posted07/08/2008 08:58 PM (UTC)byIm sure he will be in this game. My question is, is that if he is in this game will he be a villain? The last couple of games he was in he was turning into a darker character. But this game apparently wont have anything to do with past MK storylines and wont be a continuation on MK Armageddon.
Will MK choose to do his character as dark?
Or Will MK choose the earlier versions of Raiden?
I think it would be cool if he turns out to be the main villain in the game.

Rayden was never a villain.
He was just angered at Shujinko, and anyone who'd potentially put Earthrealm in jeopardy. He was never evil.

I didn't expect much from Raiden. His outfits the past few games have gotten worse and worse. I hope this game can conjure up an outfit that I will love. I will surely out play him if he does look more MK2 classic, or something totally new that screams God almighty. Raiden has always been a favorite of mine. He just wasn't what i remembered him in MKD to MKA. Hopefully midways design this time around will get back that love i had for him growing up.

they'll probably go for an iconic look so I doubt we'll see a dark Raiden unless it's as an alternate costume.

I hope they will bring back the Raiden of MK2!!!he is the best one everrr!!!can't wait for his renders

The Dark costume sucked. I never used him much after MKDA. The whole emotional ordeal about earthrealm in harms way. Was just a total cop out.

His best outfit, without a doubt is his MKDA primary.
It was such a fantastic look. Not only was it very Rayden, but it showed his 'God-like' status and captured him in essence.
I'd love for a slightly modified version of his MKDA primary as his main outfit, & perhaps his MK2 design as his alternate.

Raiden will be in this game. I would assume they will go for his original 'light' look. I dislike the whole Dark Raiden image. Of his older costumes, my favpurite is his MKDA alternate. Obviously though, they'll have him with his hat on and I think the MK2, MK4 and MKDA looks are the best ones to model him on.
He needs his original straw hat back and it needs to be on his head! He must have his cloak and he needs to have electricity coursing up and down his body once more. His eyes should glow white as always and it would be cool to see a nice flicker of electricity from them from time to time. His outfit should be regal, comfortable and not too heavy looking. He should look both powerful and wise. Given the recent designs for the MK character so far, I thave high hopes for what Raiden will look like once he's unveiled.
Whilst we're on the matter, his Torpedo had better be in there and it needs to be usable. I would like the old school recover on it where he flipped back to the opposite end of the screen therefore making it somewhat safe. It's been terrible on the MKD and MKA. Also, allow the use of it in the air once more. Make his lightning move run off his body like it did in the original games. It looks awful now and it would be cool to have a cancel on his teleport, though it happens so fast it might not be practical.

This seems to be the equilibrium amongst casual Raiden fans. Has a bit of with my influence in there as well. "Connect the Dots":
Raiden
ATTIRE:
1.) Main Primary Constume- Majority goes for MKDA Primary Raiden. ALL agree on "Light Raiden" for MKvs DC. Influence comes from MKSM.
I'd call it, a slightly "settled down" version of the MKDA Primary Raiden Costume. Or, a modified MKSM Raiden. Streamline him a little if you use the MKDA model as the base. Which, could be taken care of by the looks of the body builds of the males that we have seen so far. Try the old hat in different sizes, or "calm down" the MKDA-A one a little.
No cape if the driving force is MKSM Raiden.
2.) Main Alternate Costume- MK1 game//MKDA Alternate. Means he can have a hat on, but he should definitely be in black and white. Doesn't need the hat. Should come out looking like something that has a Heavy fan art influence on it, but familiar enough to his MKDA alt. Longer hair than MKDA-A whether hat or no hat. Doesn't matter on the hat for this costume if his hair is longer somehow(experiment with two small braids down the front, loose in the back or something), but try it with and without the hat to see what works best. NO toes! Go with the shoes, or the wraps from MKSM or MK1-Trilogy.
3.) Secondary Primary Costume- Full on MK1 Movie // MK Conquest T.V. Show. = No Hat, white//blue Robes and or vest, Wraps for his feet(glorified hobo, almost lol). No heavy belts or huge ropes. Fully Clothed, Classic MK1-2 stance. Maybe the gloves from MKDA alt.
4.) Secondary Alternate Costume- Full on fanart // MKSM = Hat, No hoodie(draw string to keep the hat on), Long-er white hair, shoes. Relaxed shirt, muscular build should partially show, MKDA alt costumes pants or something like it. black//white, black//white//blue, or black//white//blue with the metals(golds or silvers that he had on him) from MKDA alt
GAME PLAY, SPECIAL MOVES, & FATALITIES
1.) Lightning Throw- Lightning "climbs" all over him like in MK1. Lightning throw climbs off of him through his fingers. Effortless but Skillful.
2.) Torpedo- Experiement with a "teleporting torpedo", make it move faster, maybe shorter rage ect.
3.) Teleport- Experiement with a side steping teleport. Make it look like a mix between MK1-2, & MKD's fmv Teleport.
4.) Ground Shocker- Standing up?, then Site MKD's intro. But, could even work in Raidens wake-up//get-up game. To where, he can shock people when he's getting up off the ground. MKA's intro where Raiden shocks Shinnok is a good example.
5.) Electric Shield- Site MKD's intro. Defensive move.
6.) Lightning Bolt- Rain or Nightwolfs move should be Raiden's move.
7.) Electric Dash-
8.) MKD Throw-
9.) Electric Shockwave // ThunderClap- Stun move equal to Jax's ground pound where he'd hit the ground (or tap his staff on the ground). Or equal to his Lightning throw where he'd clap his hands instead of actually throwing lightning.
10.) Eye of Raiden // "Eye of Ra" Least desired move, but experiment with it. Could be a stun triggering a thunder cap, or another projectile, or a fatality
============================================ ----------------------------------------------- ============================================
1.) Head Popper- MK1 fatality matured. However that works in a T rated game.
2.) Shocking Death- MKDA re-visualized. It was perfect, just make it more brutal. More attention to how much electricity we see, how much detail paid to the victim ect.. However that translaes in a T rated game. Blows them up, or turns them to a very gross corpse.
3.) Super Heat Instead of like the Shocking death where they blow up, or turn to a crispy corpse, they turn into a gross blue pile of super heated mush and fall to the ground.
4.) Wrath of Raiden // Raiden Smite...or something to that effect- Something where he alters the weather. Maybe an uppercut waay up into the sky, then Raiden follows and triggers a lightning storm or something.
5.) Fatality 3- Something clever with his staff. Call lightning from the sky and round house kick it at the victim.
More on my particular opinion later.

For a side game going for iconicness (there’s that word again), light Raiden should be in.
I'm also really looking forward to see what's done with him.
Hah, remember this?

Well, there's our Raiden!
Rayden is amazing, fun, and of course, one of the most iconic MK characters ever.
I'm not sure what look they will use for him, but with luck, they will somehow (in a NON-canon way) guide/write the current story as a "what if" thing after the “final events of MKA”, and give him his dark and light look back.
One thing Im certain is that no character should return looking exactly like they did in past games, they must look NEW! No matter how amazing his MKDA costume was, they must design an entirely new outfit for him, but still, it can retain some classic elements and details from past games.
I cant wait to see Rayden in action, he is a must for this game, and I hope he is confirmed soon. I must say I have been very happy with Rayden, they did a great job with him in MKDA and completely improved him in potential with MKD, I truly hope to see more of the original god force of MK. Im interested to see how neutral or evil he really is.
Rayden rocks! And as I've said in another thread:
“Im a fan of his less-muscular/bulky look (Mk1-Mk4/MkSM), but I loved the super designs that they gave him for MKDA, those are probably his best looks. Rayden should get something along those lines, BUT it has to be something that looks new. It would be very boring to see him as he has been in the past games.
Depending on what they decide to do with his story, its also possible to get a “dark” new look for him, and that’s something Im hoping for (despite his MKDA looks being better then the ones of MKD).
Long white hair was an excellent addition (obvious nod to Lambert from the films), and I very much agree that the way the thunder-electricity swirled around his body in MK1 rocked, it looked cooler. “

This is the second time I've read this, but I think the evidence points the other direction.
Rayden is clearly evil. He re-animated the corpse Liu Kang to to wreak "havoc on those who have done harm to Earthrealm." Given that Rayden isn't omniscient (most polytheistic deities aren't), how exactly does he discriminate who is has harmed Earthrealm and who's done otherwise? Well, according to Liu's canon bio, he doesn't. As it's stated in his bio:
"my corpse retains my knowledge of martial arts and has killed many innocents."
So the thunder God is controlling a Zombie who has killed innocent people. According to Kantian morality, you cannot use a human life as a means to an end, especially if that end is not at least another life. And that aside, to what end does Rayden have in mind when he slaughters innocent people with Liu's shell? What would that even achieve?
Granted, this may deem Rayden more as insane than evil. But Rayden being good is out of the question.

Oh well finally, another respectable taker.
Nu uh. lol
Alright seriously now...Allow me to break it down a bit.
Evidence doesn't exist to make him evil per canon. Only that he's doing what he's doing to protect Earth.
"Known violators and their constituents".
1. Shujinko (done)
2. Shinnok (war on the heavens - like Darksied for DC might I add)
3. Onaga (now without kamidogu, unlike the MKD intro)
4. Shao Kahn
5. Quan Chi
6. Shang Tsung
7. Clans and henchmen associated with the known evil hierarchy.
8. Might even take offense to Taven if MKA's Konquest Mode fight confirms to be canon.
I always kept it to myself cuz I don't like to speculate that far outside the canon, but I always took that quote as an open-ended closing statement(/oxymoron).
Like:
"my corpse retains my knowledge of martial arts and has killed many innocents......on the way to finding and killing who Raiden sent me to oust."
Shujinko is a direct example of an "innocent" getting in the way of the job Raiden is trying to do. *shrugs* People are scared of corpses', so I wouldn't be surprised that the champs corpse meet random opposition from time to time.
Not "in control of", more like "responsible for". Dictating to, or commanding. Makes him liable for whatever Liu's corpse does iMo. Site secondary definitions of necromancy. "Speaking to, or commanding of the dead". Makes sense cuz he "intertwined" with two of the biggest sorcerers in MK during thier fight in the Ether(my sig). Both necromancers, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. They both command the dead to some extent. Quan is from hell and summons the skulls, Shang siphons, and moves around the souls...ect
To the second line of questioning, the goal is quite clear. Until he kills the baddies, "by any means necessary" is employed. That, could get Raiden the harm-free Earth he's looking for IF he achieves the goal. He's got a lot of work to do though....but then again he's eternal, and the only threat on the list that is eternal right now, is Shinnok.
But he's beaten Shinnok before as an Elder God(w/help admittedly), when he was more powerful than he is now, as a fallen Elder God. Shouldn't be as much of a task according to history. Well, unless knowledge of Raiden's make-up proves to be a damning factor.
--
Raiden's not insane either. In his own bio he claims lucidity, and awareness previous to his sacrifice -- after reconstituting back on earth. Ruthless is not insane depending on the perception of the person looking at the situation. People on Earth who trust and rely on Raiden's protection might view it differently than another god, or someone from another realm. The actions of one ruthless individual are (rightfully) just misunderstood. We know what he's doing though, and so does how they wrote that he understands what he's doing. So, he knows full well, it's just can he stop himself...
So, I'd say Insanity is out of the question until proven otherwise. He's still a good guy, he just pulls the trigger more frequently now. haha..
--
side note: I gave the example of Martin Luther King vs Malcolm X as a good contrast to "Light Raiden" vs "Dark Raiden" before, and it plays.
Both good guys, really different approaches to the same problem.

I wouldn't mind really what kind of character Raiden comes back as. Either as the pissed off Elder God or they way he was before Deception. Though, I am having a feeling that they might not have Raiden come back as the pissed off Elder God for this game only.
