As for the render, its not great, it looks more like an in-game model than a render. However, if is in-game, then great.

Captain Marvel is only a little bit younger than Superman (he was created by Fawcett Comics in 1940). In any case, they wouldn't remove Raiden for him. If anything, they'd include Raiden, as they are looking for parallels.

Not a fan worthy character? He outsold Superman then DC got pissed that he was "too similar" to Supes because they were losing out on sales so they sued, won, and CM was put in the dark. CM was later bought by DC and put on the back burner because they never wanted his sales to be close to Supes. Of course fans aren't going to know about him nowadays because he is/was hardly marketed. Only now is DC realizing they have a great character that could be a cash cow. Hence, the Captain Marvel movie coming. What kid wouldn't want to say a magic word and turn into a super hero? BTW....Flash didn't debut until 1940 so CM had the red, yellow, and lightning bolt rockin before him. CM debuted in 1939.

I'm kinda surprised people have been as positive as they have been!
Despite being ironically similar to MK in the simplicity of the basic make-up of the design; I never could have imagined an MK fan getting it, let alone liking it.

What the similarities to Flash and Superman don't really communicate is the significance of Captain Marvel as a cultural figure. It's hard to imagine the revamped Flash costume not benefitting from Marvel, who shares more in common with that design than the original Flash does.

It might highlight the era's generic use of the lightning bolt as insignia, but I like to think Captain Marvel's costume really distills that to a strong piece of pop art. While not complex, it's a bolt that's usually instantly recognisable, distinguished by the subtlties of it's dimensions.

It also really encapsulates the transition from the pulp heroes to the dawn of the superheroes. What's there isn't complicated, but it's been so spot-on, Captain Marvel's been able to resist substantial change for sixty years.
Shortly after it's inception this was a character that managed to even thrash Superman in sales, and eclipse him as a part of the zeitgeist of that time!

I think a lot of the weight of that is in the buttons, the sash, the cape, and even the composition of how the costume sits and pieces together. Not that that's an excuse, because, I think, it's one of the most iconic pieces of graphic design in superhero history, and the MK team have done a surprisingly great job bringing that to life!

No shoulder pads, black, or gold armbands! Impressive!


One might draw historic comparisons between Captain Marvel and the ninja palette swaps of MK, although, I'd tend to think history will be much harder on "classic" MK design.

Also, enough characters with long capes. Until now we have Batman, Superman, and now Captain Marvel with long capes.

I thought they'll pick up the MK vs DC characters by taking into consideration their costume to include variety in the game, but it doesn't seem so.

Captain Marvel's cape only goes to mid thigh, not all the way down to his feet. Look at my icon in the red costume.

From a look point of view I can see the Flash+ Supes=Cap marvel but otherwise, not at all. That would be like saying Scorp+Sub=Reptile or Flash+Magneto=QuickSilver or Thor+Superman=Sentry. May look a little similar but nothing alike overall.

I doubt Raiden was axed for this guy, although if that's the case...Fujin's chances might go up but I'll be really shocked if Raiden doesn't make the cut.

I don't really know who he is can someone fill me in on him?
To me he looks like a Superman rip off.
Plus who smiles when they power up.

As you can see they're both very different from each other. It's good to know about both characters before assuming.












And to the other dude, MINION's right, his cape is nothing like Supermans. Supes, Bats are much longer and more protecting while Cap Marvel's is half way and hardly has any huge significance in battle.

Superman rip-off from the forties who is a boy who turns to man when he says the magic word, Shazam. He got his powers from the Wizard Shazam, each letter of his name acronymous to a god (or legend) from which Cap draws his powers: the wisdom of Solomon; the strength of Hercules; the stamina of Atlas; the power of Zeus; the courage of Achilles; and the speed of Mercury.

As far as story goes, he's the successor to the corrupted Teth-Adam, and for the most part, has managed to remain a fairly innocent and light hearted character. These days he's replaced the now dead Wizard Shazam, allowing Captain Marvel Jr to succeed him.
The extended Marvel Family are just one of the many wholesome traits of the characyter.

His powers are reasonably generic -- strength, speed, flight, endurance.
However, as is transformation is facilitated by a magic bolt of lightning, he can repeatedly transform in close proximity to an enemy to give them an unpleasant experience.

Isn't he supposed to be like... 10?

I can't believe someone is actually complaining about characters wearing capes.

It's almost as though they don't understand the entire concept of the game is a crossover with comic book superheroes.

I find this render very boring but i know nothing about the guy or what makes him special. ill have to see him in battle to make up my mind.

It really helps if you have a better context for how Captain Marvel relates conceptually to everything around him. Probably not an entry-level character for rebellious teens weened on the excitement of fatalities.

For many I'm sure the attraction is the retro quality of the character, so it'll be very interesting to see how reactions changes after the game (and eventually, the possible movie).

Although, if he managed to sneak in, I'd imagine Black Adam getting the angsty-antihero juices running wild.

It's always hilarious when Mortal Kombat fans whine about there being too many similar looking characters in any game.
