I think what if MK8 put a samurai in the game. Could be earthrealm type or outworld type.

Mortal Kombat is based on Ninjas, not Samurais.

Samurai and Ninja were often enemies, so a samurai wouldn't really be out of place.

Technically, Hotaru is sort of a samurai-esque character.

Yeah, I was about to say. Hotaru was based on samurais.

And unless I'm mistaken, Dairou was originally planned to be a "samurai-esque" character as well in the concept art for Deadly Alliance.

I find Hotaru more like a Zealot than a Samurai.

I don't get how Dairou is supposed to be a ronin samurai. Samurai being of Japanese origin (aside from him being from Orderrealm), why does he have a Chinese (Manchu) hairstyle? I never got that.

Hotaru looks more like a crossover between a samurai and a dark knight.

I would love for MK to have a real samurai character, and is something I've wanted since Deadly Alliance. Take Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur or Yoshimitsu for example. They kick ass.

Good idea.

Just make the ones that we have....better. Although, I don't really want a "straight up" samurai in MK, I prefer the anomalies that we have there already.

I like Hotaru and Dairou, so keep them, but just fix them.

I agree. If they did make a new samaurai based warrior though, he or she would need to be extremely original and not just a typical samaurai like Mitsurugi in Soul Calibur.

I think that having a samurai in the upcoming Mk is a good idea and can bring a more in-depth detail of Japanese fighting to the game it's only downfall would be a slow character.

Honestly, I don't care what characters are in the game as long as it plays great, and starts a storyline where characters don't die and then come back in the next game.

I'm not sure what some of you people think a zealot is, but you can be a zealot and a samurai. It would be like saying a person can't be a democrat because they are meter reader. The two have nothing to do with one another. A zealot is a fanatic. Last I checked, anyone, regardless of their occupation, can be a fanatic.

But anyways, I have no problem with a samurai being in Mortal Kombat, and it's not like that's the most outlandish suggestion to begin with. MK has had half human dragons, centuars, elementals, Gods, ninjas, actors, monks, sorcerers, vampires, military... The list goes on and on.

I would be fine with seeing some new ideas. Personally, I think that Hotaru's outfit certainly gives a samurai appearance, so in that sense, yeah, we've had one already. But he wasn't the normal text book definition of a samurai, if for no other reason than he's not from Earthrealm.

So as a new idea, I think that it could work, and I'd prefer that over the more fantastical ideas like centuars. What's next? A mermaid race? How about a race of half human half badgers? I really hope that they stick with human, or at least human appearing characters.

A Samurai isn't too far fetched. Think about it: An ice-throwing ninja, an undead shaolin monk. I would think that just about anything would fit into this game. Personally, I would like to see something like an ex-convict. Some ultra-violent, scruffy lookin dude in the orange jumpsuit that just kicks all kinds of ass.

I've always wanted to see an old west preacher type charactar.....that would be sweet.

on topic.....a straight forward samurai in the mk universe....it could work...he'd have to have a hell of a back story and moves to back it up though.

This post and Baraka407's are the winners of this thread, in my opinion.

Do you want a samurai in appearance or personality? You've got Hotaru, who is inspired by a samurai. Dairou was originally going to be a ronin samurai, but his character was amended over time. Yes, it does appear more Chinese now, but it's still easy to see some samurai influence.

The samurai influence is there in Mortal Kombat. If you want someone with a samurai personality, again, you have a few characters who really fit the mold. If what you're after is a Japanese fighter from Earthrealm who looks like a samurai and serves an emperor, then I think you might be getting too "straight up" as Predator said.

We don't have any "normal ninjas," so I don't think we should get a "normal samurai."

Was just going to say, Dairou isn't that far from a Samurai....I remember in some early concepts he looked more Samurai-ish and one of them I remember he has a mask or something, early on.

He was actually intended btw to be in MK:DA but MK team didn't have enough time to put him in when they had the idea for him, thus why he was in MK:D instead.

I'd like to see more Samurai like characters or straight out Samurai dudes in MK later on for sure glasses
