yeah i agree with you predator. what you said was in the back of my mind and I didnt really realize it until you said that

Do you really want Scorpion, with the way he is now, to break his vow and to go after Sub-Zero yet AGAIN? How is that going to help Scorpion's story and character? How is Scorpion's involvement in Sub-Zero's storyline going to help Sub-Zero's storyline?

no, no, and it wouldn't necessarily help his story but maby the two of them somehow crossing paths would be cool. but like you and and predator have said they dont need to have a neverending battle. the rivalry was sweet but the overall storyline is messed up

Yea, it just encourages us to ask different questions about the characters, instead of being bound to this game because of one or two events that happened that we liked. That's all.

Y'know, I could have left MK alone when Raiden wasn't in MK3-UMK3. But that event didn't dictate other reasons why I like those game. It wasn't the sole attraction "or else"...dig?

totaly dude, i wont lie though cuz i would be pissed if my two favorites were gone. i was pretty young when mk3 was out and i didnt ever play it so i never knew scorpion wasnt in it. i played mk 2 at my friends and someone gave me trilogy for N64 when i was young. but whatever. there is way more to mk than sub zero and scorpion but i hope they stay forever.

i know its prolly a ramble talking about the same thing over and over again but im not really a good writer like you so its kind of hard to get my point across, but i get what you are sayin (think outside the box) haha

i would get rid of scorpion he isn't a really interesting character and i think they could make the noob saibot rivalry with sub zero a whole lot better if they worked on itgrin

I might be one of the few, but I could see a Sub-Zero vs. Scorpion rivalry actually being really cool if it were done in a good way. I wouldn't continue the storyline, but I would potentially follow a new one into it. For example:

Let's say Noob Saibot, Sareena, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are all back next game. Saibot wants to be evil and control things; Sub-Zero wants to stop his older brother; Scorpion needs to stop Noob Saibot, or else he will never see his family in The Heavens; and Sareena doesn't have a clue what she is going to do. Four very cool characters right there, and their stories each have their own conflicts and stuff, with Sub-Zero and Scorpion both not really paying much attention to the other -- until Sub-Zero gets to Noob Saibot first, and settles his brother's tainted spirit (perhaps with assist from Sareena).

So then, Scorpion is all "wtf dood?!? i totes had him, n now im kinda screwd. GET OVER HERE!!!!" Sub-Zero is all "Oh, damn, I sort of doomed myself to pissing off this relentless undead ninja ghost, didn't I?" Sareena is all "Yep."

Sub-Zero at first tries to respect Scorpion, and duck his challenge a bit, but Scorpion gets more and more relentless, and perhaps eventually kills Sareena. That doesn't sit well with Subby, who is all "I will freeze you with my new god-like powers! ICE, ICE, BABY!!!!" Scorpion can text back "um, bro, the older gods gav me champeen powers man." Then Sub-Zero might realise "Oh, damn, my Dragon Medallion gives me the power to defeat Scorpion, but it's making me older and older, and I'm becoming something...not quite human!" Scorpion is all "yeh, maybs u shud thro it away so ur weeker than me. muwahahahaha."

I dunno, I could see it being done in a way that is intriguing and somewhat different -- Scorpion being unreasonable in his hatred for Sub-Zero, and Sub-Zero sort of dooming himself by being too much of a hero.

Haha, thanks man.

One thing I am kind of intrigued about by Sub-Zero/Scorpion right now, is how they both canonically seem to be getting stronger. Sub-Zero found the Dragon Medallion and his Cryomancer ancestors' armour, and the general implication seems to be that he is becoming somewhat of an Ice God. Meanwhile, Scorpion was recruited by the Elder Gods, and while I'm not sure anything officially has been stated on this, you'd have to assume that the Gods would give him some kind of "power boost."

Assuming they did, then you're essentially getting two beings approaching deity-level powers, who started off as ninjas working for menial reasons. If you look at the symmetry between their stories (and Sub-Zero's has been handled a lot better than Scorpion's), both characters do seem to be stumbling into power.

We'll pretty much be seeing Sub-Zero and Scorpion continue on. There is no need for them to have a rivalry again. The only way I would want them to do anything with each other is if they have a common enemy in Noob Saibot. That's pretty much it. Aside from that, they should still be separate from each other. Scorpion's story (and character) needs a lot of fixing while Sub-Zero's story needs to unfold in terms of what is truly ahead for him.

Pretty much what he said wink

I would like for Scorpion to finally get his revenge by killing off Quan Chi and then find his peace and be put to rest, never to be seen again, where as with Sub-Zero, he should stay alive and thrive as the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei after having taken down Sektor. That's what I hope for those two characters.

Well, since the bump hasn't gotten the thread closed yet...

How dare you try to get Quan Chi killed, you meanie?

Anyhoo, the rivalry between Scorpion and Quan Chi can never end that way, because Scorpion is undead and Quan Chi has no soul (as revealed in Baraka's ending in MK Gold), therefore neither of them can be killed.

Maybe this time around the Elder Gods won't be dicks and they'll actually give Scorpion his family back.

Whoa, I thought this was alot more recent. Didn't realize it was bumped all the way form 2009. :S

Anyways. I really stopped liking Quan Chi since the new game. He should die, like, be gone forever and take Scorpion with him. Never to be seen again. An impossible dream, I know, but a dream none the less.

Aww, Quan Chi is cool! sad

But I'm all for getting rid of Scorpion. To me, he has become the most pointless character in the series, excluding Hsu Shao. Now it seems the only reason Scorpion's in any of the games is simply because he's Ed Boon's favorite character. Every few years NRS finds another person for Scorpion to be pissed off at just to keep him in the game. First it was Sub-Zero, then Quan Chi, and now it's the Elder Gods. REALLY!? The Elder Gods!? I mean, yeah they're total assholes, but still.

Scorpion needs to change his freakin' tampon and find some inner peace or some shit.

i'm pretty sure neither of those 2 characters would be gone but if i did have to lose 1 it would be sub - zero. because i think frost could take his place. she's younger more things the nrs could improve apon her.

what's with all the scorpion hate. i know his story hasn't been good lately but his look and moves have been signifcantly better with each installment. i may be a little impartial because scorpion used to be my fav mk character. now he's my 2nd. i enjoy reptile more lately.

For me, when it comes to Mortal Kombat, appearance and moves mean nothing if the character serves little to no purpose in the story. That's why I've been able to overlook Kitana's previous dumb movesets and costumes. Her story is why I like her.

But hey, we all have our preferences.

Sub-Zero is obviously my favorite so of course I would choose Sub-Zero to stay over Scorpion.

However, I have to say even if I wasn't a fan of Sub-Zero, I would still pick him over Scorpion. As far as story goes, Scorpion has always been a part of Sub-Zero's story, not the other way around.

Basically, I think Scorpion could be done away with. Also, I don't agree that Sub-Zero can be replaced by Frost. That's just a no. It's all based on the whole Ice thing and I don't think that's right. Frost is nothing but a footnote in Sub-Zero's history, and I don't think she has more to work with either.

Let's see her story revolves around power hungry woman looking to destroy her superior in order to take their spot, Basically she would stab him in the back. Where have we seen that before? Oh, I don't know Tanya or Rain ring any bells?

In all honesty Scorpion or Sub-Zero neither one should ever leave mortal kombat as much as some people may hate them. Saying Frost is on the level of Sub-Zero though just baffles me in a way. Take Kitana, cut her hair off, and give her ice powers. BAM, there's Frost for you. Nothing original at all. She's at the tops of the characters I hope stay gone in the next game actually. Unfortunately she was a spotholder in MK9 which means we will probably be seeing her again in the future.

I never want to see Scorpion go.

What would be cool is if Scorpion got his vengeance, but somehow got rewarded with a second chance at life.

IMO, having him be his human self in the games would be fun.

Scorpion was initially meant to be the "hunted" and Sub-Zero the "hunter" in John Tobiased's (IIRC) sketches so naturally this thing kept on in Mortal Kombat 9. I hope that a change will come to this in Mortal Kombat 10 however where actually something new is brought up. Scorpion was plain silly when he didn't take the opportunity to revive Shirai Ryu in MK9.

...As a side note, the scriptwriters could also stop favoring Quan Chi.

He was more cunning than Shao Kahn (only not as powerful) but I believe that in order to kill Quan Chi you must turn his underlings against him and in this case – as everyone has hoped for – Scorpion. I could almost assure you that Quan Chi won't go out without a bang nevertheless.
