Definitely loving these screenshots!

As for the blood and gore, it would be nice to turn it off for the exact reason that Crow and Razor were describing. I dig the damage, and the attention to detail is better than ever, but occasionally I don't feel like beating the oppononent to a pulp literally.

Say what you will about how toned down MKvsDC was, but when my younger relatives came over, they had a game to play. This one? Yeah, not so sure they'd be able to play it. Which is fine, some games just aren't meant for little kids, but to be able to toggle stuff off and on like in the past would be a welcome addition.

the pit stage looks different... why is there noone fighting in the background??

does this mean we might have 2 pit stages and see the return of characters falling to there death and not been impaled on spikes :D

The screenshot's just been taken from a different camera angle (slightly underneath) so the characters will look all cool posed with the moon directly behind them.

That's the only reason it looks different and you can't see the second bridge.

Personally, I hope like the "turn off Blood" feature there is a feature to turn off the character damage. Sometimes it's a bit much for me, and the models are so good I'd like to look at them unflawed.

I would prefer if they allowed three levels of damage:
1. Maximum bloody damage like in the screens.
2. MKvsDC type damage with clothing being ripped.
3. Undamaged Models.

I agree that an option to turn it off or alter would be pleasant. Sometimes it's a bit too much, tough it's still nicely done by the team.

Why is it that Kitana's fans always change with the size?

MK2/UMK3 they're freakishly huge, the size that they should be.

Come towards Gold, in her versus pose, they're puny, but in her render, they look medium size.

In Deadly Alliance, they're big again

And in that drawing they're small.

Does Kitana's fans always change size or are the artists unaware of proportions?

Other than that, everything looks fine, omigosh there's no Scorpion and Sub-Zero information flooding...

Very well done MK Team! I hope they keep playing with the camera angles like this because the results are quite beautiful. They'd all look brilliant.

This update is faaar more interesting and better than that boring Sub-Zero MortalMonday and the past invasion of predictable Scorpion vids/pics.

Jade's desert with Sindel's statue is superb.

Kitana's and Cyrax's concept arts are very cool (about time they showed something else for these two characters).

Kitana's hair looks much better but she does look very old. Cyrax looks extremely evil!

Can't wait to see more. Give us more awesome character concept arts/renders please! smile Thanks MK Team.

I agree with the battle damage stuff. There is another option, try to get double flawless victory, although you still get stained with your opponents blood.

Beautiful concept art, great background with Sindel's statue, and the screenshots are wickedly awesome.

I loved the Scorpion vs. Johnny Cage one. The blood looks great. And I noticed behind Scorpion's broken mask, his skeletal jaw is still screaming in rage. Great attention to detail.

I thought I was crazy for a second... but yea, I saw that too. heh...

No, I completely agree. The damage looks cool and all, but sometimes I just like to admire the character models and that's a little difficult when they're all torn up and covered in red.

In that same vein I hope NetherRealm makes the damage harder to accumulate than it appears right now. I don't want Kung Lao's eyeball and jaw hanging out if he's barely taken a hit to his face. Nor do I want to see Scorpions skull revealed if he's barely been hit by his opponent.

To me it'd be so awesome to see your character barely scratched if you played a really good match where you don't get hit too often. My hope is that if you take about 50% damage each round and win in two rounds there should be a significant difference between you and your opponent.

There's a theme present: Sektor demands to be in on my PC's wallpaper. This moonlit shot has replaced him vs. Cyrax.

I too am up for an option to diable body damage...not that I'd be using it all that often.
I almost want the The model viewer from MkvsDC's bios just so I see all the details in these characters. Almost.

i think mk fans might be the most schizophrenic and nearly impossible fan base ever in the history of anything to please. there was endless bitching and moaning over mkvsdc because it was not the promised "gears of war style mk8" that was "promised". people cried and demanded more gore, more blood, more violence. now we got it in spades and what do some mk fans want... an option to turn it off? uh... go play the teen game mkvsdc if too much gore and character model mutilation bothers you? the last fucking thing the mk team developers need to read right now on forums is fans saying that now they think the violence is going too far and ruining the pretty character models. what a fucking schizophrenic joke. i could care less if there was an option to turn off body damage and to be honest if they waste time adding it i will be pissed as its time wasted that could go to something else in the game. there are plenty of fighting games out there to choose from without broken jaws, exposed eyeballs, etc., if that is too much for ya now maybe super smash brothers or barbie vs. disney is more your thing? this is mortal kombat and it should be brutal, violent, and bloody as hell. if that offends your need to look at undamaged character models, please get off the mk train.

for shame, really.

I'm either going to get some rants about this, but I'm really at a point where I don't care...

Here's the thing, there's nothing in these games that's going to please the entire fan base. It's impossible to give in to everyone's needs and go off from there. The developers cannot please everyone and how now everyone is complaining that this is TOO MUCH gore?

Stop judging everyone based on a few comments made by a few people. I personally never once "whined" about character damage in Mortal Kombat. You need to grow up; I specifically stated I thought the damage looked great but that I'd simply like to be able to admire the models themselves prior to them being damage. It isn't "time wasted" because it would actually be a rather simple feature to add.

This is exactly why everyone ends up laughing at Mortal Kombat fans. Uninformed, unwelcome and uncalled for attitudes. That sir, is for shame.

hey crow, i knew you would swoop in with your superiority complex. once you state something and someone disagrees you get on your high horse and spout of contradictory comments. you are one of the people saying you want an option to turn off violence in the game WHICH MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE! it is not judging, it is fact. you are a god damn higher on a mortal kombat forum and you are wasting time after years of people moaning about not enough violence in mk by wanting an option to turn it off. if you want to turn it off then why should they even add violence and gore to mk in the first place?

now insert your comments about how only you can come up with any idea and if someone else challanges the mighty crow they are just wrong.

I've got much better things to do than argue with immature children, back on topic.

Much like Mortal Kombat was born with a code to turn off the blood, I fail to see how this is somehow soiling MK's legacy. The team has done a great job with character damage truly, but it really is a bit overkill in some instances and as mentioned a bit too quick to accumulate. Allowing people that want to turn it off to turn it off shouldn't be some huge problem anyone needs to get bent out of shape about. No one is asking the gore be removed from the game; you can still enjoy the game as it is if you want to. No one is forcing you to use such an option if it was made available in the game.
