I played a little the last couple days and experimented with some powerup setups...
Kano (Xing Yi) - 1,1,2,cs, Power Up...Aikido d+4 or throw, maybe 4,4,3,cs,b+2? I don't know if the 4 in Aikido hits mid.
Sub-Zero (Kori Blade) - 3, cs,cs, Power Up...from Dragon, you can do d+2 which probably doesn't hit mid but if you are close enough has a high probabability of hitting them as they go to block low...you can cs,cs to Shotokan and mixup d+3~bdc with 3,2. Once 3,2 hits, mixup d+3~bdc with another 3,2 or 1,2,b+2...since they are stunned standing up, if they expect a low attack like d+3 and try to block it while stunned and you do 1,2,b+2 you will hit them, if you decide to do another 3,2 (which recovers quickly, but if blocked you can be thrown) it will hit and the stun mixups start all over...Shotokan d+3~bdc is great because it puts you out of the range of almost every attack in the game. If they try to retaliate after you hit them with it, you get a free combo...even a Kori 3, cs,cs, Power Up again...
Cyrax (Ninjitsu) - 1,1,b+1,cs, Close Bomb, d,b+3...this bomb setup seems to be inescapable, they are forced to block the spin kicks or jump away from the bomb...hit either way.
Frost (Tong Bei) - MKL said that this is escapable, but I don't see how it can be done...u+2, Ground Freeze. You try it and tell me if you can block it, then tell me how you did it! o_O
More later...

you can block it!! (courtesy of MKL) takes on the properites of a stun in this scenario...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i must admit, MKLvsFOXSTEP (bo vs sonya) is very good play...kudos to both guys.
1) great example of how to block sonya's TKD stuff
2) puke puddle is broken...offense, defense, (and infinite...not used here though)
3) sonya's kiss is still great on rising opponents
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
puke puddle madness!...characters that have specials like kunglao (spin kicks), sonya (fly kick), lay me (flying punches) might be able to counteract the puddle to maintain some semblance of offensive initiative...(my random thought)

So you just hold d+blk? I haven't had much luck getting out of this...if any.
I uploaded a new match vid of me vs my bro...

Well, news flash! Scorpion owns everyone. Sub and the others can compete with him, but its an uphill battle. Play scorpion if you want to. I personally cant stand his "scrub friendly" style and easy combos with no timing. Sub and JC for life baby!
I thank the heavens for whoever invented Kori: 3 and b+4, SZ would suck so much without it.

I wouldn't use those too much...you will eat "jab-city" if someone blocks your Kori 3.

Thanks for the SZ info, scorpion owns him though :-p Just watched the TiT vids, the contestants weren't all that if I may say so, but hey, I wasn't there so I don't have the right to judge them. MKL has got a nice Bo there btw and one guy's Jax surprised me but the other vids, meh, I'd own them with scorp. Few reversals, few low-mid mix ups, combo-block-combo-block all the time. Maybe it's the tension at such a tournament, I don't know I never played one... I do know however that there are much better players out there, maybe we'll see them in a next tourney...
---
Amen to you. Some of those matches were about as exciting as watching glue dry :)
I'm no expert when it comes to MKDA, but I've WON my share of MK tournaments (every one in this state that I know of, and some in others), and I have to say that if this is the level of competition out there, then MKDA will never get the recognition it truly deserves. Props to MKL and Foxstep tho - that's some of the best stuff I've seen so far.
As far as answering the magic "top-tier" question, I think if everyone watches these videos, they will see for themselves - it's fairly obvious. However, I didn't see a decent Scorpion in that mix (like he SHOULD be played), and only one decent showing from Nitara. Banning infinites, I would say that Frost just kinda drops out of there, yet Bo is still powerful enough to stay.

Scorpion >>> Bo >> Everyone else. (MKL "official" tier listing...he he..)
to Versatile: 'easy combos' don't kill people, HELLFIRE cheeZe kills people!!!! he he. this is the primary reason Bo gets pimped by Scorpy.
(well, that AND spear! after alot of Bo's moves (some even on hit) scorpy getz a FREE spear + 30% combo! he he he)

From watching a few TiT5 vids...Bo Rai Cho, Drunken Fist 2,3 recovers instantly...
o_O
...nothing is guaranteed, but it's a great setup move. Kung Lao...some of the best jabs in the game, 1, 1,1, 1,1,1...
O_o
Jax = pure damage and great jabs...plus a reversal...

KUNGLAO (manits) 1,1,1 or 1,1 good fast pokes; NOT safe on block..
JAX ground pound not that good...easy to see coming...although to look at the TiT vids, you'd think it was gold...

1) not so my friend...1,1,1 all hit high, and are predictable...stop with 1,1 and immediate retaliation is possible; stop with 1,1,1 and immediate retaliation is possible...(you could even SS the 1's and retaliate whenever you want)...of course it's all based on where the opp. ends, but you must respond quickly....1,1,1 obviously has the longer reset time, but even 1,1 is not safe...(i believe a single '1' is safe enough tho...(lol))
2) watch the TiT vid and notice how OFTEN the Jax ground pound gets abused...at least 50% of the time it should've been avoided or he should've been punished...(it's easy to see coming and select the correct move on reaction.)

well whaddya know?...ol' devilgene posts strats and MKL appears outta the blue...(rollz eyez) anyway: the KEY part of this advice is "--use it right--"......if you can decipher this like i can, then maybe you too can use these jabs.....just maybe! devilgene = resident Kung Lao master.

Transported from another post...my take on Kenshi:
Kenshi is very linear and easily sidestepped...even with MKL's tracking strategy it's hard to follow up on some setups. I mean, I hit with Tai Chi b+4 and it's really hard to set up my next attack because they can get up quickly and sidestep. He doesn't really have any moves that hit sidesteppers like Sonya's Tae Kwon Do 3 or Scorpion's Hapkido u+4. His jabs aren't that good and recover badly so he has to rely on turtling to get his combos and damage, which is all he really has going for him.

Got some more matches...I'll capture them and have them up by tomorrow or tonight.
Kano's Xing Yi 1,1,2,cs, Power Up, cs, d+3 or 2 mixup is so awesome! They take like 15% damage from the d+3 or 60%+ from a 2 combo!! It moves him up on the tier list a little IMO, but he still lacks with slower jabs and not too many good low attacks. Aikido d+4 is good, and acts like Hsu Hao's Wrestling mixup.
Cage...o_O

A little update with that Kano Neijin Mixup...
Xing Yi - 1,1,2,cs, Powerup
Then...
Stay in Aikido and do either d+3 (low) or 1 or 2 (throws). The low kick on powerup does like 25% damage and you all know how much special throws do!
Vids up tomorrow. Nothing special though, after watching them it seems like my brother had his mind on other things...but my play is good as always
Just Kung Lao (jab madness) and Kano vs Scorpion.

Hi I'm new to this website, and a UK MK Fan.
I would like to participate in the high level gameplay.
Versatile I read that you are the Sub-Zero guy around here. I would like to post some info on him that you might find intresting.
I found that b+1 in Dragon is a great way to end combos. I find that it looks very stylish and I use it as a base to almost end all the combos I do.
I would like to thank konqrr for this because he has a sub-zero video where one of his combos end with the b+1 in dragon.
I would now like to give you all some combos I found with sub-zero that I hope will be used in the future (I was very disappointed with how the players were using Sub in the 'TiT5')
In kori: 3,cs,1,cs,b+1 is a very stylish combo and even though it does 14% damage, I use it to chip energy. Another combo from Dragon: 1,1,2,d+2,d+3,b+1 is another combo I love doing and it does 20 damage. You can also end that very same combo with dragon's u+4 as well which does the same damage but is a lot more difficult to do (You can definitely do it out of the corner).
Another combo from Shotokan: 1,2,b+2,b+2,4,cs~u+4 which is 6 hits 24% damage. With this combo make sure the 4 in the combo hits while the body is pretty high in the air or the u+4 in Dragon will not connect. You can also replace the 4 from shotokan with a 3 instead which is a lot easier but the two kicks look a lot better and more painful.
Another good combo from Shotokan: 3~b+2,b+2,3,cs~cs,2 which is 5 hits 22% damage. You have to tap forward then press 3 otherwise the Kori Blade 2 will not hit. Also make sure that the 4th hit is 3 not f+3.
This next combo is really hard but I promise it can be done. From Shotokan: 1,2,b+2,cs,d+2,u+4,b+1 for 6 hits 25% damage.
It is really hard to get the b+1 at the end of this combo but I promise you it can be done.
You can also even finish with the dragon b+1 after a shotokan d+3 if you input it in a juggle.
Here are some examples, from shotokan: 1,2,b+2,b+2,d+3,cs,b+1. You can't press the b+1 straight after you change to dragon or Sub-zero will step back, instead press it as soon as the dragon writing is visible. If you do get it you'll get 6 hits 23%. You can also use the shotokan d+3 for this combo.
From Shotokan: 3~b+2,b+2,d+3,cs,b+1 for 5 hits 20% damage.
Also in Shotokan: 1,2,b+2,cs,d+2,u+4,cs,2 for 6 hits 25% damage
Try these combos out and post back if you managed to pull some of them off. I'll post back again soon.
PEACE!!!
