Kung Lao Render Released!

NetherRealm Studios revealed a new render of Kung Lao, Liu Kang's trusted companion and hero of Earthrealm, as well as one of the first characters revealed way back at E3 2010, in connection with the Mortal Kombat European Tournament.

We have seen Kung Lao in many screenshots and videos and this render, chest out, brow furrowed, standing strong in front of a blood splatter, depicts the fan favorite Shaolin Monk as the steadfast warrior his in-game persona suggests.

The Official Italian Mortal Kombat Tournament will be held at Ludica 2011 with the winner earning the honor of representing Italy at the grand finals, held in Birmingham in April. All participants at Ludica will receive a free gadget while the top three winners will earn a trophy as well as the Kollector's Edition of the game.

I love the outfit. I'm just not sold on his face. I'd have preferred that he looked more like he did in MKDA and MKA. It's a minor issue though. It's a good render overall.

Awesome render! I'm glad we are finally seeing the ones with the blood in the background being released. It's a shame Kung Lao doesn't look handsome anymore, though.

His face is kind of ugly.

That being said:

1) This is still a thousand months overdue.
2) Almost all the characters are still missing render releases.
3) All characters feature more than 2 renders and we haven't even seen those official renders+ concept art pic being released.

Yes, I'm frustrated by this and I have to type it down or else I would feel like I didn't do my part.

Ugh.

always love to see kung lao, the clint eastwood of mk, imo. he only let me down in mk3. mk5 he kicked major ass and looked great. mk9 he looks even better and has shown some stunning combos. cannot wait to get my hands on his moves. kung lao > liu kang forever

Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Reptile, Sektor, Mileena, and Johnny Cage's Render like this were in the EGM magazine. These are definitely renders. Concept art does not look exactly like the in-game verison.

I agree with queve.

Despite his body size, I thought MKVSDC Liu was perfect. He actually seemed liked the Champion of Mortal Kombat. His face was very nice too. His current incarnation is alright, but I feel he looks a bit silly with those red ribbons hanging around his waist and what not. But he doesn't look horrible.

Kung-Lao is perfect except for his face.It's like the MK team has a fear of designing attractive males. He's not ugly, I just wish he looked like he did in MKDA. He was actually handsome.

I see nothing wrong with his face.

The costume is perfect and the hat rocks of course! Overall, one of the best designs in MK2011.

I think his face looks great, personally.

I like the costume too, of course. I loved it in Shaolin Monks already, but the new ribbon loops at his hips, recalling the ones he had in MK2 and 3, was a neat little addition.
For the record though, this IS concept art. Digitally painted art of the final costume, sure, but it's still not a 3d model, which is what the word "render" is meant to mean. No big deal, just throwin' that out there.

He looks good in this game, but I think his face and costume were better in MKDA.
