The two things there that give me hope about it being a 2.5D game is his comment about having a copy of that video, and the fighting engine being very very different.
Am I the only one who actually enjoys 3D fighting games? I personally hope its 3D.

It's not that I don't enjoy 3D fighting games. I do enjoy games like Dead or Alive, Tekken, and the occasional Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur. But games such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, games with projectiles and what not, belong in 2D; It just works better.

I think 3D is cool but it kinda makes projectile attacks pointless.
One step and it misses you completely.
I'm not completely against the 2.5D idea, I'd just hope people don't think its a SF4 rip off.

I am all for 2.5D

I would like a classic MK style, with elements of MKvDC's engine with a bit of 3D DETAILS added.

(RT: @AppleUploader When are we going to see a teaser or something for MK9? Noobde: Soon...wish I could give you more info but eye can't. about 5 hours ago via web)

he said EYE instead of I. i wonder if that is a hint to a secret that will be on noob.com or whichever site they end up putting up.

he seems to be answering several questions related to MKNine every night. A nightly Q&A session would hold me over nicely untill an official announcement breaks. Lets see if he does it again tonight...

Ed's going bonkers with Twitter posts and slight MK9 details now and it pleases me greatly.

Guys, I think that Twitter is going to be a strong source of info this time around. Let's keep an "eye" out!! Hah

*wonder what that meant anyway
I dunno as much as I like Street Fighter I think that a 2D or a 2.5D Mortal Kombat game would be a step backwards for the series. I personally like being able to walk around a stage, pick up weapons, knock an opponent to another stage or knock them into a death trap. I would like to see the game 3D but have it like Tekken or Dead or Alive where you arent allowed to step in or out of the background and the game does it for you

I liked MkvsDC's 2.5D set up. The only thing concerning moving about in 360 degrees that I might have them change, is probably just making it harder to do (an odd//unusual control or something like that). That way projectiles make a difference more often. But again, I thought MkvDc struck a good balance anyway so.... idk

I wouldn't want it to look exactly like SF4, but I want it to be 2.5D.

MKvsDC was not 2.5D, despite most of the action taking place on a 2D plane. I don't want to be able to sidestep projectiles at all.

I'm hoping Boon and Co. realize what Capcom realized; that their fighter is better off in 2D.

I'm thinking Reptile is definitely in mk9.

"RT @MKEmpirescom and for the LOVE OF GOD... NO MKDA Reptile... take him back to Shaolin Monks. Noobde: Your wish is my command."

"RT: @Mk_Reptile is it possible to have human reptile in mk9 ? Noobde: Yes, its possible. My favorite version was in Shaolin Monks."

Yeah I just saw that too. I'm hoping we'll see something along the lines of MK:SM Reptile, but with a more detailed look to him.

If Reptile is in the game, that's another classic character/sacred cow to go along with Sonya, Kitana, Scorpion, Sub Zero, and I honestly don't see any way they'll do the next MK game without Rayden.

Not sure I like so many of the classics coming back but if it's done well, then I've got no problems.

I dunno if I like the idea of making something that's as basic as walking into and out of the foreground become more difficult to do. I get that alot of people think projectiles and 3D are inherently at odds with one another. Personally, I think that they can do both and do them well.

For one, you need to speed up projectiles, that might help. You can also make more projectiles in to 3D attacks. Didn't Shang Tsung have a sort of 3D fireball in either MK:DA or MKvsDC? I thought he did. You can also have certain projectiles be heat seeking. I also think that pro-move projectiles should follow toward the current path the character is on, so maybe the first one doesn't connect but maybe the second one might. Of course, in this vein, you could have a pro-move that has 4 projectiles, each one faster than the last.

The idea is to force the opponent to duck or block, thus mitigating some of (but not all of) the usefulness of the side step. So yeah, there are ways of making the projectile more useful in 3D.

But I'd also argue the necessity. For one, a good player can work in a projectile and make it hit. Secondly, isn't it just more realistic? I mean, I know that MK isn't like real life or whatever, but you're in a fighting tournament and people did have the power to, you know, throw fireballs, isn't sidestepping or dodging a pretty likely tactic? It's at least as likely as ducking under a projectile and a helluva lot more likely than holding your arms up to block against it.

I'm just saying that while there are several valid arguments for MK being in 2D, the fact that projectiles haven't proven as useful (thus far) shouldn't be one of them. Just because 2D had projectiles before and 3D hasn't perfected it yet, doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be done.

of course it doesnt. Ed boon is as cryptic as he is sarcastic. Even if Reptile is in the next game, none of this is actually him trying to tell us that he is.

It looks like reptile wil get his humanoid look. I hope it will look more like MK4 (IMO his best look) http://fightersgeneration.com/np5/char/reptile-mk4-b.gif His look in MKSM wasn't bad tough.
