Even though I'm going to get the game new (as I do with every MK), this is fucking bullshit. It's like Shao Kahn himself is ruling WB. Publishers are acting like fucking dictators.

I don't really buy much used stuff, but I like to borrow and lend games. And when I do, I fucking test the online features, in the least, and my friends also do. This just kills the experience.

The problem here is not, that we want bullshit the devs out of their money, it's that we have to pay for what we already own. If you buy a car you own it. That's that. Same here. When I buy a disc with a game I own every fucking 1 and 0 on it.

I get what you're saying and I think a better solution would be for devs to get a cut of used game sales and eliminate this system all together.

But as it is right now, why should the developer give a fuck about people who buy the game second hand when they aint seeing a penny out of em.

You are getting access to everything on the disc as well as online play (which costs money to run) should you buy the game new. However if you buy the game used you dont get access to that without paying which I think is pretty fair. Why should they pay for you to play online when you've given them nothing. Edit : Wait I've made it relate to your car analogy. Ok so yeah you buy the car (the disc) and you get everything in it including a little petrol (Online) but you still have to top that up....no wait this is more like MMO's. I'm gonna keep working on this.....

The reason why people are complaining is because it's an underhand sales tactic, most people here (icluding myself) would have got the game new anyway but that doesn't mean we don't have an opinion on the Pass just because it doesn't affect us.

Locking features away is despicable, instead of pretty much forcing anyone who wants to enjoy the full game developers should look to enticing people into buying new. Go down the Mass Effect 2 route and offer up some free DLC that you'd have to pay for if you brought it used. That way people have more of a reasonable choice. The DLC wouldn't have to be much, it could be two costumes and an extra fatality or something. Developers should offer something a little bit extra rather then holding an important part of the game for ransom.

I don't get how anyone can defend the pass system really, in order for a game to end up used it has to be brought new so developers still get profits. MKvsDC sold over a million copies and it was released in a particularly vicious holiday window, Given that the competition isn't as fierce in this game's release window and the fact that everyone's hyped for it and it's had strong showings everywhere and good press at every turn, MK9 should do the business. They shouldn't need to worry about the used market for the first few months as used games are always a rip off at the beginning since most I've seen are only a few pounds cheaper or sometimes I've seen used games cost more then new copies. Game developers make most of their profit in the initial months of a new release, by the time the used game's price becomes reasonable, the game would have made the majority of it's lifetime gross. It's just greed on WB's part.

It's the same shit as FIFA 11. When you buy the game new, you get an online pass that let's you play any online game modes with no restrictions.

But if you buy the game used or you borrow it from a friemd, that code no longer works. In order to play online, you have a 7-day trial or you can buy an online code for $9.99.

I'm sure everyone is getting the game new, so there's not really much to complain about.

Yes, the code comes on a slip that is kept in the case. So maybe 5 months after release, when the games price has dropped, if you can get your hands on a copy that hasnt been opened you'll still get a code.

Everybody seems to be missing one crucial detail.

For a game to be considered a used copy in the first place, someone would have to buy a new copy and trade it in.

So let's say someone buys the game new.

WB already got their all of their money from that original sale.

So now let's say that someone trades the game in. Someone buys it from Gamestop and, because he wants to play online,he has to pay an extra $10 for the fucking online unlock.

And then he decides to trade the game in. Someone else buys it. And because he wants to play online,he also has to pay an extra $10 for the fucking online unlock.

Every time the game goes back to the used game market,WB gets another $10 in sales from it,way beyond the original $60 that they made when the game was originally sold new.

Does anybody see how fucking ludicrous that is? Anybody?

They are trying to buttfuck you out of your money! And you're loving it! What the hell is wrong with you people?

Most games that require an online pass have been grey drudge shooters tha'ts only saving grace is multiplayer. Honesty, would anyone buy them for the mesmerising campaign alone? It's a cheap way to drain a little bit more for generic crap games. Fortunately I don't buy such games.

Looks like it's starting to spread though. Won't be long before every game has this unfortunately. Looks like I can't even loan it to my cousin to try. Not the online portion anyway.

I build houses for a living. I'm sick and tired of the greedy real estate market getting all the money when someone resells a house I built! I don't see a PENNY of that income!

But all that's about to change. See, I have invented a mechanism that drops heavy iron portcullises in front of every bathroom door if the homeowner doesn't input a "bathroom pass code." Of course, when I sell a house to a new owner, I'll give him the code for free, but when he resells the house, the new owner will have to contact me and pay a $500 fee for the code.

It's not really a big deal, you can still use the house, you just can't access the bathrooms. Probably a lot of people won't even care. And if you're spending $200,000 for a used home, what's another $500?

I thought at first that this idea wouldn't go over well with consumers, but now that I see you guys are so in favor of something that's pretty much the SAME DAMN THING, I know I can just go ahead and implement it on every new house I build! SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS! And that goes for games and homes.

lolno

I fucking hate Gamestop. It's their fault that Babbage's,EB Games and Funcoland all disappeared, and now I have to overpay assholes on Ebay if I want to buy a Genesis or a PSOne game.

Gamestop is a system built for screwing you out of every cent you're worth. But the thing is,if you get to know the system and learn how to take advantage of it,you can screw them right back and save a shitload of money in the process.

Activision will with high probability use Blizzards Battlenet for future games.

As I said in my original post... If you buy the game used for cheaper then pay for the pass.... You most likely will STILL be paying less than having to dish out $60 for a new copy. Sure you will be somewhat close to paying $60 so a new copy is more worth it but it is still a bit less for everyone who is complaining that they can't dish out $60.

They should be doing this so they finally make money off of their used game sales. As Stated before the servers will probably remain updated and so will the game with the money that comes from these passes.

Theres no way of knowing just yet. It'd be nice if installing the pass gave you some amount of DLC for free. Bad Company 2 did it that way, and It made needing an online pass a little bit easier to go along with.

you know, smackdown vs raw 2011 has that, when you buy that thing, and you get DLC's for free, or if you dont want to buy the whole thing you can pay for DLC's separately.

DLC will still probalby have to pay for them.

So pay for online for this game as well?
And I thought only EA games did that...proven wrong
hopefully other games don't start this trend since I personally usually go for used games when I can. I mostly buy games New if it's a game I REALLY want (example AC series)

Congratulation WB!

The sad thing is that greedy moves like this are the main reason why the warez community is growing..........

On the other hand I decided that enough is enough. After 20 years of being MK fan this will be the first MK which i will not buy. I'm sick of the greediness that's happening here. I wanted to buy your product but that was not enough for you. You want more money from me? You will not get a single penny. I'll not be a milking cow anymore. Midway was also greedy but not as much as you. Screw you WB!

What about free DLC? ME2 made you enter a pass to get onto the network and get the free DLC. If I remember right.
