Turn on your light and they'll see you. Make a sound and they'll hear you. If you think it's scary being lost...
Just wait till you're found

I've always thought of him as either the god of Death or the god of Chaos. What do you guys think?
God of Death, definetly. My reasons for this are:
1: Shao-Khan is the ruler of the under world!
2: Have you ever seen that basturd let somebody off the hook? Me niether.
3: He betrayed the gods, and became evil.
I guess they both kind of fit him, but I would think of him, more of the god of death, rather that chaos.

Why are you bringing Shao Kahn into this then?
To answer the question, Shinnok is the god of narcotics.

I don't think the Elder Gods are gods of anything in paticular. Just all-around powerful deities. So being a former Elder God, I don't think Shinnok was the god of anything.

"A" god of the Heavens, in Mortal Kombat. In Greek Mythology, you can have multiple gods for essentially one thing. Essentially.
Beyond that, it hasn't been specified what his "job" was as a god. But that's how I take it.

I agree so much. There is no doubt he is probably the worst built deity I have ever seen. There's nothing even unorthodox about him, he's just "regular".... Let alone being divine, cuz he doesn't give off that he ever was. So much potential gone to waste in my opinion. Especially concerning his power over Necromancy.
It's such a vast wizardry to hold power over. I don't understand why he couldn't just be.....better. The ideas for him could have been so much better from the base up.

That, or unoriginality.

God of Darkness IMO, even before he turned "evil"

If you want to bring the movie into it, it seems he was an air/wind god of some sort. However I always like the idea that he was the Elder God of Shadows...where I got that idea I have no idea but it seems to suit him especially since he was defeated by someone who uses LIGHT-ing as a weapon.

i agree with the fact of shinnok being the god of death (though there is no confirmation of wtf hes god of but if i had to choose) since if he were to be the god of chaos the power of chaos would bend to his will thus giving order to chaos by following shinnok. meaning that chaos would then beome order and order wouldnt exist because it wouldnt have anything to order or something like that. thus ripping the fabric of reality. and to add if he was a god of chaos he would live in the realm of chaos

That's what I said, God of Unoriginality. He can't think of his own shit, so he steals other people's moves.
He's the god of terrible character design. Imo, he looks ridiculous.
I could never figure Shinnok out. Imagine how much better MK4 would have been with either:
A) A new, original boss or-
B) Shang Tsung as the boss.
A sub-boss would have been nice too for the arcade version.

i agree with every thing...he was a cool concept, its just that the Shang Tsung thing had been done over and over again.., that it gets stupid and ridiculous after a while...its like Quan-Chi's second fatality from MK4...unoriginal....but for the most part, Shinnok should be the God of Doppleganger, IMO

I definitely agree with XiahouDun84
He was never a normal god, but an Elder God, and Elder Gods are not the god of anything in particular.

Shinnok should've never had the mimic ability to begin with. That was just laziness on the MK team's part.
