined my favorite characters. I really hope it doesn't come to that and they prove me wrong...but I honestly don't see many signs of hope. The ONLY things that've pleased me since June are seeing the things they were smart enough to leave the same, that Sub-Zero's still the younger brother and Jax still gets his arms.
The whole "When are they gonna reveal Liu Kang and is he still the champion" mystery, the lack of Sheeva and Motaro so far, and this Smoke thing are all making me scared and angry that the creators don't really know what was good about their own franchise, they're just following the whims of the majority of the fanbase, a group of people who are dumb and don't really give a shit about story or know how to tell one. You can't write specifically to please the fans, writing is about what's best for the characters and to keep the plot moving.

Calm down please. I see there a brighter future for Human Smoke whereas Cyborg Smoke would only repeat the same old story where Smoke barely got into the first time. It seems as if they would now keep Cyborg Smoke in parallel with Human Smoke who would be the main character this time. You don't have to be a writer to come up with inventive nodes of plot. I personally haven't published my ideas here too much because I know they would for the most part disappear to the bit space anyway and therefore be useless. In my case though, I'm involved to literature to some extent and a friend of mine is a rather popular book author in my country. You don't clearly see the potential of Human Smoke that us and Ed Boon see. I totally understand your concern though when Tobias is no longer around. But if they'll now automate Smoke, that would be pretty much there for Smoke, giving no space for Human Smoke and that path would not be surpising to anyone. It would be a shocking turnup for many of us to see how Smoke closely avoids automation. But what then? Now, to name a few, I'll give you alternative paths for Smoke to go.1. Smoke could join now the Forces of Light and stay with them for some time. But later, in a critical situation, where Raiden is about to end the Outworld empire once and for all (something similar to Vegeta in DBZ), Smoke would turn his back to the Forces of Light and shows that he would have turned evil anyway.2. In Mortal Kombat 10, Smoke could have a serious injury which would force him to rely on cybernetics he thought he avoided and what he hated. Smoke would still be a ninja but like Kano or Kabal and become an obdurated desperado. He obtained his cyborg legacy aback.3. Smoke has fought with his identies now for a while and even in his ninja form he may have two separate forms (human body and fog demon), he would now become more chaotic and join the forces of Chaos, eventually showing up as a Lord of Chaos.Seeing that you insulted some of us, what can you come up with yourself? But I'm still sure that NetherRealm Studios will want to make their own storylines. We just know that there are options.

That may not be the case. Kenshi didn't gain his telekinetic abilities during the MK1-MK2-UMK3 era.

My choice would be like this:

1. Pre-Telekinesis Kenshi. He fits in the storyline and he's a really cool character.

2. Robo-Smoke. Storyline purposes and because I like Robo-Smoke better than Human Smoke. :)

3. Rain. Could care less about him actually. But if he's in he should have the Super Roundhouse.

And finally, I would leave Tanya, Shinnok and the new character for the next MK. They are not too important to the storyline now anyway.
