The Announcers voice

Hi there,
I'm one of the many MK fans that have longed to see MK return to its former glory. I have high hopes that this new game might capture the essence and atmosphere of MK1-MK3.

Some aspects that I love about the 2d games and that add to their greatness in my opinion have been missing from MK for a long time. There are a large number of these and I'm sure you have your own ( the secrets, the music, sektor and cyrax's robotic sounds, characters that dont look like they are on steroids etc).

But the one aspect that I'm concerned about, and that I would love to see return most, is the announcer's/Shao-Kahn's voice(Steve Richie). Now some of you might think that this is no big deal but in order for the new MK to have that old skool feel, I think it is essential that the old announcer returns. There is nothing like hearing "Nightwolf wins" in MK3!

So basically, the small things also matter to me. The new announcer is really irritating and sounds like some fat dude trying to sound like the devil or something.

Any thoughts?

I love the announcer used in the more recent games.
Sometimes I just sit there going through the characters cos I think it sounds cool lol.

Yeah I would definately like to see Shao Kahn's MK3 voice back. It just sounds a lot more menacing and dark then the one that's in the most recent games.

'Nightwolf Wins' haha, yeah that one sounds great.

agreed, these little things matter. There a lot of little things that remind me too much of the last games. The announcer is one of them.

Right now, it sounds really forced and bulky. Acting dark and menacing, but really isn't..they should let the MK 2, 3 dude or someone with a similar voice do it.

well ed boon said that in the new mk9 that he might make the orginal annoucer be an unlockable, its in an interview. Think its gametrailers interview where he mentions it.

And I don't like anouncer's voice in MKD-MKvsDC.

I agree. The new anouncer really feels like acting. The original from MKII/MK3 was way much better. I always loved the way he said "... shows mercy". For that alone I want the mercy feature back in.

Since it was also the voice of Shao Kahn, I'm hoping for a lot of comments from him. No one could say "You will die, mortal!" or "Don't make me laugh" like that (or the other phrases). That is one of the most fun things about fighting against Shao Kahn: beating the crap out of him with almost no result, except giving a bunch of phrases which pisses you off even more. I love it!

haha lol true that. I hate (or love) it when you're kicking his ass...pulling combo's, giving uppercuts...and then he gives you like 3 blows in a row and your dead..and the last thing you hear is... "Is That Your Best?"

Dammit! hahah

The new announcer for this is clearly Shao Kahn, just not Steve Ritchie who voiced him for MK2/MK3/MKSM. Its definitely not Herman Sanchez either. I love the Shao Kahn voice this time around.

From the vids I saw the announcer's voice was not that clear. I might take another look. I would love Richie to reprise the role however.

It definitely sounds like it's just Herman Sanchez again.

And Ritchie didn't do the voice in MKSM.

I really liked the announcer from MKvsDC which is the one they are using at the moment because its an early build but it needs to change a little to fit with the new tone of the game.

I'd like something closer to Imotep's pre-human voice in The Mummy movies. It's manufactured...sure, but it's a hell of alot better than these latest renditions in MK. It's a booming, sort of terrifying voice, that Imotep.

I want something really menacing. The one we've been getting since like MK4 sounds like crap iMo. Doesn't sound human, or animalistic. Just sounds like a smoothed out, and deepened recording of someones (any random persons) voice. Like they let a kid play around with pro-tools and a mic for a day or something.

I just want more effort put into it i guess. Should have humanistic properties that stand out the most, with back-up properties in it that sound animal-like. Or maybe like a dead persons vocal cords would sound if they were zombified and brought back to life to speak to us.

Haven't heard what they got for this game so, idk. But I hope it's good.

The announcer voice never really bothered me tbh. I have no issues with the current trend, and quite honestly lol I didn't know the guys name that did mkll-lll etc. Steve Ritchie.
