Much appreciated, though my personal rage at some of the posts I've seen in this thread got the better of me.

You are not alone. I feel the same way. As a franchise.. if your characters can't sell your game for you and need help from a guest character, then something is definitely wrong.

Sindel and Jade have been confirmed for how long now? And there's been next to no good game play vids of them. As I recall.. the only real footage we have of them consists of them being used as punching bags. Other characters we've seen enough to get a feel for how they're going to play, but not these two. Or Reptile for that matter... he's been used as a punching bag also.

I don't even like Kratos, and even I have to admit that his fighting style looks extremely fun. Still.. I really hope they don't forget to show off some of the other characters as far as gameplay vids go.

Honestly, I don't see the problem. He's a guest character, why would they even bother having a guest character if they won't promote him? In fact, this is only the second time I can recall promo being Kratos related, hell, this is the first Kratos has been the central focus of promotion (a little banner does not count).

Don't forget this all costs time and money. Sure they use in-game footage, but someone has to edit the footage and make it work. The new MK game has a lot of characters, so naturally priorities had to be set.

For me however I mean I dont see a problem with having Kratos all that good stuff, hopefully though it wont continue with more MK games having guest characters or whoever the heck comes in the MK world

Nothing has changed for me. I very much enjoy the God of War series and I enjoy Mortal Kombat, but I don't like, and will likely never accept, Kratos in this Mortal Kombat. We get it; he's a generic killer that smolders with generic rage and likes to do bad things to people with his bare hands. He's violent. MK is violet. But, as always, if I wanted to play a game with Kratos I'd just play my God of War games. I was a Mortal Kombat fan well over a decade before Kratos ever was a blink in Sony's eye, before the Playstation itself ever existed, and I was and remain eager to play a MK game that strips out all the BS guest characters, mini-games, adventure modes, and is just MK, all MK.

... and, alas, I know this tie-in means Kratos is going to get a big marketing push and shoved down our throats. I am a MK fan first and foremost, and I'm dying for footage of Sindel's hair whip, of Reptile winning a match, of Nightwolf (oh yeah, he was one of the first announced characters right?) doing some amazing combos, of Smoke, Sheeva, Kintaro, and Quan Chi in action, of Jade and Kabal and Stryker showing off more of their new moves and redesigned specials, of more alternate costumes, of more stages, of more stage fatalities, of more modes of gameplay...

... And, call it petty, I feel every Kratos update or marketing promotion is just another update that takes focus off of the genuine MK cast, story, and universe. We were THIS close to getting the whole UMK3 cast back together, but Rain got benched for Sony's lap dog and nostalgic characters like Smoke and Quan Chi have to sit on the sidelines while a party-crasher hogs the spotlight.

Again, I enjoy God of War and I don't even hate Kratos. His gameplay strangely reminds me of Link from Soul Calibur (another fighting game Kratos barged in on). But I'd be flat-out lying if I said I wouldn't prefer any other character from the MK universe, even losers like Meat and Mokap, getting time, money, resources, and marketing spent on them instead.

I want more Sindel. I want more Jade. I want Stryker. I want Sheeva and Nightwolf and Reptile and Goro and Quan Chi and Smoke and Shang Tsung and Sonya to get some real, genuine spotlight. Where's Sonya's combo video? Where's Kitana's bio vignette? Where's Shang Tsung's fatality? There are so many modes and X-rays and unlockables and alternate costumes and stages and moves we haven't seen, and there's always that genuine worry that Kratos will overshadow the MK characters in the marketing and hype, almost like Darth Vader and Yoda dominated everything related to Soul Calibur IV for a long time leading up to and after its launch.

I still think the best "guest" character ever was Gon in Tekken 3. He was just there. No marketing. No commercials. No hype. It was pure Tekken... with one quirky addition. Nobody minded. Nobody cared. We were all too busy being awed by the great gameplay, incredible new cast, impressive graphics and CG, and loads of secrets and unlockables.

Here's hoping MK does the same.

Excellent post Garlador. I agree 100% with everything you said. Funny you mentioned Nightwolf... I was just thinking yesterday: "How come we've not seen anything more from Nightwolf??" He was there in the beginning, but then just disappeared from nearly all vid footage.

For one thing, Quan Chi is supposed to be a hidden character, so my money is on him not getting promoted was the plan. lol Hearing what Fatality he has in the game is all I need to hear about him, personally.
But I would like some Smoke coverage.

It would be interesting if there was an exchange from both companies. Sony Santa Monica would help make and fix Motaro so he can be in the game. While Netherrealm has Kratos as a guest. Cause you no their having trouble with motaro, but I can only imagine.

I couldn't agree more with all of this. It describes how I feel about this whole thing perfectly. I have nothing against the character, he seems like a cool character (I've never played GOW) but his inclusion in this game is nothing but an unecessary gimmick. This is supposed to be a celebration of all things MK, it's roots, its return to form, so Kratos can kindly piss off.

And she really does sound like she was being raped. With Shao Kahn in the background thinking "Quan Chi got buff all of a sudden..."

See, I'm gonna look at people who use Kratos online the same way I see people who pick Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona or Manchester United in FIFA. Little kids who want to play with the best players in the world! Most popular teams! Ronaldo! Messi! Rooney! Drogba!, but can't play for fucks all and get destroyed by real players.

Hopefully it's the same in online as it is in FIFA, wheras you're about to beat them, you see a pause from your opponent and a 'Connection Has Been Lost' or just a random 'Connection Has Been Lost'. That is the greatest feeling, my friend.

Looking forward to fucking beating the shit out of Kratos. Hahhaa.

But everything aside, he looks pretty sick. I like his combos, move sets, and he plays as how he should.

Gon actually left me sad that he wasn't in Tekken Tag. I loved playing as him.

That's right, Sub/Scorp/Kratos.

It's early to judge, but with such arsenal Kratos looks like an unbalanced character. Besides his gameplay look like he is from Tekken or Soul Calibur. All this flashy weapon stuff. It doesn't fit with the primarily hand-to-hand style battles in MK9.

Also, I am completely agree with people who think that time and resources spent on Kratos could have been used with more benefit for the MK itself. And I afraid he would be the main advertising point of the game for the PS3. And that's just sad, because I think this MK deserved to be marketed as MK: great series of the fighting games with 20 years history, not as "Kratos and MK". ]

No matter how much money it could bring. Agree with Harry Potter example. If it exists and popular - it doesn't mean that it should be put in MK game.
