Sub-Zero's slide move looks much better in this one it seems. Not sure if I agree with Sub-Zero having a teleport yet. HOPEFULLY there is a reasoning behind it, because he has never had a teleport move before, and changing 16 years of history, video game or otherwise, is pretty rough.

The slide is the highlight for me. I'm not a Sub-Zero fan overall. But this game has me liking him much.

Only thing so far I don't like other than the entire concept for the game is Sub's teleport. As long as there's a plausible reason he can do it, I can let it slide though and possibly begin to enjoy it.

Ah, you did. My mistake, man. If they have enough desire to explain the clear similarity, maybe they'll tie it in with Sub's relationship to Smoke. Maybe. Even as a Smoke fan, that wouldn't really do it for me. Having the power to create ice doesn't logically entail the ability to open dimensional wormholes.

On the other hand, if Subzero had Smoke's teleport exactly (smoke dust and all), they could explain that the same way they explained Kenshi's telekinesis: Smoke taught Subzero the technique as a token of friendship. I don't think that would be a huge stretch since the Kenshi/Ermac situation is evidence that mystical abilities are not innate talents, but learned arts.

Actually, I think that would be amazingly... amazing. The story may not be canon, but the character histories are. At least I don't have to believe that cold people can defy spatial laws. Still, there would have to be chronological truth, since Smoke and Sub have apart for a while. No one seems to know when this game takes place.

Sub-Zero should be able to perform all of the ice moves in MK history(including Frosts' moves), but make it look as easy as it does for him to perform that teleport.

I think he should probably be using the moisture in the air to create things out of nowhere.

His classic freeze move looks good though. They could've even done something to make that look easier too though. Like a distanced backhand that looks like an "ice-body" sliding across the screen or whatever. Kinda remenisent of Noob Saibots MK3-T clone throw move? Just a still, statue-like figure instead of the running clone of Noob.

meh, I guess the title "Grandmaster" isn't worth so much though.

Agreed. He shouldn't have to reposition his entire body in concentration to perform one freeze ball. That may have been understandable in MKII, but not now. Especially now, since he has the medallion (assumingly, of course. I'd be disappointed if he didn't).

Distance should be less relevant as well. If Scorpion can create fire from ten yards away, I would imagine Subzero would be able to manipulate temperature at that same distance.

Not saying I want MK to turn into DBZ, but progression would make more sense.

Since when do teleports in Mortal Kombat make any sense? The most random of characters sometimes have them (Kung Lao), and that's always been the case.

Didnt Shang Tsung have normal eyes in MKDA-MKA?

There isnt really a big deal with his eyes, though I do admit that whit ewould had been cooler.

I love the way they made Sonya¡s Energy Rings, the effect looks wicked!

LMAO! Good pics Temp.

Oh! Predator, forgot to say THANK YOU for the awesome 40,000 pictures you posted. Those look great. I have like a million captured pics already.

I was wondering, do you (or anyone) have any idea of where I could download the Gametrailers vid? Or see it in great quality? The one in yoitube is great, but the quality isnt that good, and the one on the site of GT is too huge that I had to watch it by parts (because it kept freezing in some parts).

Well, point taken, but the difference is that Kung Lao's training would yield something like teleportation. It's logical, even if it isn't possible. The ability to freeze doesn't yield the ability to teleport. It would be like Jarek shooting Cyrax's green net.

Though it is possible that Subzero could have learned the art of teleportation independently of his abilities from another source. That I could buy. But if Boon wishes to convey that Subzero reached a level of cryomancy so high that he could teleport... doesn't work for me. It just doesn't make sense. Magic, on the other hand, does makes sense (even if it isn't possible), but I would like to think that Subzero's powers are limited to cryomancy. We have no reason to believe otherwise.

Yea he did. I don't wanna neglect that fact, but I'm starting to get the impression that it has something to do with "when" in his aging process he will have the whited out eyes. Maybe the more dead he becomes; the more in need to soul steal he becomes, the presents of pupils disappears? It's a thought.

There also may be the case that they want the characters who are not "god-like", to be as "mortal" as possible? "Mortal Kombat" so to speak. They may have come in contact with that argument on these boards actually, and made the adjustment to disassemble that argument.

No Gods in MKvsDC? Oooh then I'd really be detached from this entry.

NP

No, I don't know anywhere else at the moment.

TemperaryUserName Wrote:

I like your perspective on it. Even if it crosses the element boundary, Smoke and Sub-Zero were from the same types of teachings. I could see one of them teaching the other one, one of each others moves eventually.

SZ: Hey man, I always wondered how you did that disappear thing..

Smoke: Really? I'll show you how to do that, if you show me how deal with the cold. ..I hate the cold!

SZ: Hey watch it, Smoke!

===

Anywho, as much as that would be interesting, I think I like the idea of skills aquired through logic, and relativity better. People expand out from what they already know, and have been doing. So, why no "Ice Guards" that are the equivalent to a block? Where's the "Landslide" move, that is controlled by SZ like pulling the rug from underneath the opponent.

Where's his "blizzard control"?

As always, there's a ton of ideas I'd have for characters(especially element based characters) But the issue remains is how to implement.

As for your theory on Tsung, its quite possible.

And as for Sub-Zeros teleport, I, once again, agree.

I don't mind Shang Tsung sporting longer hair again... but why change his Deadly Aliance warddrobe if it works so well? I never liked any of his previous clothes before DA.
But i'm got they added him. After all, he is one of the best villians of MK

Ps
Awsome update... can't wait to see more grin

I'm glad that the characters look better in-game than in the renders. The game starts to look good. Too bad that Shang Tsungs design lacks feeling. He looks a bit dull. Same goes for the Metropolis stage...where it looked great in the render..it looks dull in-game. Still..this game is looking better then before. I hope I can see some gameplay soon..because that will be a deciding factor. EDIT: Saw the video. I like the combo's..mostly the teleport combo's. The kick/punch moves look woody tough. I hope they will make them more fluid. Free fall and klose kombat don't really excite me...I'd rather see them ditching them in the next game and concentrate on the basics of the fighting mechanic. In conclusion...I must say that I really want to play the game when it comes outt (as a rental). IMO an improvement, because MKA didn't bother me at all.

It'd be nice if Shang took Vandall's soul from the start of the game, thus achieving the true immortality he always wanted.

Are you really that dissapointed with Shang Tsung?

I know he looks different, but it does feel like the sorcerer we all love. He even looks more evil then in the past games.

Plus, his pony tail hair rocks. Im glad they were inspired by his MK3-MKDA look for this game (but yeah, I miss the awesome robes, but a change was necessary).

After being out a few days with no damn pc, was in for repairs I finally got it back and can discuss. I stayed up all night couple days ago to watch it on Spike hehe, awesomeness!

Well, I must say a few things.

A. Graphics own, don't care what anyone says this game looks HOT.

B.Shang Tsung, my friends hate the new look but I think he looks "alright" I like his moves having more movie detail now, examp:soul suck, fireball skull etc

C.Sub having a teleport is rather "interesting" I think his new clone/freezing himself move will be annoying as fuck to play against online....I can see it now lol.

D. Scorpion having his MK2 leg take down move back looks hot, I think I'll be using him more in this game then previous 2 MK games. Flash looks awesome, Supes does too. Sonya having her classic moves back all of them plus some she'll be pretty damn good too.

E. I'm really excited to play this game now, personally I like the free fall, wall grab and smash and regular kombat mode the most, the boxing mode now that I get more of a look at it looks interesting but I do find the other camera fighting better.

F. Please MIdway/DC tell me at some point Ermac is in this game, probably look as great as anything!!! I know he would!

I'm hyped for this game, no more dial ups and a more custom combo system looks awesome. Will take getting used to but I'm hyped regardless.smile

I did say before all this discussion began that I didn't feel the teleport suited Sub-Zero. It does look like a cross between those that belong to Rain, Smoke and Meat and imo it goes to show the non canon side of the game along with the inclusion of Sub-Zero's Slide. If you remember back to MKDA Konquest, they announced during Frost's training that Sub-Zero had progressed beyond such novice tactics. One could assume he no longer uses the Slide and that it's inclusion here is for the sake of capturing more of the old school MK element. As such, we probably don't need an explanation as to how or why he's teleporting.
I agree that Sub-Zero doesn't need a teleport. He should be using the Ice Clone to evade things like projectiles or simply using a quick ice slide sidestep tactic to move out of harms way. If hit, he can flash freeze any wounds and sustain himself. I had plans to use such tactics in fanfic . updated concept for Sub-Zero and I think they'd be pretty cool to see in game.
Another thing to look at is the possibility that this could shed some light on Smoke being in the game. They could be using Sub-Zero so test out his teleport move. However, I doubt this will be the case.
ThePredator151 Wrote:

He does. This is how his Kori Blade is made. The same goes for Frost's Daggers. Again, see MKDA Konquest.
