My God I loved this episode. There's just stuff wrong with it.

*see Razor, Chrome, Garlador, and others* I agree with them.

Also, I will die if I can't have the full tracks of these episodes.

Also, Also... I thought that Quan Chi morphed and immediately resurrects Scorpion was the worst part. I wish they'd had time and resources for a segue burial scene, and a hell/netherrealm scene where Quan Chi finally is able to get his hands on Scorpion. That's what seemed to be missing from this thing the most and it seemed too swift and easy the way it happened here.

I'm pretty dissappointed with Scorpion's resurrection.

I always pictured him being killed, then it cutting to Scorpion's eyes shooting open, now in hell, and him being tortured and stuff, unable to breathe feeling like he's burning alive. Then you see the air begin to clear up and he stops burning as Quan Chi appears. Then Quan Chi makes the deal with him and blah blah blah.

Otherwise, the actor who played Quan Chi was good, this episode was linked to the tournament (Which is good), but it was a little too short (As most of these two-part episodes were) and doesn't really feel rewarding waiting a week for it.

thats sad that his family died just so Quan Chi can have him in the tournyment. so if u played the story on the game Sub-Zero said he didnt do it. i hope he kills Quan Chi. and i didnt know Quan Chi can morph too.furious

Don't understand some of the criticisms people are leveling at this episode.

Quan Chi's voice was fine.. it was a creepy, cunning voice.. not a boastful, overconfident voice from the game nor the legendary Adoni Maropis. Such a voice would look campy on the big screen.. here was an actor who was doing his own thing, and I'm fine with that.

To complain about the lengths.. a) its free, b) Machinima and Warner Brothers decide the episode splits, not the director

For a series with a budget of Wayy less than most 20min tv series get for 1 episode, and with only like 3 months from start of filming to get it out there, I think they've done an amazing job..

Yes, they'll never keep everyone happy.. but Annihilation listened to the self proclaimed "fan boys" (different to real fans).. included everything they wanted, and look where that took you..

Enjoy it for what it is.. majority of fans and people who have seen it enjoy it (kitana/ mileena had 80% likes.. the rest have all had over 90%).. but yeah, chillax about the nitpicking.. play MK2011 if you want a pristine telling of events

Not bad episode in general.
Fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero could be cool, but it was ruined by editing and slow-mo.
I liked Scorpion's ressurection - simple, yet spectacular.
As for the plot - I liked it. Aside from the fact that Shang Tsung was thrown in the mix. But actually I could be OK with this.
After scene where Scorpion witneses his dead family, I think there must not be any questions about his behaviour in MK9. I am talking about emotional side of things, not MKL canonicity now.

Quan Chi looks creppy as hell.

But the first part of the episode was better.

I wonder how battle sequences with Sektor and Cyrax will look like.

I agree. I KNOW it has it's flaws (big ones, even), but I also know that there WAS a huge rush to make it and that it had a very, very low budget. Even the actors were going "we got a call, and the next day we were shooting".

It's AMAZING for what it is, and I commend them for doing so much with so little time and resources.

What it DOES make me want is a full-blown movie with a big budget to fix most of the problems a web-series format entails. The Scorpion vs Sub-Zero episode in particular was AMAZING and epic, but it makes me wish there was an entire two hour movie or 40-minute, 12-episode network series focused entirely on Hanzo and Bi Han, their families, their battles, and their tragic fates. What this feels like is an insanely good teaser of all that remains to be said and done.

Still, it's insanely impressive how good the quality of this series is considering its shoe-string budget, and the fact that it was very close to not happening at all.

In fact, I think it's already been confirmed to be one of the most successful web series ever, with every single episode thus far garnering over 2 million views within a few weeks. That's mighty impressive and the reaction amongst many fans, and even non-fans, has been very, very positive. Reading the comments for this newest video on youtube makes me smile as people are raving about how good it is, even as us hardcore fans nitpick.

The entire series I call a flying success, regardless of what you think of the quality. It's a different, but so far beloved, spin on the MK mythos so many of us know by memory, and it's pulled in a brand new audience that might otherwise have never given it a second look. It did exactly what it set out to do.

I guess my big issue is that Quan Chi offers Scorpion the chance to fight for the Netherrealm, but Shang Tsung is there (employed by Shao Kahn of Ouworld). How is that sensible? Is Shang working in the shadows against Kahn? Just because Kahn is evil and Quan Chi is evil doesn't make them all allies, and it never really has in the game storylines.

As much as I love Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, it seems every time they are together Shang is made to look like a dunce because everyone who writes prefers Quan Chi for some reason. As my favorite character and villain, seeing Shang as a pathetic lackey (in all but the Cage episode) makes me a bit unhappy.

My thoughts exactly regarding the general 'submission' of Shang in comparison to Quan.

When it comes to the 'Netherrealm-Outworld' incompatibility thing, though, I don't think Kahn and Quan Chi (or Shinnok, whichever representative of Hell one prefers) are unable to become allies, nor do they disdain each other. I'd say it's simply as in MK 2011 story: Kahn has allied himself with Quan Chi so as to make his conquest easier, rewarding Quan Chi with a pack of souls (of chosen warriors). Kahn thought of it all as of a mere transaction, he cleared the path for Shinnok's forces due to having been fooled, not by his intention.

I think that happens as Shao Kahn has his plans for Sindel, and needs Quan Chi.. he doesn't need Tsung, so Tsung is always going to be second to Quan Chi.

Also, Quan Chi is Lucifer.. well Shinnok's right hand man, a demon necromancer who has existed for eons.. Shang Tsung is a mortal who now fights for Outworld. So Quan Chi wins on rank too

I've really enjoyed the series so far. These stories lead into the first game, so they are going to be very short as they are precursors to the main saga. Considering the known budget and timescales, they seem to have done a very good job.

The music to that fight scene was amazing. I think the director is doin alright for having a low budget but if there were to be a movie made I hope he fight scenes are longer.

Quan morphin threw me off.... I mean Shang is right there. Was Hanzo slowly freezing to death after he got frozen. His resurrection was lame.

When scorpion said get over here. I had a nerdgasm.

K, misconception by people..
Shang and Quan Chi spoke so openly coz the village was dead.. the Lin Kuei had retreated, sent off by Shang Tsung.. and Scorpion was DEAD.. he's frozen to death.. the sword through his heart ensured that..

Chi's words unlocked his spirit and returned him from the Netherealm..

Easily the episodes that showed the most potential, but still less than brilliant. Really mediocre way to rationalize the working parts of this story.

This episode could use a minute or so more of dialog. It seems most fans just want more than 4 minutes of their favorite characters on screen. Another 120 seconds of dialog is free.

Shang Tsung has nothing to gain from this why is he here?

Well IMO, on this continuity, and probably the reason of all the plot could be simple:

Earthrealm doesn't have any well known warrior appart of Sub-Zero. Liu Kang is the most powerful but before the first tournament he was an unknown rookie that excelled with the White Lotus very fast, but no one could wonder his potential before.

On the other hand, Subby is apparently the only one from Earth with SuperPowers, something that gives him a serious advantage (the others include a special agent, an actor that seems to be able to throw green things but is considered an actor, not someone training to defeat shokans, the mentioned rookie monk, etc... even Hanzo lacked superpowers before the transformation). So putting on the tournament someone that will do his best to kill Sub-Zero is something that Shang Tsung would be interested in.

It would also be the reason explaining Quan Chi's omnipresence on MK2011, if not for the Lin Kuei being hired by Shang Tsung so on that game Subby wasn't really a threat for him (unless the Lin Kuei really wanted to kill Shang and were just feigning an agreement on his terms).

Goes way, WAY down hill when Sub turns into Quan Chi. The Subbie/Scorpion rivalry is one of the best parts of the series, to replace Sub with Quan at that crucial moment is soooo fucking stupid. It would have been so easy to just say Quan hired Sub Zero and/or participated in the murder of Scorpion's family to ensure making Quan Chi the big bad Scorpion villain.

And WHY the fuck was Shang Tsung in this episode?! Do him and Quan Chi carpool when committing evil deeds??? Fuck that shit.

Also I think it would have been way better if they just left out scorpion's resurrection all together instead of doing it in ten seconds. They could have used that to explain the whole time gap thing, like Quan Chi doesn't choose to use Scorpion until hundreds of years later when Earth is close to losing ten consecutive tournaments.

However, HORRIBLE plotting, storyline changes, and dialog aside the fight scene was awesome. For once it didn't come off as too outrageously cheap or tacky. Its just a shame the rest of the episode was spent watering down its epicness.

Some of you guys are nitpicking wayyyy too much.....

As a general MK fan (been a MK fan since I was 7 when MK1 came out) who doesn't really follow each and every single story line, I thought this episode was fantastic.

Anybody know all the songs used in that episode?

BTW, I am a big fan of Ian and hes a great Scorpion but the guy playing Sub Zero did a fantastic job.

And Quan Chi is creepy as hell.

I give up. I've been so optimistic and positive about this series this far, but now I just can't. I have to admit that it's been pretty terrible. I never want to see this particular writer/ director make a big budget MK movie. I loved the Rebirth trailer, and thought this guy had a lot of potential. He blew his chance here for me. If he does more MK related projects, sure I'll watch them, but I would rather see something done by someone else.

Also Shang Tsung and Quan Chi looked like a homosexual couple. I didn't like the portrayal of Quan Chi either, like the rest of you. He seemed like a typical b-movie faggy villain. Blah.

I agree. This series was way too rushed and too short. It's definitely an MK fan pleaser, but it doesn't hold up to Rebirth's fame. Every episode is so bittersweet as it leaves off in a cliffhanger and the next episode is just the last 2 minutes of what could've been attached to the first part in the 1st place.

I honestly don't know how I'd feel about KT directing a new MK franchise. He's doing too many different cinematic styles for each chapter. How would a film as a whole look? Ya know? Too much going on and so little actually happening.

Not the best show in the world but I like it. Come on season 2. Hopefully this can be converted to an actual series by a premium network. That way gore can ensue unlike regular broadcasting.
