that is true. u cant argue with that. but alot of mk fans were disapointed. and i wish conquest mode was like shaolin monks or at least armageddon. that would be nice.
to some people. if it was on the wii it couldve goten more money. that would be a reason, but call of duty has a huge amount of blood and gore and it did 100x better thn mkvsdcu. but if warner bros did buy midway how could they improve it? they couldn't that's the problem. i think warner bros want kids to buy there games. get this, MORTAL KOMBAT WASNT MADE FOR KIDS!!!! i think it was about the popularity.

Yea, that was before the ESRB rating system was implemented too. Try to find one that was geared towards kids after Hilary, and all the "mommy power" happened. lol
That thing even has the US Olympics stamp of approval on it. Not no mo'.

That cartoon failed quickly, and it wasn't exactly a part of your Saturday morning line up either.
Why do you think?

Why do you think?

That...wasn't part of the discussion. I stated that MK has been marketed towards kids. I figured that was enough proof, but I guess not.
And last time I checked, it *was* part of a weekend cartoon block on the USA network. It's not exactly prime-time television. It was for the kids, plain and simple.

Well, I didn't dispute that. My point was, that it didn't last long being marketed that way regardless of it's initial intended demographic.
Y'know, they had to stop doing that because it's not an immature game. Never really was, especially concerning the games' mere premise.

I was just contesting what you said, since your point wandered heavily from mine, but you implied you were trying to counter my argument. It wasn't whether or not the cartoon was a failed marketing gimmick...it was the fact they marketed MK that way in the first place.

You make too much of things sometimes. I don't always wanna argue. heh..
WB could probably buy Midway and do what Square/Enix has done with Eidos - they purchased the company flat-out, but are continuing to let them operate independently and keep the "Eidos" name.
And considering how much it costs to develop new-gen games, that $30 million price point for Midway is almost chump-change.

Holy fucking crap that's actually kind of a disturbing picture. I think those kids just shit their pants, I know I would have.

dude seriously, wb should juust stick with movies, not games. if it's anyone who should buy midway it should be ea. have u seen dead space, that's one of the goreast games i can think of. it's really gruesome, and ea has intensly good games. unlike wb.

I am sure EA wouldn't release MK games each year...

my uncle works at ea, they are willing as long as the mk team is there. that's also like saying they wont release madden nfl each year but it still hapen. oh and nice picture of scorpion. Man what would make midway not go out of buissness? a new MK? i wish there was an Mortal Kombat like shoalin monks exept u create a charecter and u had more freedom, like mkd konquest. but still.....

I think it's strange most of us are looking at a worst-case scenario. It doesn't seem like anybody is going "oh yeah! They'd be perfect!" since pretty much all the companies mentioned have some bad history at certain points in their existence.
It seems most fans are worried that the final product will be neutered due to franchise misuse or that the violence and gore of the game will be toned down, as it was done considerably in MK vs DC. Those are all pretty legitimate fears considering just how uncertain a new publisher would be for the ailing franchise.
Let's be honest, even if Midway wasn't tanking, MK needs a serious shot in the arm. Either a new studio will completely blow everyone and all the critics out of the water or we'll just keep getting more mediocre to awful installments... which has been the norm for several years now.
I'll stick with my original opinions that MK's initial promise of a "darker, gritter" game is exactly what the franchise needs. Far less camp, cheesy B-movie dialogue and stories, and some actually maturity in a "Mature"-rated game. While many gamers have grown up, the MK franchise keeps growing more and more childish and immature, and I'd like that to change.
Sure, MK has at times been marketed towards kids, such as the PG-13 movie which spun-off the kids cartoon, but, c'mon, even Robocop had a kid's cartoon and the original film is insanely violent. The new Wolverine Origins game, for example, dares to avoid resting on the established PG-13 movie setting, kid's cartoon camp, and even comic book restrictions and is dark, violent, and bloody as hell.
And that's what I'd like to see. While we fans don't have a say in which studio picks up the franchise, we can only hope that the publishers will treat the franchise with respect and not like a childish cash-cow that they can milk, knowing the fans will buy any MK game. Hope for the best, expect the worst.... I'm just eager to have the whole situation finished soon so at least we could hear what sort of tone the next MK game will have.

u r very right my friend. it's unlikely impossible now because madworld has a very high gore rate. ive played it, it was funner and gorier than mk. then someone suggest an idea 2 midway.

i think that would be coo if capcom bought it maybe a sreet fighter vs mk game i would love to rip dan in half or scorpion sub zero vs ryu and ken that would be awsome

i dont know, street fighter 4 was kind of stupid. if they should collide with anyone it should be like UFC or maybe Teken. Chuck Liddel vs Scorpion. But i like the idea of dan getting riped in half by scorpion. Well maybe if u could walk around, then it would be a good game. but still, capcom's only intrest in midway would something like Unreal Tornament. What about activision, they happen to make really good games. they usually release a spiderman or guitar hero game each year.

then y dont they just make there own company? that is if idway goes out of buissness. UFC disputed 09 is the closest fighting game with blood to mk. street fighter and teken are the only other ones. well teken might due. how about NO ONE ELSE COLLIDES WITH MK!!!!!!!!!!!! dc shouldve collided with marvel, not mk. y cant we just ad new mk charecters. and just make konques like armageddon and deception. dindt they ever think of that?
Uh...there's Virtua Fighter, The "Soul" series, Guilty Gear, Blazblue, King of Fighters, etc...
...none of which would make good MK crossovers. If you're going to have UFC vs. MK, you might as well have WWE vs. MK, which is slightly more feasible (albeit still shitty).
