1. New Character

To me it just wouldn't feel like an MK game without some new characters. That was part of the fun of waiting for past MK games, see which new characters they will come up with. To me we also really didn't have a new character since Deception, Taven and Daegon were just kind of thrown into Armageddon and obviously time spent coming up with new characters wasn't a factor for the game.

2. Rain

Though I don't care about Rain at all, storyline wise he is the most fitting character to use, even though he didn't really have a significant contribution to the plot till MK Armageddon.

3. Shinnok

He would be the next fitting character plot wise because we know that he was watching the MK1-3 events very closely through Noob Saibot and Mileena. He was a behind the scenes guy, not to mention I agree that the fallen Elder God character deserves a chance to really shine.

4. Kenshi

Don't really care much for Kenshi, but I like him more than Tanya which is why he gets the number 4 spot with me.

5. Tanya

Don't care much for Tanya either, she had no role in the original version of the trilogy and not that interesting of a character.

6. Cyber Smoke

Though Cyber Smoke is my favorite version, I put him last under the assumption that human Smoke made the cut. No real point in having 2 versions of the same character. Human Smoke made it in, I can't win with my favorite version all the time.

6. Tanya - Not a fan!
5. Shinnok - sorry, too much like Shang Tsung. I'll wait.
4. Kenshi - I really like Kenshi but I don't think he should share the spotlight with Ermac.
3. Cybersmoke - Even though it's the same guy, and it makes no sense that he fights another version of himself, his moves would be different, so I don't mind as
much.
2. Rain - Since we're going retro, let's go Palatte Swap. (sp?)
1. New Character - I'm thinking Lui Kang's brother personnally.

I am so tired of this stupid, baseless, entirely BLIND FAITH-based argument.

It is not fucking possible for Human Smoke to have an interesting plot. Everyone who likes Human Smoke says that but none of them have proof that it's possible to write one, they all try to give me some shallow fan-fictiony idea and their ideas SUCK because they're not writers and they don't know the first thing about storytelling. Stories are built on TRAGEDY, GROWTH, and CHANGE, you have to have a hurdle to fucking overcome. If nothing happens to your characters, then NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS.

Being forced down onto a lab table and stripped of his humanity is the only thing that makes him interesting. The ONLY FUCKING THING.

Capturing him and forcing it on him is the only thing that makes Sektor and Cyrax interesting. Those boring assholes WANTED to be god damned robots, their storylines don't fucking matter until they seperate from the Lin Kuei and become unique in the sequels.

And being sad that he couldn't save his friend/trying to help him remember who he is is the only thing that makes Sub-Zero's MK3 story interesting. WHO FUCKING CARES about him being hunted by robots if he's not friends with the robots and could just stop and kill them without regret?

Not converting Smoke doesn't ruin one character, it ruins FOUR.

Fucking signed.

The only way I keep myself sane is by telling myself that Cyber Smoke will still be in the cutscenes and everything, and what Boon meant is whether we'd want a DLC of him as an actual playable character.

I wouldn't want him to be human or a cyborg. They should run with his Shaolin Monks look. If anything, I suppose most would consider that to be "human" because of his overall look, but I haven't seen any translucent humans made of smoke lately.

As for Smoke, I'd prefer Cyber Smoke being the main and having no playable Human Smoke at all...

He wasn't translucent or made of smoke in Shaolin Monks. That's Deception. In Shaolin Monks, he looks like this:

It could well be that both versions are in the game, but just as alt costumes.

Look, it's definitely possible to come up with a decent story for a human Smoke character. I mean, shit, they were able to make Ermac, Rain, Motaro, and the aforementioned Sektor and Cyrax interesting, and those fools were complete deadbeats in the 2D days. It can't be THAT hard to write a plausible Smoke storyline that keeps him human.

Smoke becomes the spokesperson for an anti-smoking campaign because he loves irony. Great story or greatest ever?

The only reason to have cyborgs is to have at least one go "Oh god I am trapped in my body, they operated on me, my organs are gone and my skin is covered in metal, I'm being programmed to do things I don't want to do, I can't stop myself, this is a living nightmare" while Sub-Zero goes "Oh god, my friend is trapped in a living nightmare, I failed to prevent this, I feel so bad, must do something to save him."

Sub-Zero and Cyrax are not friends, so it's not like you can pass the buck here just because Cyrax decided he wanted to be human again in MK4.

It doesn't matter if they write Casa-fuckin'-Blanca or Citizen Kane with Smoke as the main character, it's immediately a waste of time. He cannot not be a cyborg or nothing about cyborgs matters, it's all just "Meh, two dudes we don't care about are hunting us. What a...moderate inconvenience. Wait here for five seconds while I freeze them, then rip their fucking spines out, so they won't be chasing us anymore and we can get back to fighting Shao Kahn."

Here's my well thought out response...

Let me 1st qualify this list by saying, it's COMPLETELY dependant on whether or not Human Smoke is already in the game. Assuming Human Smoke is IN, which frankly seems likely based on this list... I only need one Smoke, so Cyber-Smoke falls to last place. Assuming Human Smoke ISN'T IN... well that's a whole different ball of wax. That shoots Cyber-Smoke straight to the TOP since imo, Smoke (in either incarnation) is my most wanted of these six characters... but ONLY if he isn't already on the roster. If he is, I don't need a second version of him. Get me?

That said, my list has 7 slots...

1. Cyber-Smoke (assuming Human Smoke ISN'T already in)
2. Rain
3. Tanya
4. Shinnok
5. New Character
6. Kenshi
7. Cyber-Smoke (assuming Human Smoke IS already in)

Smoke mess aside...

I put Rain first not because I love him to death or anything... he's not even my favorite character on this list... but because I feel like if we have every (non-Chameleon) ninja EXCEPT Rain... it would just feel weird... to me... I'm anal about stuff like that. Can't help it. If Rain is the only MKT character whose name doesn't end in hameleon that gets snubbed... I think yeah, he should get the spot. Completes the set.

I put Tanya second for the same reason I put Rain 1st, but in regard to the female ninjas. I just feel like she'd round out the set. *Shrug* (PS. I realize Tanya came after the days of the pallette swapped ninja, so she technically isn't one, but Khameleon having her moves in MKA cemented her place as the "yellow girl ninja" imo.)

I put Shinnok 3rd because after I'm past my obsessive compulsive need to complete the ninja sets of both genders... I think he'd have the most to contribute to the story, being one of the major villains of the MK universe and all. (If indeed the DLC characters HAVE story, which I assume they'd have to... otherwise a new character would be pretty damn boring choice)

And speaking of that new character, he's up next, because yeah... assuming he/she has a story... (My preference is she, btw. I'm a fan of female characters, typically) Assuming he/she has a story, I'd just be more interested in some new blood than...

Kenshi! He's last. Never been nuts about him. Don't know why he's considered the cream of the MKDA-MKD era crop. I find him rather boring personally, but to each his own. Imo, which is only that, my opinion... If any of that era's characters were to come back I'd prefer Nitara, Frost or Li Mei, in that order. (PS. See my afformentioned love of female characters in the previous paragraph tongue)

If the story mode is good enough, theyll probably have characters outside the roster in the scenes. My guess is they would make these characters DLC, like they did Quan before. Otherwise they wouldnt really need to worry about characters that are relevant to the story. Robo-Smoke will probably be in the story, although its a bit unneeded.

Also, I always had a thought that someone else would be a final boss besides Kahn. Maybe it's Shinnok?

Rain
Shinnok
Tanya
...the others.

My fault. I took a quick look at a video of the game too and the poor quality of it threw me off.

While I know many people here are not a fan, I do hope that they run with his Deception look.

You like johnny cage who has the worst story ever, human smoke's couldn't be worse even if they decided to make him peewee herman in a fighting tournament. enough said

Why Thank you. But honestly when you make it seem like human smoke can't have a good story when a good majority of everyone else is telling you he can maybe you should think about it and stop trying to force your opinion on-to other people P.S I never said he was your favorite

Or maybe those other people aren't using their brains. If their arguments were any good, I'd listen to them. I listen to and have decent conversations with the smarter users of this board like Casselman, Temp, T-Rex, and more all the time. They're educated adults who know a good idea from a bad idea.

Every Human Smoke fan seems to be some teenager who can't read or write all that well and doesn't even seem to care about Mortal Kombat's storyline, they just want their stupid Gray Scorpion.

Now personally I am not a human smoke fan, before you rage or "cage" all over me. But honestly if people can like stories for characters like Nitara, I am damn certain that they can think of an awesome story for human smoke. It's not like human smoke would stay human and everything would be as if he just went with the normal storyline, maybe something in this game that is one of the story changes could involve him and give him a pretty good story.

And to be honest both character wise and any story wise....

growing up in the clan, little smoke was always jealous of the "zero" brothers. As adults, the "zero" brothers poked fun and made jokes about smokes power often comparing him to pigpen from the peanut cartoons (the kid covered in a cloud of dust all the time). So, when the "zero" brothers embarked on their journey to kill scorpion and subsequent venture into the mortal kombat tournament to avenge each other, smoke came along pretending to be zeros side kick when he was only waiting for the right moment to kick him in the nuts while he's down. I have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with Razors Edge on this particular subject. I can understand and respect liking a certain character, however, I don't think you simply liking a character is a valid reason for him to take the spot away from a character who has much more depth to his character (Cyber Smoke). As someone who likes to consider himself pretty knowledgeable as it pertains to story; be it film or novel (or yes, even video game) I have to say that "Human Smoke is better because I prefer him" isn't the best argument.

Again, personally, I like Human Smoke as well, I just don't think his story is as invaluable to MK1-3 as Cyber Smoke. You're welcomed to disagree though. :)

That whole post was actually just a wad of sarcasm, but in all honesty I don't think Ed Boon or whoever makes the choice would have smoke remain human throughout the entire saga. It is imperative that he become a cyborg because it will highlight the fact that he is a dude with low self esteem that maybe this time around volunteers for the procedure because he does in fact feel inferior to zero, but then realizes that forfeiting his humanity was the wrong choice.
