i'm talking about characters that make the cut for the first time in mk2:

SHAO KAHN: i'm sick and tired of him, however i have some kind of respect for him,'cause he is the the main villain troughout mk2 and mk3.He have also a important role as a "good" characters in mk deception.
However he fight hundreds of enemies and almost always lost(even tough he should be "invincible"):he gets his ass kicked by liu kang twice,he does not kill Onaga and he will be destroyed after armageddon.
Don't know how huge his fanbase is,however for what i know he will die.
NO shao kahn in mk8 to me.

KINTARO: i actually think that we need at least one shokan and centaurin mk8.One of the best thing in mk storyline is the "races war":human vs outworldians, monks vs tarkatans, centaurs vs shokans, raptors vs outworldians, etc. However i think that all three shokans(goro, kintaro and sheeva) have to die.I'm sorry for kintaro,he is interesting, but his storyline was underrated.I think that he had to make the cut in mk deception, and not goro.

MILEENA:i never liked her, even tough her sexy look is cool, she doesn't resemble to a warrior at all.Sonya, jade and kitana are better in every single aspect.Mileena will die at hands of kitana

KITANA: my 2nd favourite female warrior, she have to return,as queen of edenia.however her role in the storyline is pretty doubtful:she can get involved into the storyline or get a secondary role.she will survive.

REPTILE:even tough he was also in mk1,he is playable for the first time in mk2.Cool moves, cool fatalities but he was the same pathetic palette swap character.
from mk4 he is a very cool characers, one of the minor villains but very attractive.I'm not surprised that even tough he is a monster he have a huge fanbase. One of my fav, tough is not on my top ten list.He MUST return

SMOKE: i love him,one of my fav.of the three cyborg smoke is the one i love
the most. However his cybrg storyline and "suffering" for being soulness hasn't been used in the best way possible.for this,i'm afraid he won't retunr in mk8.

JADE: i love her,she should return.it depends on kitana:if she comes back to fight jade will die or have a secondary role;if kitana will stay on the throne jade will retunr,as a warrior of course

BARAKA:we need other tarkatans,but not a female one.i don't like mileena,so i don't understand why i should like another female tarkatans.
However i generally like the tarkatans 'cause their nomadic popolations and are violent, brutal and....bastard!and in the mk universe be violent, brutal and bastards is a good thing.the tarkatans will return in the konquest mode as regular villains(like shaolin monks) goign troughout outworld without a leader.

JAX: i never liked him, however i loved lynn williams in the second movie.maybe he was too americanized, and we already have johnny cage to fit this role.Jax's characters is not that bad,but i never liked him as persona and attitude.in mk3 he had his role, but was pretty anonimous.
in mkda he was some kind of stryker rip off.of the two,i prefer stryker,my third fav character.jax vill die or return as a evil cyborg.he will die at the hands of sonya or johnny cage.

KUNG LAO: strange,isn't it?
he was a little liu kang with a razor sharped hat in k2 and mk3.Almost noone loved him and in mk3 he dies at the hands of shao kahn. However for the dreamcast exclusive game, kung lao returns and he was just bloody beaten shao kahn,he was just heavily wounded but not dead.
He return to fight against goro to redeem his ancestor honor. However(and this si idiotical) the two shook hands. This is ridicoulus.
also in mkda he is finally the main hero, but he lose against shang tsung.
maybe liu kang was a better choice...maybe...surely a better choice.
then he is resurrected by onaga and enslaved.in mk unchained jax had a more important role than him and this is just abysmal.
in mk armageddon he shouldn't have a great role, and he gets his ass kicked by baraka in the intro movie.
cage is better in any other way than kung lao:he should kill goro, not kung lao;he should be the 2nd most important character after the main hero, not kung lao;he should survive, and kung lao dying.
i want kung lao dead just because i hate him.
Mehem...

-Baraka
Die. Just die so that a better successor can take your place, B-man. You were fun while you lasted.

-Mileena
If she comes back, something new should happen. . .like going insane. Like Bloody Mary from Twisted Metal Black.

-Kung Lao
Kinda neutral. If he returns, he should be the new hero. If he dies, at least keep a monk character available.

-Kitana
She would do more good if she becomes new queen of Edenia and retires from fighting.

-Jax
The cyborg idea is kinda cool, but maybe out of place. If he survives, he should be promoted. Oh, and the arms become another tool for the Tekunin/Noob's cyborg demon army.

-Reptile
Let him get his happy ending with Kahmeleon. He'll do no harm.

-New Sub-Zero
He definitely stays. I would like to delve more into his relationship with Sareena. Could turn out some cool things.

-Shao Kahn
Keep him for all that is holy, or unholy. If he dies, at least make him a fearsome influence for some future villain.

-Kinatro
In the middle, but leaning towards death. If a Shokan appears for MK8, NO MORE FIRE POWERS!

Since nobody ever really talks about graphics, Here's a brief desire:

I want the graphics to be an obvious nod to Mk2, in the future somewhere. Photo-Realistic is super cool and all(understatement, it needs to be there too, just like Mk1-2-3), but as of late, all developers are really trying to get at, is to get darker, and bloodier. Or scarier...

So in direct relation to the Mk2 roster, I'd like for any of them that returns, to at least be inspired by how colorful Mk2 was. With those vibrantly colored costumes again. "Simple complexities" they were, which helped distinguish characters more obviously, and helped build the nostalgia(imo).

*The yellow one is him, the purple one is her, the green one can do all this or, the guy with the hat is him...ect..

Anyway, I hope they use Mk1, Mk2-MkT, & MkSm as a concept model for "where Mk graphics should be going".....cuz any of the other games I had to take like a pill with no swig of water.

This doesn't exclude the color in all the arenas either, but you get me...Mk2 was very vibrant. I want to see the improvements of that success on current consoles.

bleh..

She didn't debut in MK2. The topic isn't currently on her, so why are you even bringing her up? To answer your question anyway, I say no.

Now for the overall MK2 stuff, I'm going to break it down like this:

Kung Lao I like Kung Lao quite a bit, but I hate his MKSM self. I want him to at least survive. If he continues to the next-gen games, he could take on the mentor/teacher role and/or he could step up to becoming the main hero or something like that. If he doesn't return, he can be an NPC and still be a mentor/teacher character or just trying to find peace in his life.

Reptile: I don't dislike Reptile, but I feel that he's had his run. I don't see any real point in him coming back, and I'd rather just have his story end with some bit of happiness (e.g. getting it on with Khameleon, Raptor style!). If he returns, his story needs to take a new path, and he needs character development.

Sub-Zero: Obviously being my favorite character, I of course want him to return. I think there needs to be a kind of simultaneous build up and unfolding with his next-gen storyline. I'd like to see exploration into his Cryomancer ancestors and possibly tie that into his story.

I definitely want him to interact with characters such as Sareena, and perhaps we could see exploration into his character and relationships with other characters. Overall, he still has a lot of potential, imo, and it's just a matter of really exploring it. If he doesn't return, that would be very disappointing, but they should at least do it right and not make it half-assed and meaningless.

Kitana: I like Kitana, but I'm kind of iffy on her return. At the very least, she should have a very integral part in Shao Kahn's destruction. She could be an NPC in the next-gen story, but if she does return, her story needs to take an interesting path, with character development involved. I don't want her to become the new Queen of Edenia, at least not right away.

If she's going to step up as Queen of Edenia, it should be at the end of her next-gen storyline. She definitely needs character exploration, especially when it comes to her dark side. There are different paths she could take. Overall, if they aren't going to do anything worthwhile with her, she should just be alive but be an NPC.

Jax: I definitely don't want Jax to return. He's had his run, and save for his more recent story bits, he hasn't had any real character development. I still say he was at his best during his debut in MK2. The whole ghetto thing really screwed him up, but then again, the whole shirtless thing was rather off in the first place. I mean, he's supposed to be a Major in the U.S. Special Forces. I just want him to die and stay dead. If he returns, they should explore his anger problem and him being a loose cannon. I admit that I do like what XiahouDun84 did with his character, but even then, I feel that Jax is undeserving to return.

Mileena: I definitely want Mileena to return in the next-gen MKs, and they need to make sure to step her up, still having her crave power and surpass Kitana. They should be careful not to fall into the trap of having a redundant rivalry with Kitana. If they are going to have the two interact, there should be an interesting dynamic developed between them, maybe even having Mileena get to Kitana on a psychologica/mental level.

Mileena definitely needs to ditch Baraka, because she just doesn't need him. Thankfully it kind of seems that way already, which is great. Overall, she has good potential. Perhaps part of her story can involve her trying to find a way to fix her face. If she doesn't return, that'd be a bit disappointing.

Baraka: Simply put, he's had his run. Sure, some may argue that any character can become greatly improved with enough imagination and effort. However, I feel that Baraka just isn't worth having back. While he can be fun to play as, when you look past his gimmicks, he's a very shallow and 1-dimensional character who has a relatively redundant story that involves serving a powerful, evil master. Although a fan favorite, his character is disposable. I personally don't care for the Tarkata as they all seem so much alike.

Jade: Although I like Jade, I'm iffy on her return. A bigger part of me wants to see her return and have exploration and character development, stepping her out of Kitana's shadow. However, it's more likely that they would either kill her off or continue to have her be in Kitana's shadow. If they aren't going to do anything important and worthwhile with Jade, she might as well die off. But if she returns, then like I said, she needs to step out of Kitana's shadow and really develop as a character.

Kintaro: Although I don't hate him, he's just not needed. He didn't have much of a story to begin with, and his MKA ending didn't do anything to help give potential. The 4 magical swords thing is just a big joke. If he does return, the character needs exploration and development. His story path needs to be something interesting and fresh instead of something typical and boring.

Shao Kahn: I like him a lot, but I feel that it's better for him to be killed off. If he does return, his story needs to take a new path, and he shouldn't be the main boss anymore.

With all that said, I look forward to talking about the MK3 characters.

Seriously, are you in love with Tanya or something? We're talking about MK2 characters.

A long time ago, I actually had a really weird idea involving Tanya. I remember this one thread where people were talking about how lame it was that Liu Kang and Kitana had this so called true love but never consumated their relationship. Afterwards, I tried to imagine a relationship that was the complete opposite; two characters that are having kinky fun sex, but totally hate each other. The image to came to mind was Tanya... with Shang Tsung. Remember how they introduced Tanya in MKD by having her betray the deadly alliance (because she was working for them all along in MKDA, we just didn't know it)? I was thinking that you could expand on that element by saying Tanya and Shang Tsung were having sex, and then afterwards Tanya was making plans with Onaga. I think it actually makes sense because they're both completley selfish characters that would want to satisfy their "eartherly urges" even though they don't love or even trust each other.

I don't why I mentioned that, maybe it belongs in that stupide "Nudity in MK8" thread.

Liu kang: Please die. Actually, just stay dead in the first place, would yah?

Kung Lao: I'm not a fan, but I'd be willing to compromise if bringing him back would keep Liu Kang dead.

Johny Cage: Well he was just a gag character anyway, and I think it's good to have one gag character. Even you don't like playing him, you kinda still like fighting him because you get the chance to punch his pretty boy face in. I'm sure we'll see hime again.

Reptile: He's been surprisingly interesting lately. The poor guy needs some friends though. The guy has a long list of enemies, but not really any allies.

Sub-zero: Obviously a great character. There's one thing that's been driving me crazy about this guy, and that was the ending in MKD. You all know it: "Long Live the Dragon King." That's gotta mean something important, and I'll be really PO'd if it was just a gag/fake out. There's also alot of other things about Sub-Zero that seem to relate to magical lizards; the fighting style, the dragon medallion, the armor all include dragon elements. My theory, the cryomancers were founded when a frost dragon got funky with a human (my mind is in the gutter tonight). I'm suggesting that Sub-zero's elemental power might be the cause of having a little bit of dragon in his blood.

The other questions we need to know all relate to the poorly named cyromancers. I would speculate that the civilazation fell apart due to greed because we know that 2 out of 3 of our cyromancers are power hungry monsters, so part of what Sub-zero needs to be thinking about is whether there is something fundamentally corrupting about being a cryomancer. Is sub-zero the proof that power doesn't corrupt absolutely?

Shang Tsung: He's needs to come back, and a lot more powerful at that. In MK Conquest, he was described as being originally from earthrealm which is something I want to know more about, personally. I think for the immediate future, he should stay working with Quan Chi, forming their own nation and a stakeholder in the future of outworld. In my imagination outworld will be ruled over by 5 or less different factions that constantly war with each other, and the deadly alliance should be one of them.

Kitana: a very good character, but she's seems to be getting a little dull. I want her stay, but I don't really have a plan for what to do with her.

Jax: Well, he's progressed quite a bit from simply being the worlds strongest man, but his story has progressed in strange and lame directions. I hope he doesn't become a cyborg, but it might be nice to see him go rogue for the purpose of hunting down Sektor. Remember that stargate episode where Teal'c went rogue: same deal.

Mileena: Very sexy in all the most disturbing ways. She's a seductress with a nasty surprise for boys who like oral. Now that I think of it, her relationship with baraka is really a better example of the opposite of Liu Kang and Kitana. The whole Mileena taking kitana's place is getting a little old, so it would be nice to see her go in a new direction.

Baraka: This is a character I want to die, and I know that might sound a little hypocritical because I defend Shang Tsung by saying he's one of just two sorcerers. I know baraka is the only tarkatan in the game, but I would actually embrace the genocide of that entire species. There I said it. All these guys do is cause nothing but trouble so what emperor in their right mind would keep these guys around? There's only one solution to these guys, and it should be final.

Scorpion: I have a very specific idea for Scorpion. I think it was interesting to see him as the champion of the elder gods, and now I think it would be interesting to become the avatar of a specific elder god. When I say avatar, I mean that he would merger his soul with a elder god and becomes the next best thing to being a god himself. The reason I have for this to take place is that one of the elder gods, such as the god of death, approaches him with an offer.

"If you serve me and me alone, I'll treat you better than the rest of the elder gods kinda deal."

This god then delivers on the promise made by the other elder gods by alowing Scorpion to spend his down time in heaven with his family until he gets a call from his god. I also think this God should actually be a Goddess of fire or death. Anything that allows scorpion to continue with his current storyline but stay true to that dark wrath nature that makes scorpion awesome.

I think this would also be interesting because it would show that the elder gods aren't the united force we think they are, and that there is some kind of mysterious conflict between them. What kinda tasks does this elder god want scorpion to accomplish? Welll, I'm not quite sure yet.

Raiden: I'm not sure what they're planning to do with this character, but I'm willing to wait and see.

Read the posts and you'll note a pattern...we discuss each character in each game and then do one final overall character post before moving on to the next game.

Kung Lao-
I've mixed thoughts on Kung Lao. I think he, as should the majority of old characters should retire. I can see him retiring and acting as the mentor to the next generation of heroes. However, if he's to continue on into the next generation, I think he should be promoted to "hero." Only trick in doing that is keeping him fresh since the best thing he's had going for him is not wanting to be hero. The second thing is explaining how he doesn't age, since I think the next gen should take place years after Armageddon. If he continues on, for the love of God ignore his MK:SM personality. Fucking awful.

Jax-
Off him. He's become redundant and boring and he should go along with the majority of other old characters. If for some reason though, he should return...turn him evil.

Kitana-
Being an old and very prominant character, she's seems like a likely choice for retirement. However, I can see her being counted among those "iconic characters' that they'll never let go. And being a personal favorite, I can't say I'd mind too much if she came back. Being one of the most developed characters too, it would be kind of a waste to lose her. I must admit, I'm also losing interest in the prospect of Jade taking her place very fast. If she returns though, she MUST NOT become Queen of Edenia. She should renounce her royal status and return to her roots. Wreck her life in Armageddon and have her abandon Edenia.

Mileena-
One of the few old characters I definitely think should return. Only thing is I want her to lose the rivalry with Kitana. Completely. I don't just mean, Kitana shifts aside or gets locked away (as Mileena's Armageddong ending would suggest) and Mileena carries on trying to take her place and rule Edenia. That's gotten old and I've really no interest in seeing her continue her madly pusuit of conquering Edenia when we all know it woun't work out. I'd rather Mileena finally realize Kitana is not the source of all her misery and that her pursuit of replacing Kitana is meaningless....and from there she sets out to establish her own identity and purpose. In essence: no more Kitana and no more Edenia.
(It just occurred to me...for both Kitana & Mileena, I want the same thing: no more Edenia. Just nuke the fucking place!tongue)

Reptile-
On the one hand, I think Reptile's run his course and should either die or retire. On the other hand, story-wise he's a flexible character. However, I've no idea what can be done with him. I'm tired of his whining about his last race and absolutely do not want to see him get his race. So I have no idea what could be done with Reptile should he return.

Baraka-
Lose him. The standard issue henchman bit is old. And what are his alternatives? Trying to take his own power? Leading the Tarkatan army? Both have been done to death. Kill him off.

Kintaro-
Kintaro seems like likely cannon fodder for Armageddon. However, if any Shokan returns, I'd prefer it be him. Goro's past his prime and should've never come back after MK:DA. Zero interest in Sheeva either. Not sure what can be done with him, but I do like Kintaro...so I wouldn't mind him continuing.

Shao Kahn-
Being the defining villain of this generation, he should probably die with it. If he returns though, I'd like to him de-powered and on his own with no allies and being everybody's enemy. Should also explore his past.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Jade and Smoke discussion being saved for MK3?

Back on topic(sorry about that)...

Baraka-
Well,if Mileena is gone I don't really think he will have a purpose considering he has been a servant to many people just like reppy.Of course he could stay and lead the Tarkatan to an ambush to take over Edenia or another realm.

Mileena-
She should probably have a face-to-face showdown with Kitana.Someone has to die in that battle.Either the clone wins or the princess. If Kitana wins I think their will be less weight on her back which means she could possibly lead her army to victory against Shao Kahn's forces(army) and/or the tarkatan which might lead to a Kitana/Baraka rivalry instead of a Mileena/Baraka one.

Reptile-
I think reptile should stay alive and bring his race back.Reptile+Khameleon=Baby Reptile?Reptile should have more impact in the game instead of just being a servant to everyone.Basically create his own army to invade/join forces with a realm.

Liu Kang-
I think he's better off dead than making him a zombie. As a zombie I don't think anyone would want to allie with him, would you?If he's going after Shang Tsung still then his character I'd say would be messed up.He should not come back simply because he doesn't really have a point in the game.He was murdered and he should stay dead because Taven took his thunder.

Kitana-
As a princess she should have a huge impact on the game.I'm not saying for her to be the main hero(it would be kinda cool though to have a female hero)but she should at least have something to do with the story.

Let her be with her mother and actually do something important in the game.Maybe the story can morph into some kind of huge war of some sort(nobody bring up MK:A).

Johnny Cage-
I don't think he should return. He is just some Hollywood movie star that doesn't really have a point in the story.I get kind of tired of him making movies about the tournaments in his endings. He doesn't seem like a type a guy to defeat the Earthrealm nemesis.

Shang Tsung-
Shang should stay, not as anyone's nemesis ,but maybe to go on a pursuit for power. It will be cool if he tricked Kahn into giving him power and strength(alone).I do not want to see him allied with Quan Chi.Shang was like Quan Chi's slave.Shang Tsung should go solo.

Kintaro-
As a shokan he should have more power. We don't really know if he is a prince or what not.He needs more power(not strength),but to his shokan army.Maybe he could be a general for the army or the second in command.

Shao Kahn
He just needs to return bigger and badder than ever 'nuff said.

Kung Lao-
The Kung Lao/Goro rivalry sounded really cool.I think this should continue and have a deep rivalry with him.I wasn't really feelin' the Goro/JC one.Kung Lao should do something in the next game for his ancestors in his ending instead of just yappin' about them.He needs more respect and should definitely return.

Scorpion-
They really messed up his story.Instead of chasing everyone else why not find out more about himself and his family.I don't care if Quan Chi dies in the next game.If he does they need to make Scorp as fresh as possible.I'm getting tired of the whole random crap.Stick to one story!

Sub-Zero-
I'm not really sure about Subby.A clan rivalry of some sort should start. The Subby/Scorp rivalry should go.Just like Brettski said, there has to be more in his MKD ending.

Hi, my name is m0s3pH. I'm kind of the, you know, overseer of this thread. I basically decide who gets discussed and when (though I admit I've been neglecting this thread for a while, and I apologize) and what you get for discussing those characters. So pretty much, Tanya isn't getting discussed for a while, though it's high time to start on MK3.

Let's start with... oh, I don't know... Sindel

About Sub-Zero's MKD ending, I really think that those who believe there's something more to it than what it seems are really reading too much into it. I believe that the ending doesn't indicate a connection between Sub-Zero and Onaga but rather that the dying Tarkatan's words were to display his undying loyalty to him. I do think that perhaps the Cryomancers have had some sort of interaction with Onaga and/or Shao Kahn, and it would be cool to see things like that explored in Sub-Zero's story.

Now onto Sindel...

I personally like Sindel, but it's such a shame that she gets overshadowed by Kitana, almost to the point where it seems as if she's nothing more than just a figurehead. Her chances of returning are more likely going to be small, and I can understand her dying if they aren't going to do anything useful with her.

However, I would like to see her return and really step up as a character, showing how she rules Edenia as well as more of an insight to her personality. She doesn't have to have the prominence that she had in MK3's story, but if she were to return, they should explore her potential instead of putting it to waste. I don't have any concrete ideas as to what she could do, unfortunately.

Gameplay-wise, while she is said to be good in the 2D MKs, she's kind of bad in the 3D MKs. I find her somewhat fun to play as overall. I'd like to see her levitation move return and be toned up as well as more special moves involving her powers of sound. Style-wise, I really like Cha Chuan (a.k.a. Zha Chuan) for her, especially if it's the Yang sub-style. The Kwan Dao is a good weapon for her and it goes nicely with Cha Chuan. Yeah, I know that we won't likely see fighting styles in MK8, but I'm just saying...

Overall, I would like to see Sindel return and have her potential explored. If she dies, that should NOT lead to Kitana becoming Queen of Edenia.
Meh. I'm kinda unsure on what happens to Sindel...

If she lives, make sure something actually helpful to her storyline is added in. Controlled-then-liberator seems a tad forced.

If she dies, maybe add some political underground on Edenia. Have a political conflict between rebels and royals. Just make sure the French Revolution (Guillotine!) does not hapen here.

Basically yea. Even though she's one of my favorite female characters.

She will die, probably trying to save her daughters life. And since Kitana is her daughter, Kitana will be sucessor to the Edenian throne. Sindel was kind of a flip-flopper anyway, of course a lot of MK characters are. Damn I hope the new game will be completely Fresh.
