About the list, the characters that I really consider interesting and that fit with the period of time are: Kenshi (rival of Tsung from before the first MK), Reiko (who was one of Kahns generals if I recall correctly, I think he should make that DLC list) and Tanya.

Other than that, Sareena, but I expect her to be in the game.

Now some thoughs about hints like that:


This is from Ed twitter and it was tweeted between the first comment and the Tanya correction.

I think it mostly confrims that Ed himself doesn't like the character too much.

I found this other tweet from the same time interesting:

Maybe a hint? He doesn't use to reply to tweets suggesting characters (he only responded months ago to Kratos comments on interviews saying that he will fit in the game).

Finally a hint from again the same time, about Stryker probably NOT wearing the same than in MK3:

I think it's certain that Smoke must remain Human this time. But if there's any believing to the leaked voice-overs, Smoke should have a voice more fitting to him. I think he should whisper.

hoping human smoke gets a drastic makover like ermac and not doesnt look like sub zeros costume.

1. Rain - Liked him in MKA and he should be in this game.

2. Tanya - Would be interesting to see her before she worked for Shinnok.. maybe flesh out the whole Jade - Tanya rivalry a bit more.

3. Shinnok - Always thought he's a pretty cool and unique character, although it might be better to save him for the next game.

4. Cyber Smoke - Smoke is already in this game, that's why Cyber Smoke is so low on my list.

5. Kenshi - He never really interested me for some reason.

6. New Character - MK already has enough characters that have not been much in the spotlight, we don't need a new one.

I'm surprised Rain is being considered as DLC! Both Kratos and Quan Chi were not playable in MK1-3, yet they managed to secure a slot on the initial roster over Rain? Big deal, he's not the most popular, but he deserves a space more so than they do. He's been around since UMK3, if Jade and Ermac (who were also introduced in that game for the first time being playable) can have a slot on the original select screen well then quite frankly so should Rain!

DLC, I'd actually want Nitara or Khameleon, quite simply because I feel Zattera and Vaeternus are two realms that we know very, very little about despite introducing two very cool characters into the franchise. Reptile's home world has never really been given any light and I always liked the idea that another of his kind, the last female of his kind, attempted to create some sort of bond and restore his race's glory, yet he spurned it. To me the idea that the world and race he fights for, yet tossed away, was always the highlight of Reptile's storyline, and without Khameleon that may never happen again.

Nitara, on the other hand, was just an absolute beast to play as and she fits the series perfectly. Her and Frost really stood out from the new characters presented in MK:DA and I'd like to see Nitara try destroy Shao Khan from an earlier point in time. Honestly, they'd be the only DLC I'd want.

Technically, Rain wasn't in Arcade edition of UMK3 (outside of the press-start demo). Jade and Ermac actually got there first.

Edit: it's similar to three other users, but not a close enough match to raise suspicion with me.

1. Rain (sad he won't be in the game, but we can't be too disappointed since Ed said from the start that MK1 to MK3 characters were the most likely to appear.)

2. Kenshi (I liked him, but I hope they differentiate his moves a little more to make him separate from Ermac.)

3. New Character (I would prefer a new female over a male)

4. Shinnok (never really cared for him, thought he was weak for a main boss).

5. Tanya (disliked her more than Shinnok)

6. Robo Smoke (seriously? I find no reason to waste a DLC spot for an character that looks different. I think this should just be his alternate costume.)

MKM:S-Z states that Quan-Chi was enacting his plan to free Shinnok from the Neatherrealm plus slaughtered Scorpion's family and clan [as well as set him and Bi Han against each other which resulted in Scorpion's death] So he's been a major player [albeit retroactively] for awhile so him earning a spot was forseeable especially since he'll be involved in Scorpion's and Bi-Han's rebirths.

Rain really didn't do anything during the 1-3 timeline.

Plus Kratos is an EXTRA character. An MK character wasn't removed to make room for him.

Agreed he's the best post UMK 3 Character.

1) Rain- Very surprised that he might not be in from the start. He should be on the roster initially as opposed to DLC. I was thinking they would save post UMK3 characters for DLC.

2) Tanya- I would love to see Tanya play both sides in the story this time, I'd like to see how she interacts with Jade, Shao Kahn, and Kitana, plus an additional female character would be awesome, since there aren't a large amount playable.

3) New character- they could literally do anything with this character, though I'd prefer something like a monster or some sort of beast.

4)Shinnok- He'd be cool simply for the fact that he'd be bridging the gap between UMK3 and MK4.

5) Kensh- He's okay, wouldn't mind seeing him make a cameo in story mode too.

6) Cyber Smoke-Really..? I don't get why he's absent, he should be an alternate costume for Smoke.

It's not like he is not going to be in the game at all, he'll just be DLC.



If they want Kenshi to fit in the story they won't give him telekinesis because he hasn't obtained it at this point of the story. He doesn't have to be similar to Ermac in any way, unless they add him just for gameplay reasons or retcon(?) his story.



I think it's better for him to be a separate character. I mean, how would you explain Human Smoke opening his chest to shoot a spear?

1.Rain- For the purposes of a game based on UMK1-3 Rain is pretty much the only one I would care to see as DLC, if only to help finish the UMK3 roster. I know he's not everyones favorite, but he deserves a spot over Quan chi. The fact that he's in and Rain got left out is just daffy. I don't know why so many people have such a boner over Quan chi that they're willing to kick Rain out for him.

2.Kenshi- I don't really care about Kenshi or his story for that matter, but he's better than the other choices.

3.Shinnok- With a little fixing could be a decent character. Doesn't really fit the time line but what ever. Again still better than the other choices.

4.New character- I really don't need any new characters in this game. But if it came down to having a new character over the last two choices then sign me up.

5.Cyborg Smoke- Smoke fans need to be thankful Smoke is in the game and stop asking for him to have 5 different forms with morphing action. One Smoke is enough. I don't care if he's human or cyborg, he's in the game so stop expecting multiple versions just because you think he should be cyborg instead of human.

6.Tanya- I would take Sareena, Kira, Frost, Li Mei, Nitara, or Ashrah over Tanya. Tanya is an awful character and is nothing more than the 'Yellow' female ninja. Her story is basically her screaming "Ha Ha! I was secretly looking out for myself!" at the end of the game. I wish Jade's canon ending in MKD included Jade killing her once and for all just so we can be rid of this joke. The game doesn't need any more ninja's least of all Tanya. I hope more than anything that Tanya is NOT in MK2011. In fact I don't even know why she's on this 6 person list. I would take Reiko, Kai, Fujin over her ugly ass any day of the week.

Why are so many people anti-Tanya? This will be the perfect opportunity for us to witness her true alliance. Within all the games she appeared in, she only chose the evil side to survive, so she's probably not evil by nature.

I don't hate Tanya but if it came down to her or Rain/Kenshi/CyberSmoke as DLC I'm picking the latter. I hope we get them all though

Wow this has truly caused a rumble.

Well to be honest rain didn't really get any story at all until MKA, but I feel it was a little too late by that time.

Plus he didn't have anything to do at all in MKT, he was just a character that was made in reference to Prince.

So I guess this means we will have to wait till after the games release to play as "The Kombatant formerly known as Rain"
