The newly revealed Shadow Priests look great - a top pick for DLC?

Would that be the one I already posted a screencap of on page 1, or a different one?

In the Church stage?
I haven't seen a floating MK2-style one there. Just the standing guys in the funny hats.

Well if you can find me a screenshot of the Temple with a floating guy instead of a funny hat guy, I'd love to see it, because I literally have not ONCE seen that and I'm pretty sure I've looked at every screenshot and video that's been posted on MKO.

The shadow priests look badass in the Soul Chamber. They have close resemblance to Noob Saibot and as mentioned, they might be related through the Brotherhood of Shadow.
However, I've always seen the shadow priests as immortal (or at least close to immortal) beings who cannot interfere with mortals. In MK Conquest, non-canon as it may be, they were Kahn's last resort and couldn't be touched (literally) by any of Kahn's enemies, including Shang Tsung. That sort of adds to the image I have of them. So I certainly don't want them to be playable.

In Conquest the only one that could hurt them was Raiden, he had an easy time with the one he took out though.

I'd suggest just making the Shadow Priest's outfits a costume for Noob or Quan Chi to wear instead of a separate character.
Besides, no love for these guys?

Hmmm could work as a new character but I think they would need a decent fleshed out story to make them some way relatable. Perhaps one of them is outcast because he spends more time focusing on the fights taking place or something. Another thing is with the huge robe they wouldnt look great performing moves so maybe they could make it ripped or burnt in some way, which would also distinguish him from the others.
I'm actually not that impressed with the newly revealed "Shadow Priests" in Kabal's video.
That being said, I absolutely love the Shadow Priests characters and they really did an awesome job with them in MKSM.
I can totally see them as fighters for the game. They don't necessarily have to play as the rest of the characters (legs and arms). Have the kicks be replaced by attacks featuring their robes.
Their robes could be animated to deliver the killer attacks that kicks are supposed to deliver.
Punches could easily be implemented even if it might look a bit out of character. Maybe special effects were they create punch like attacks without actually punching?
I'd totally love 1 as a special playable character.
Regarding the look, I prefer the classic style. The new ones look more like "Brotherhood of the Shadow" members. But, maybe Shadow Priests do look very different and don't necessarily dress the same way.
These are quite awesome and better looking, imo. How can anyone forget them?

The above (+MKSM) being my favorite look for them. Much more mysterious and cool, imo.
Cool thread.

For some reason I think this guy looks cute and adorable. I dunno if it's the fox mask or the oversized pants hiding his feet, but he doesn't have that badass warrior vibe to him...
The Shadow Priest was always a cool concept, but they looked rather boring and dull... They just wore black hooded robes and levitated. However, in the Kabal trailer, they look alot cooler than before.
I'd like to know more about these NPC's. The guardsmen, the shadow priests, even the tarkatans...

I definitely see what you mean by "cute". I get that vibe too (specially when fighting them in MKSM), however, I absolutely find them awesome.
Still, they look cute.
I too want to learn more backstory on the NPC's. It adds to the rich world of MK.

It's official, the shadow specters are MK9's Shadow Priests. Check out this screen capture of the MK2 Evil Tower from the new TV ad:

I like Shadow priests as background characters. I wouldn't want them as DLC for this game. Maybe in the future? But There are many characters who have names and backgrounds that should have a spot first and foremost. I think Rain, and maybe a few MK4 characters. I also think that bringing Sareena, Kia, and Jataaka would come before a shadow priest. I think they would be good DLC choices. I also think that Tremor (Which Boon even said would not be for DLC, has a better shot) lol
There are some characters that are best as background characters, and nothing more. The shadow preist is one of them. Unless they end up making a superior version of them, and giving it a name and story for a future installment of the game.
