I really, really, really hope his alternate costume is mirrored from "The Dark Knight" movie.

No Alts. don't bother me. Ed mentioned color changes so we can tell them apart, and even that much is more then enough.

Think about it, Street Fighter 2 (one of the greatest fighting games of all time) never had alt costumes. It only had different colors so you can tell eachother apart. Regardless, it was (and still is) probably one of the best fighting games out there.

Hell, same with the first few Mortal Kombat games. If you picked the same character, it only darkened the color a little bit. There was NO real costume alternatives or anything like that. The main focus of the game is the fighting mechanics, the balance, the graphics, the gameplay... the alternate costumes should be the least of your guys worries.

Honestly, I'm happy with what I'm getting. I wouldn't want them to change their iconic looks anyways. I don't want new looks, I don't want older looks, I want the default iconic looks, of course with the exception of minor color tweaks.

I'm happy with Joker's appearance, and I wouldn't want him any other way. Good work MK team, you've outdone yourself once again. I'm happy with the release of The Joker, as well as finding out Kitana is in the game. I don't care for Jax... sorry.

As for Mr. Palmiotti, I don't mind him being in the game at all. I'd love to kick his ass with his own creations. grin

Ugh! I'm sick and tired of being told that alternate costumes should be the least of my worries and all that crap. I DO NOT CARE about street fighter, or what MK characters had on in classic games. I don't care that we couldn't change costumes in the past. I am concerned with ALL aspects of the game, not just game play. We all know that the MK team is doing their absolute best to get the fighting system looking it's best, so I have no worries in that department. What I am worried about though is the level of depth this game is going to have outside of story mode and online.

So we have no alternate costumes. Hmm, ok, well that makes for a pretty boring replay experience especially if you're playing offline in vs mode against friends and family. Picking the same character with the same costume over and over and over again! Eventually it WILL get boring. I can't even play MK Trilogy for too long without turning it off, because it does get too repetitive. EVERYONE knows how important the gameplay is. And we ALL know that we are going to get great gameplay, simply based on what we have been shown.

Now, knowing all those things, it surprises me that some are not even remotely concerned with the other content this game will have to offer. Content that will add to the replay value of this game. Take into consideration that we no longer have other mini games and such optional to us. There is no puzzle Kombat, there is no MK racing, there is no conquest mode. (not that I liked any of those things) From what we've been shown, and from what we've read, there will be a story mode, and a vs mode. Now, you're telling me that will all that useless garbage I stated above cut out of the game, they couldn't take the time to incorporate such things as alternate costumes into this game? I find that hard to believe.

I don't want no stinking palette swapped costumes and thats all to it. And trust me they will add them if enough MK fans make enough noise. They left Khameleon out of MK Armageddon and look what happened? Fans voiced their dislike of this and got Khameleon, even though they half assed her design. So if you guys really want alternates in, do something about it. Make noise, email, do what you have to do and fuck what anybody else on this board has to say about it. It's your opinion and you have a right to it.

Good argument on this subject, props. But ED did say when we use the same character he would look different. So I'm sure it won't just be lighter color schemes, but changes in color schemes altogether. smile

Honestly, alternate costumes don't affect the game's replay value. A costume is a costume, you still get the same gaming experience regardless. I doubt the game gets 'repetitive' based on the same character appearances. It's a fighting game, I don't understand what you mean by repetitive. You pick a character, and you kill eachother.

Another thing, those mini-games were nothing but lousy gimmicks. They added no replay value for me, as I only went through them a couple of times until I completely ignored them... especially the MKart. Keep in mind that even though they removed all this 'useless garbage' they are still designing the game from mostly scratch. So removing the mini-games (or even keeping them) would have little to no impact on how the game is being designed. Even though they're not incorporating lousy gimmicks, it's still a redundant time consuming aspect for the MK team and they don't want to deal with it just yet.

Besides, as I recall in a recent interview. Boon doesn't want to go through the hassle of going through all 40 time-consuming approvals he mentioned. Nonetheless he already mentioned they are not going to make movie-appearances, so what other costumes could the DC heroes have other then their default iconic comic designs. If there is a chance of alternative costumes, you won't be seeing The Dark Night anyways.

I'm happy with the outcome of the default costumes. They look great, they look familiar, and they look iconic. Hell, if they REALLY want to add alternative costumes, I wouldn't mind a separate online downloadable patch for future references. They can go through the hassle of 40 approvals after they've released a fully/complete version of the game for me to purchase. Otherwise, I'm happy.

Also, you can't just 'expect' great game-play based on what you've seen. Alternative costumes should be the least of your concerns. Here's to a solid fighting game-play, crisp graphics, great finishers, worth-while story, interesting cameos, solid online-play, and a smooth 60FPS!

I'm not concerned with online play because I do not play online. And I don't see what's so hard to understand about it being repetitive. It is! Like you said you choose a character and you kill each other ... what's not repetitive about that? especially if there's nothing new there visually to grasp your attention after playing it for so long.
Also the DC heroes and villains have PLENTY of costumes to choose from. All of which have been changed in the comics. I'm not talking about movie costumes. The last thing I want to see is something from Batman films as that has already been stated as a no no. But there are are other design references in the comics for alternates.
This is just one example of a comic inspired alternate.

YES!!!!!!!!!!! The absolute best render so far. I can't wait to play this game.

Second, I do agree that the lack of alts. is kind of annoying, but I suppose there's always hope with DLC.

Exactly my point. The core game itself gets repetitive for you, and that's what draws you away. Since you don't play online, playing the computer over and over will seem repetitive to you regardless of different costumes or not. The costumes are for show and add slight varity... sure they will be attention grabbers (and ALT renders would excite most of us) but only for a short period of time as you begin to get familiar with it and realize that having a second costume really made no different to the repetitive core gameplay you experience while playing the same CPU's over and over again.

My point: Alternative costumes are least bit important right now. You've survived without them countless times in some of the best fighting games, you can do without them, in this one, no problem. They're fun for a small bit of variety but they have no drastic affects to the core gameplay itself (whereas fighting mechanics, gameplay, and even graphics have drastic affect).

Lets worry about the more important aspects of the game. Like, how is Joker going to play out? What will his Fatality look like. How will his Free-Fall play out? Does he have a stage? Will we see the Arkham Asylum? Is the cane going to be used as a weapon? Will we see weapon kombat again?

That's how you see. I do not. Repetitive or not, at least I'd have the option to change up things visually for myself. But at any rate I'm done debating this issue, its tiring trying to continue a discussion when you don't see eye to eye.

Beautiful job MkTeam! Now? NOW, we're talkin'.

That's the quality I'm talking about. At least for this game. This render should be the standard for at least the DC characters. He looks like a more realistic version of the Joker that I'm most familiar with. Using the style of rendering from the older games seems to be the best thing at this point. I'd say, don't even worry about "photo-realism". A good looking Hi-Res render seems more appropriate.

No complaints on this one because I can see the better style showing through. With this render, it's more apparent that whoever is making them, has mastered that technique (even though it's obviously an older technique). This style fits this game better than trying to pass the skin textures and all that off as "next gen". Not there yet so, please don't put out the sketchy works. Makes more sense to use the best old style, than to use an incomplete new style.

Now, I still strongly believe that the characters of the two factions (MK & DC) should have a different look//feel//arua//treatment about them. And right now, that seems like it's becoming more apparent. Liu Kang has some different....uhhhm, "different strokes" about him. Darker feel, even though he's a good guy.

That's it! Good MK guys = DC bad guys as far as feel is concerned in rendering. MK bad guys can also = DC bad guys in feel, but every bad guy should look really menacing. This Joker render has some "MK bad guy menace" about him, and that's right on point. DC good guys, should be presented in an almost "cheezy" fashion. Yea, "strong", but verge "cheezy".

Boon said it right when he reminded us that Superman is a "boyscout". The only DC exception to all this is Batman. He should be presented in the same feel as Liu Kang has been, or even someone like Kung Lao in the past games. "A good guy who realizes, and is well weathered in the area of terrible circumstances." Did alright with Batman in this area though...

Anyway, I don't even care about the Joker, but you guys did a great job on him. So thanks for the entertainment. First really impressive render; "The Joker".

The only DC character I'm interested in right now, is the Green Lantern. Let's see how Hal//John? turns out.

Maybe I'm giving the industry, and certainly the fans, a little too much credit, but... Perpetual progress might not be an unreasonable expectation?

Joker looks great and psychotic as always ha, ha. I don't think Ledger's look would fit entirely in this game not to mention DC won't allow it as they always stated.

I'm surprised more people don't want Harvey Dent in.

The Joker just bought a copy of this game for me. He was the only DC character I actually wanted in this game and now that he was delivered I can safely say that this game is going into my library. This being such a weird concept for me made it really scratch my head and debate, but it looks to be shaping up really well.
