I don't see how stripping down the guys is the solution. They should just cover up the girls.

Peace.

I know well what the reaction from some people (kids?) will be.

However, that shouldn't be a reason not to hear from all the others that have something interesting and mature to say, such as VeinZ and [Killswitch], for example.

There's plenty more worthwhile posters around who might have something interesting to say.

It is a "controversial" topic, but, surely not one that can't be handled unless MKO consists mostly of infants.

There is nothing controversial about this. All respect to said users but they just restated the obvious conclusions that anyone can come to. The civil manner sure helps, but beyond that it is just obvious.

Nothing controversial about this. Male nudity is only controversial to the USA and its cultural periphere perhaps. And that is coming from someone who is living in a post socialist block nation what forbids gay marriage, is severely persecutive among post sovblock countries, and is mostly catholic or evangelist

There is nothing controversial about male bodies, this is nothing beyond fawning. There is no artistic or explorative take, message within this. It is just sex appeal drawn. The same way as fanart objectifies females. This is not controvery, it is idiocy and immaturity on masturbatory levels.

Seeing male junk, male bodies is not a big deal. Showers. Swimming pools etc., you get to see the male body. AND?

Exactly my point. Exactly the reason why I wrote "controversial" within quotes. Now, tell that to some of the posters in this thread.

As to "stating the obvious", same thing could be said about many other topics. This is a discussion board, after all. I'm happy to see this one is actually sparking up some interesting thoughts and contributions. It doesn't have to be a super groundbreaking analysis in order to be worthwhile.

New posters like Temporary, Espio, and Disco_Diva make it worth it, just like the two others I mentioned before them who actually happen to not agree with this possibility. It is an interesting discussion.

I just think all the characters should just wear outfits that actually make sense for fighting. No high heels, please. Guys can be shirtless, whatever, but I think guys or girls fighting in thongs is just stupid.

I don't really know what t contribute to this thread other than what Remonster just said, unless the lack of clothing actually fits into the character's personality and such.

Gay shit like this wouldn't surprise me at all.

I just hope MK keeps things straight (pun intended)

I'm not against gays, you all do your thing just keep it out of my life (that includes Mortal Kombat). That's all I ask. I don't need half naked men in MK. I also HATE half naked chicks in MK. I always have. I don't want sex in my violent entertainment. If I want to see tits and ass, I can just go to redtube.com. NRS needs to keep that shit to a minimum.

FYI. I have a gay best friend since kindergarten... so to all the gays out there, keep your flames up your ass where you like it. I don't need a homosexual lecture. Thank you.
wtf skulled this guy for making a perfectly valid point? I guess that's saying we all have to accept faggotry in every aspect of our lives and be all like, "thank you sir, may I have another?"

F*** that and f*** you too. Skull me, idgas.

Also, the person who wrote that "the female form is considered the most beautiful" isn't actually correct. Greco-Romans believed the [naked] male form was the most beautiful.

You are the biggest idiot I have ever seen on this forum. I also don't believe you have a "gay best friend" because he would've kicked your ass a long time ago if he even had any self-respect.

Do Greco-Romans make up most of the population? Or is this a reference to ancient times that are no longer applicable? A time when women were probably not considered much of anything when compared to a man. Women are far more considered symbols of sex and beauty TODAY. If there is a beautiful woman, people of all ages and genders will recognize this. Less so for men.

I'm not saying men are ugly, and certainly some cultures would celebrate men. But I believe I said most people. I don't think I'm not "actually correct" based on your reference.

Can you guys stop flaming the thread and begone? Nobody is forcing you guys to come in here and be petulant.

Nobody cares if you guys like gay people or not (fun fact,:it's not relevant to the thread).

Mature thoughts on the subject are surely welcome though.

I dont understand the concept as to why people are in an uproar over half naked male ninjas. Its an idea the OP had and we should all learn respect and have the courtesy to politely agree or disagree without bashing the ideas of others...

I don't see what's so bad about it. I mean look at Shao Kahn, all he wears is some shoulder pads, a helmet and some black spandex with a crotch guard (Or a dark red piece of cloth in this game) and I don't think he looks gay, he looks like he's trying to say "I don't need pants to kick your ass" The original Johnny Cage was just wearing a pair of shorts and a red sash, he didn't look gay, albiet I wouldn't really consider that revealig. Goro doesn't wear much either. I honestly wouldn't be too offended if there were more guy characters who dressed like that.

The ones in the OP were a little much for me though. Maybe they would work with a few tweaks, i.e add some sort of combat gear to the Rain one, maybe a plate skirt or some wrist guards and change the torso, maybe adding some shoulder pads or straps like Shao Kahn has so he looks like he's meant to fight. I don't think anything could make the male kitana work though.

I'm not saying they would look "gay".

Shao Kahn has been wearing almost the same costume he's worn back in MK2. I'm used to him looking that way for a long time now. Characters like Scorpion, or Kenshi would look totally off to me if they wore something similar to Kahns.

It would be a dramatic change in the game that would come out of nowhere and it would just be downright stupid if they did that. If that makes sense...

I would have no objection to half naked men in MK.

Goro already is.

Shao Kahn practically is.

I would however have strong objections to putting men in women's costumes. Not because it's sick or distasteful or anything like that.

It just looks fuckin' stupid. And, as you can tell from my hatred of Havik and Mokap, I have no tolerance for looking fuckin' stupid.
Edit: Also, regardless of how many women and gay men play this game, the target audience is still straight teenage boys and you'd better believe that's what they're going to cater to, from now until forever.

Honestly, upon seeing Rain's render being released, you would think he comes from some Arctic wasteland rather than Edenia where almost everyone is prancing around in lingerie...

While queve's original post had some... extreme examples, I'll agree that some of the clothing they sport on the male characters is a little much. Armor is one thing, but I'm amazed that some can even move, let alone fight.

Which brings up the girls as well... Mobile outfits? Yes. A good choice against fighting the deadliest warriors with dangerous blades and magical powers? No.

A female like Ashrah or armored Li Mei would be a good example. It's a matter of balance. Some men need less clothes, some women need more. As long as high testosterone teens continue to see Mileena is things like her Flesh Pits costume though I think we'll just be seeing a lot more of the female anatomy.

Look at the animation above. This is the animation of Johnny Cage in the first Mortal Kombat game. Look at what he is wearing. Shorts. He is already now wearing less than Kitana does in the newest MK. Is he being slutty, provocative or anything like it? No, he is not.

Men can wear little without being seen as provocative. And I do not find the male costumes in MK3 to look provocative either, nor do I think anyone else did, but that is of course just an assumption. However, I have never read that anyone think they are dressed provocative or naked at least.

I think Queve comes with some valid points here. A man doesn't need to be covered from top to toe, like women doesn't need to be half-naked either. I would actually like to see some more male "nudity" in Mortal Kombat, but in a classy and cool way, like with Cage in MK1... though perhaps just a tad more creative than just a pair of shorts.

Please, people, at least try to stay mature about this instead of acting like homophobic ignorant kids. A naked man does not equal a gay man. If that was so, then all men would be gay while bathing.

Wow, talk about showing your true colors, folks. Grow the fuck up. What's truly funny to me is how a gay man, such as myself, while being attracted to other men, does not act like some idiotic man-child when he sees a naked woman. I appreciate the female form as something beautiful, and don't need to 'puke' when it is presented to me. But idiotic straight boys act like they're dying because they saw a man's body? It's not like it was a throbbing erect penis oozing at you in 3d.

On topic, I am in favor of it. I don't think any of the existing male characters should be dressed down with the exception of Rain, whose heritage and water theme(assuming he still has it) depict someone who would dress less modestly than he does. I would very much like to see a new male character, however, who is designed from the get go as a less covered up character. It's not a sexual thing, trust me.

I consider myself an artist, I spend at least six hours a day working and my two favorite subjects are the nude male and female form. I would not mind seeing Mileena or Jade dressed so provocatively if their bodies were more realistic. If their boobs were not specifically designed to be 12-year-old-boner-inducing, and they were perhaps actually shaped like women, they could be quite beautiful. Mileena especially, in my opinion, should be slightly curvier. She's supposed to have alluring sex appeal, but as people mature(aka the people who are supposed to be playing this game) most men favor a woman with curves, it's a simple fact.

On the topic of naked men, their bodies are so intricately designed, naturally, that they are truly something beautiful to look at, just as much as a woman. There was never any decision that a woman's body is just more beautiful than a man's. When it comes to men in a fighting game(perfect physical condition) there are details that shouldn't be ignored. Legs, for example. I don't want to see a man in a thong, but I do want to see a man with bare legs. Well developed legs are the most perfect part of the body, in my opinion.

Though, someone mentioned that seeing a man's junk flopping around seemed vulgar, can I just bring up the fact that after Mileena eats your face, she touches her breasts, they jiggle, and she moans? THAT is vulgar. But, when you are performing acrobatic moves, your penis sure as hell is going to flop around just like boobs, and that is just nature. Nature decided to make it bouncy. I'm not saying I want to play a man who pelvic thrusts his enemy to death with his rubber band genitalia, but I am saying that a jiggly penis is not any more vulgar than jiggling, bloody, boobs.

I am a great admirer of the human male body when it is at its most ideal.

Same with the human female body.

By ideal, I mean the best that it can look without outside agents such as plastic surgery or drugs.

Which is why I get so angry when I see the human male body's features being taped onto the human female body.
