I understand we all have our favorite characters, but I've been lurking on quite a few MK boards and I have seen little to no talk about new characters. I know MK4- DA's new additions were really week but that doesn't mean NetherRealm Studios can't come up with something cool. The Nestalgia kick this franchise has been on over the last few years WILL be the death nail of this series if they don't do anything new.

Not at all. I was hoping for some new additions as well. Maybe if this is a true reboot and not just a retelling, some new characters could be added to the mix.

I'm hoping for around 3-5 new characters. I wouldn't be TOO dissapointed if there were no knew people, but still, it would kinda suck

Preferably on a roster of (simply a guesstimate) around 30 characters, I'd like about 5 of them to be new. We still know nothing of the storyline, so hopefully after E3 we'll have a better idea what's in store in this front. It'd be a terrible shame not to have new characters though. Like I said in the main thread, this feels like the first real MK game since 2004 to me. Armageddon had two new characters but that was really a hollow sort of thing, and obviously in the most recent game we had the MK all-stars. I miss interesting introductions from games like MK:DA and MK:D. I'm not sure they were very well liked (except Kenshi) but I liked a good number of them personally. I really want to see some new faces, even if they aren't as good as some of the older characters variety is a blessing.

New characters for what? So they can appear in one game, be ripped apart by fans, and then thrown in the trash without given a chance for developement? Appearing in ONE game and one trilogy knock-off(Mavado,Nitara,Ashrah, ect) isn't enough for us to go "Oh wow, these characters suck! Let's throw them out!". When are we going to start giving these new characters a CHANCE?

We got new characters in MK4 and they were kicked out in order to make room for the MKDA ones, then the MKDA ones were tossed out in favor of the MKD ones ect. It's a neverending cycle.

Unless these new characters will be given a chance to be DEVELOPED then I don't want any.

I'm tired of people asking for new characters and then rip them apart when they DO get 'em.

Sorry dude. I've seen some of the other boards and they're fifteen kinds of suck.

I have seen little to no talk about new characters.

That's because, in the short term, we don't need any. MKA's roster had 60 something characters and very few of those have been developed in any way. I'm certainly not opposed to some fresh faces, but I'd rather see something cool done with the existing fighters first.

Exactly! Let's actually focus on the 64 undeveloped ones we already have.

You know, I hate to be a douche (well, more of a douche) and contradict my earlier post, but I did think of one exception. I would totally love to have a female version of Scorpion to feud with Frost. To sell the rest of you on this concept I need only one word: vag-spear.

I think at this point it's more important that they release a solid game with solid gameplay and solid story. Then they can begin to build on what they've done with the next installments, including adding new characters.

While I do agree with you. I'm just personally bored with a lot these guys. Sub-Zero freezes people, Raiden shocks shit, Millena's a cunt, scorpion has the audacity to stab people in the chest and demand people to " get over here", If Johnny Cage was never in a another MK title; I wouldn't complain and I like the character.

I think most of us are coming from a STORY stand point. Many of these characters are not developed mainly because they've had the same story in each game. But my main concern is the MK4 and up characters who haven't been given a chance to grow AT ALL. Why don't we change that? Then we can focus on adding new characters.

Fair enough. I just personally wouldn't want new characters thrown in for a superficial purpose. But to each his/her own.

I did want some new characters until I saw the trailer.

Now I think I'd just like to see them do something good with what's there. Gimme like...Sareena, Havik, Fujin, Kai even. Characters that haven't really had a chance to stretch out in the story dept. Even though they'd be familiar faces. This may be a perfect time to solidify a couple more of the obscure characters, and really challenge themselves with a coming game. Where purely new characters can be utilized better.

I wouldn't mind some new character or two, I just think at this point its still going to be hard to care about them. That's partially why I vote so strongly for the knoquest//kak mode. i figure by the time we're tired of creating things, we'll be nice and ready to accept new faces.

So no, i don't want much more than a solid MK game this go round...I don't even want abstract characters like Nitara for this one....and I like her.

Gameplay>New Characters.

This is literally a game where the essence just feels like classic MK. I highgly doubt we will see any new characters, just a huge hunch. IF we were to see any new, I would immagine it would be somebody whos already been known by the fans as this is a game for them. Hornbuckle?

regardless, Gameplay is most important to me. I hated jophny cage for so long but MKSM and MK9 just completely redeemed him in my eyes, all because of gameplay.

I'd rather not see new characters at all unless it's a bona fide sequel. Let's just make the best MK ever, and when it's time to resume the main story, we'll introduce new blood.

But even then, I really don't want to see more than three new characters per game. If they make five, and they're all up to quality like Li Mei and Havik, then sure, but I just don't see that happening.

I don't know enough to consider this a reboot. The inclusion of post MK3 characters kind of makes my stomach ill... I hope it's just a filler for trailer's sake and making us more confused about the final roster.

But if this is to be a reboot, I expect MK1-2 classics to return, then everyone else be new fighters. I honestly don't even like to see MK3 losers back in the game. The cyborg shit is very old, and I've always hated Nightwolf.

We all know that Mortal Kombat took the world's top fighters to compete. Are you trying to tell me that the original MK1 truthfully represented such a roster? NO. It was limited by 1990's technology so all we got were probably the last remaining 7 survivors of MK1 to fight with. This time around we need to see a bit more.

If this game doesn't have anyone new, I guess I can deal with it, but I will be renting rather than buying. Then setup camp for the wait for MKX on what's probably going to be Playstation 4 by then.

Since MK9 is apparently more of the same we've had... I want MKX to be the REAL "wipe the slate clean fresh start" we've been promised.

Completely agree on most of what you said. Well mostly, I do like some of the MK3 characters, like Sektor. I also thought that maybe they are trying to confuse us about the final roster. As in, lets pretend most these guys are in...then completely change it. BUT I highly doubt it. I just really wanted to know what happened after MKA. Who survived, who's the new villian blah blah etc. Just a shame we've had to wait so long to know. Gutted. It looks like a reboot tbh. And of course I am excited and all, it's new MK!!, looks hella lot of fun too. I just really wanted a true MKA sequel. At the moment, it doesn't look this way. Oh well, We'll have to wait and see till E3!

If there are to be any new characters (preferably 1 or 2), I'd only want them introduced through DLC. Say like the DLC pack could include 2 arenas, 2 established MK characters and 1 new character or something. Have 'em come with a bio and then create some depth for 'em in the next game. But that's only if we're forced to see new faces. I'm not opposed to it, I would rather them do something with the mess of a clump of story they already have.

Ever consider the possibility that the whole reason the other fifty schmucks who were at the tournament weren't playable and died was because they sucked and didn't have superpowers or anything making them worth playing as?
There's a giant leap in skill from "one of the world's best fighters" to "one of the world's best fighters who ALSO learned how to shoot his chi out his hands." or "One of the world's best fighters and also was born with ice powers" or "A god in human form" or "One of the world's best fighters and that was before he came back from the dead and can breathe fire and teleport now." The MK cast is better than the best, that's why they survived Shang's tournament.
And that is why we play as them and not "the guy who's just a Judo master" or "the Muay Thai world champion". Besides, it doesn't really do the series any good to introduce more characters just for the MK1 part, then kill them off right away because canon says no one lives through the tournament but the original 7.
