In MK8 would you rather have your bosses playable or non-playable?

Non-playable for me. We haven't had this type of sub-boss/final boss combo since MK3. This setup really added a sense of intrigue and mystery to the first 3 games. I think it's about time Mortal Kombat gets back to its roots. That includes non-playable secret characters and ways of getting to them similar to MK1 and MK2.

Non-playable for me also. MK8 should have unlockable and non-playable hidden/secret characters. The non-playable hidden/secret characters should be a few of the other main guys that died in MKA. A few examples could be (if they died) are.... Shang Tsung, Cage and Tanya. So who would you pick to be hidden/secret and non-playable? Only 3 characters!!!

NoN all the way.

Takes away from the untouchable threat that they are supposed to be about if you just, have them pickable on the roster.

It's not a "Boss character" in that case, it's just an asshole character with alot of power moves.

Non playable. it just makes them that much more mysterious and stand out from the rest of the cast. and in a programing sence it keeps them from having to balance or make the boss weaker. Bring back the badass bosses.

"You will die mortal!"

I'll never forget finally making it to Khan and hearing that in the arcade. (about $40 worth of quarters later) Or hearing the crowd cheer as Kintaro uppercutted me into orbit. Definately bring back Non-playable bosses and Hidden characters, but also seperate them from the rest with some wow factor so you will keep coming back for more ass woopin just to here what else they will say.

"Ahhhh, to easy!"..... love that one too.

I would also say non-playable, but I wouldn't mind seeing something where you get to morph into a sub boss for a fatality ala MK2. That would be cool if it's done right and it makes sense.

yea i agree, the kintaro morph was pretty cool. i also liked it because it was like a secret fatality, which boon should consider for mk8, and on that note, i dont see why the game isnt more cryptic either, i mean look at his damn website, who the hell knows what going on there. you would think they could put more secrets in the games lately that dont involve you opening koffins, or achieve something in konquest. Then again i havent played armageddon, so i'm not familiar with it as much as any other of the MKs

- non-playable
For both Bosses and Sub bosses. that would be my preference. Bosses are often overpowering and unbalanced anyway. Fighting them is not supposed to be a fair fight, so playing as them shouldn't be an option.
I agree with everyone else. Non-playable ftw.

And while at it, make some unique bosses. Make a giant transforming battletank.

Most of you have said so Far:Non Playable.

I think it really Depends.

If it is a HUGE Boss like Blaze and Onaga. Then I am giving it a No.
If it is like MK:DA Where you face Quan Chi And Shang Tsung. Then I really wouldn't mind. Because it is mostly the Huge Characters that get annoying.
Blaze for Instance. People Online that were Cheap with Big bosses. They always did that one Role move over and over and over and over and over again until you just jumped in the air finally and just kicked him.
They need to bring back Normal Sized people bosses. Because I think Big bosses are lame unless it is the Sub-Boss.

Playable... as long as it's super super super super hard to access.

Playable as in MK4's Shinnok? NO!
Playable as in MKDA... NO!!!

Super secret as in MK3? No, that wasn't super at all...

I'm saying like, in order to get the boss you have to:

Get 1,000,000 (one million) arcade wins.
Collect 2,000,000 (two million) coins.

Over-the-top shit that makes you earn your boss.

I remember playing as Kahn in MK3... dude. "blah blah blah not in the arcade" well I doubt there will be an MK8 arcade so why mention anything other than the home version. And Moloch was an unplayable boss in MKDA............... so that was a nice touch that some people forget to remember.

If it's a character with a bit of range (and not a bunch of stupid super-moves), the little bitch in me will want to play.
It should theoretically at least be really difficult to fight as the boss, though. Because that shit is always cheap and nasty.

I think games like Tekken, especially with bosses like Heihachi and Devil, really showed how anti-climactic it can be to play as a boss. I think keeping them unattainable adds to their mystique and appeal.

But like I said... I'm a little bitch and I wanna play with ALL the toys!!!

The best (and hardest) bosses tend to be unplayable.

Original Tekken 5's Jinpachi is a sucker-punching bastard.

Soul Calibur III's Nightterror is a pain to GET to, let alone defeat.

Dead or Alive 4's final boss makes me want to break my controller.

Any "old school" MK boss was a royal pain. I still get frustrated trying to take out Shao Kahn in Ultimate MK3...

IF, and a big if, the bosses were to be playable, I would definitely say that they should be blocked from online play and require some rather high criteria to unlock (such as beating the game on hard, flawlessly, throughout and then using a secret password on the character select screen.)

Boss are badass as long as we, the sucky players, don't get to play as them. There are always those who DO want to play as the bosses (to be the badasses), but a boss does lose their magic when we bungle up their "god"-tier status.

I just hope the programmers at Midway understand this concept:

Cheap Bull Shit A.I. vs Fun & Challenging A.I.

They always seem to create the crappiest AI of all fighting games I've played. Second place comes SC for me.

For once I'd like to play MK on a hard difficulty, and when losing, I don't get pissed off at the programmers. I want to lose a match and say to myself: "Damn, I suck. I need more practice." like I do when I play a friend that's better than me. I don't want my every move anticipated by the all-knowing NPC. Oh look! Reiko just combo-breakered my PROJECTILE again! Awesome shit. sleep
