Thank you, this makes it more obvious that NRS isn't consistent with their character appearances. The tattoos aren't even the same as in MKDA. This is getting ridiculous...

I'm pretty sure NRS have artistic license to do whatever they like to their characters. I know it may seem like a huge continuity hindrance but seriously, at least they changed SOMETHING about his design. Like it's really going to make a difference when you're in the middle of gameplay with/against him, seriously. What do you expect anyway, it happened with Sub-Zero's scar...

Sub-Zero got the scar in between MK2 and MK3. However, his outcome has changed this time and therefore he hasn't gotten the scar.

Quan Chi shouldn't even have such tattoos yet. He got them in MKDA, inscribing the incantation to control the Dragon King Army AFTER he fled from the Netherrealm where Scorpion was hunting him.

It's cool, they can change the characters' appearances, but they should know when what happened to what character and have their appearances match that.

@Lycan, when you have your cursor on the bottom right / left boxes you can press in the direction of the arrow to "cycle" all the characters who are selectable from there. SC3/4 did the same system for any "edit" characters you've added to the game.

Its a safe assumption CSZ, Kratos, playable bosses and any DLC will be picked that way.

Edit; It bums me out tho that Quan Chi got his own box and CSZ didn't. I guess maybe the rationale was to keep people from "expecting" another character to be unlocked by way of an empty box, but with the rest of this barebones select screen it just seems lame.

I am aware of how that system worked. I owned both SC3 & 4. The point is that Both on each side are highlighted for player 1. Only one side should be highlighted. In SC for the created characters slot...it was only noticed as selected on one side by one player. Plus...there were not arrows in SC lol. Youtube it if ya do not believe me wink

I am just saying because if you look at the image it is obvious that the player...in this case it looks to be 1 vs CPU...is hovered over Quan Chi after already choosing C. Subs. Only one side should be highlighted or darkened if each side is meant for each player hover/selection. The only other thought I would cover the idea to the image with both lit up is if the CPU hover is there while the first player is still selecting themself...one case scenario/possibility but even if that was the case than still only one side would be highlighted regardless...unless it is the select screen in team mode an the second members have not been chosen yet...another possible scenario. That would lead to other question though like how come we dont see any second fighter for the player 1 behind C.Subs or atleast a blacked out C.Subs because he was already chosen once?

How is it ridiculous?

I find it ridiculous that they can remember Quan Chi has tattoos, but not how they look like. Why change the tattoos to look like something else like that?

Well, then also ask "why change the direction of his shoulder pad?" I mean, if little changes as what his tattoos looks like got people to notice, the designers did their jobs.

Its obvious they like the look of Quan Chi with red markings, he certainly had no reason to be sporting them in DC. There's no guarantee they intend these to be the same tattoos he once got in DA, and from what has been murmered its not even touched on in the story mode this time around. He could just have gotten tattoos or the red markings anywhere. That was probably the point of changing them.

Certainly Razor will drop down from the ceiling and proclaim Quan Chi was as grey as slate in MK4 so this is a total violation of canon doctrine, but Scorpion didn't have a 3 swords in MK4 and johnny cage didn't have his name tattooed on his chest in DA, but here we are so who gives a shit.

Characters change. Nobody wants to draw the same character forever.

Clothes is one thing. We all change our clothes regularly (hopefully). But a tattoo is something permanent on the skin which takes surgery to alter or take off. And as said, Quan Chi shouldn't even have those tattoos yet.

And by the way, the reason Quan Chi's shoulderpad is on the wrong shoulder is because it's mirrored to be on the Player 2 side...

Maybe they liked the tattoo look on him and maybe they KNEW that he didn't get those other tattoos until later, so they used different tattoos. These new tattoos could simply be rearranged at the point where he normally got the other ones that you're so upset about.

Seems like a win/win.

They probably AREN"T tattoos, they are more like a womens make-up used on his body. Why would a mage use tattoos?

So basically, they're back to the whole, "If I pick Kano on the other side, his cyborg eye will be opposite?" Yeah... I don't think so.

I like the tattoos as well, but I was hoping for the more original Quan Chi look this time around, or maybe a whole new look, instead of this version yet again.

I am overall upset about having him in this game in the first place. He more or less took over Shang Tsung's role in Story Mode which is totally unnecessary. I'd rather have Rain take his place in the roster, as he was actually part of the main trilogy.

He didn't take over Shang's role. His story is probably going to revolve around him making a big mess out of the whole Noob/Sub-Zero/Scorpion story and be an irritating little runt. With Shang, he's more likely going to focus trying to aid his master, defeat Liu Kang, and become the keeper of souls. Neither of them might even come in contact with each other during this game.

Yes people, I still don't know the story and won't until I see it myself.

But, I hardly doubt either one of them will act the same way as each other, granted that they're both sorcerers.

Usually mages/wizards/sorcerors/ect with tattoos or markings use them for a few things...status in a clan, rune magic, ritualistic holidays/cerimonies and spellcasting of course. Am sure there are more things they are used for but those are just a few. Than again this is MK and not an RPG or occultism lol.

Technically, Rain wasn't part of the main trilogy, he was part of UMK3. But, I know how you feel wanting him in the roster, it somehow feels slightly incomplete without him and a certain sub-boss in the game. Not that i'm too fussed though, DLC will solve that!

Absolutely not. You were saying no one wants to draw the same character design over and over again... That's what Capcom has done with the Street Fighter series, with a few exceptions. No, I love how they keep updating and changing character in Mortal Kombat, however, Quan Chi is basically the same as he was in MKDA, with the changed tattoos though.

Quan Chi is more powerful than Shang Tsung ?

I always had this impression, but , Shang seems to be more astute and act with more, trickery ....

Both seems to have a bit of "personal rivarly" against each other, hum ?

No one wants. Some people do. SF never changes because SF aesthetic design is lame as fuck. KOF, Tekken, Virtua, Dead or Alive, Bloody Roar, every other fighter changes its characters because nobody wants to draw the same guy forever.

and even SF4 has now 4 alts for every character in the game, some quite departed from their core looks.
Edit: That smoke looks just as fake as fake gets.
