Parts of the original film did this too and even ignored the fact that it was a tournament at the end IE Johnny Cage not taking on Shang Tsung after he beat Goro.

*sigh*

Shang Tsung made a deal with Johnny Cage; an exception to whatever tournament rules were already in place. Hence why Shang Tsung challenged Sonya and took her to Outworld. This was made quite clear in the film. And if it makes you happy, Shang even challenged Johnny Cage (like a pussy) right before Liu Kang interrupted his cowardly act.

The only other "random" fight was Reptile and that doesn't count considering he was a "hidden fighter" and the movie paid homage to that fact.

The fights with the masked guards obviously don't count either because they weren't even competitors. They were fighting the chosen warriors for snooping around where they didn't belong.

So now, what on God's beautiful green and blue Earth did the first movie do to not be a tournament?

Maybe if I watch Annihilation again I will learn to appreciate Season II ................... maybe.

LOVED IT!!! however...really wish it was longer...but this could have been like 40 hours worth and i probably would have said that anyway...hehe

IDK. I'm kind of mixed on it. On one hand I applaud them for trying to create its own MK universe with Legacy. I also think the episodes flowed better than the first season. The story seemed more cohesive, rather than a mash-up of origin like season 1.

I just wasn't crazy about it. Some of the fight scenes where lackluster compared to the first season and I'm just not keen on them turning certain thinks on its head. Its not just a matter of liu kang being bad either. Johnny Cage seemed like a huge pussy and .

you don't know that... something tells me one of them is alive..and we both know what happens to sub-zero so really could be a interesting twist

There were things it did wrong, and there were things it did right. And the things that were done right paid off in spades. Unfortunately there was more wrong than right.

Keep watching after the credits for MK 'around the office' scenes. Some are really funny - up there with 'Cooking with Scorpion'

I appreciate the effort but, more was wrong then right....alot more. 80:20% or like...90:10% ratio. Not that it wasn't a good presentation, because it was decent but even that looked worse than the first season in a few cases. Felt like they traded alot of other things for the ability to shoot in different locations. It was just not right a lot more of the time than it was right.

Couple of "sore thumbs":

1.) Sub-Zero/Scorpion was all jacked. The biggest sticking point for me is that the older brother Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) was supposed to be the hot head, the merciless killer, etc...and was the one who should've been killed first because it wouldn't be hard for Hanzo (after he'd turned to Scorpion) to imagine that Bi-Han would attack and kill Scorpions family. Why'd they mix that all up? The younger brother sub-zero is supposed to get a little older, come back, and seek out scorpion for killing his older brother, Bi-Han...how's that supposed to happen when both of them are dead already?

* I also despise Bi-Hans costume. that thing is horrible coming from kuai liang's costume in the first season. THAT one was awesome...and should have been worn by the younger brother after the older brother dies. Idk wth is goin on here... lol

2.) Johnny Caged was a really big fail. Not because he was all campy, he was just the wrong actor altogether. Especially coming after that new actor in the first season. I thought Casper could've worked but, nah...they should've kept the guy from the first season.

3.) I actually like how they started with liu kang. The thing that's messing with me about his storyline is timeline. The Kung Lao/Liu Kang story looks jumbled between events that could've happened before MK1, between MK1 & 2, and after MK2. It just doesn't make sense at all.

So far this is a disappointment. I appreciate that it steps away from the source material (which, granted is a mess too), but it steps too far away from it, imo.

It's more like the victory of style and direction above coherence. Kinda like the 1987 Batman movie.

I was extremely disappointed.

I could go off on everything that was canonically wrong (i.e. the Lin Kuei are supposed to be Chinese), but that would be pointless. This is a different universe, and an adaptation.

However, I don't believe that this Legacy II did any justice to the Mortal Kombat franchise.

The acting was terrible. There were more plot-holes than I could count. The fight scenes were decent, but that didn't make up for all of the serious errors the series contained.

Could someone please explain to me how Kenshi travels approximately 900 years to fight in this tournament? Same for Scorpion and Sub-Zero?
How come Kitana just believes that this random guy in the forest is really her biological father (admittedly, that question is also a critique of the first season, but it's still a valid question) – sure, he's telling the truth, but how does she know that? The tournament is never explained, and how and why Liu Kang became the protector of Earthrealm is never established (we, as MK fanatics may know the answer, but the average viewer would not). What was so supernatural about Stryker and Johnny Cage was also never established.

I could write more, but I'm tired now, and severely upset.

This is possibly the saddest a video has ever made me.

I already posted in the newslead thread. I'm pretty disappointed. I appreciate the effort and all but...bleh. ALOT of it doesn't make sense. Doesn't make sense according to source material, doesn't make sense according to an entirely new take on it...alot of it doesn't make sense.

Sub-Zero's paint ball gear?? wtf?

I'm surprised at how many people don't like his ridiculous outfit considering the ridiculous outfits that populate the game.

Basically I'm hearing that it's faithful in that it's a hot mess and a lot of campy fun.

There will always be some bullshit excuse for him to come back. This IS MK after all. Even if it is a different universe it defies logic. So I don't think he'll stay dead. They will find a way to bring him back I promise that.

Knowing that it is a COMPLETELY different take on the universe, I dig it. Some things were super lackluster, some were really well done. Overall, Season 1 was MUCH better.
Quick points:
Kenshi was a badass.
This version of Ermac(costume) came straight from TWD....
I still hate Scorpions costume
Fighting was sub-par on most levels
I actually really dig Liu Kang's direction
Needs more cohesive story, too jumbled around
A lot of flare, not enough substance

The angry Liu Kang kinda grew on me and they did well with casting each character. I liked the Kenshi fight scene best, although it was short. Overall I enjoyed the second season of this take on the MK Universe.

However I have two gripes:

1. Ermac looks like Baraka's cousin.
and much more importantly
2. WTF happened to Kuai Liang? That's not even close to the Sub-Zero I know!
