The video sadly leaves me some questions that may never get answered until release day.

Variation 1: Electrocution combos.
Besides this looking like a simple special effect to a standard moveset, kind of like Kitana using fans in her combos in MK9 and Baraka and Sub-Zero, etc....Okay whatever.
Raiden shoots out an electric spark that suspends in the air. I will get back to this on Variation 3.
But my question is, will I still be able to teleport in Variation 1? Because Variation 2 makes it seem like no and that's not setting right with me.

Variation 2: Teleportation.
Welcome to the OP Variation out of the three. I don't even need to see Variation 3 at this point. He can hold the teleportation to disappear and it's not even an Enhanced move (yikes). Is it me or does that seem unfair? Has anyone ever fought a teleport-happy Raiden in a MK game? It's scary. Now he has a whole moveset that revolves around it. OH-MY-GOD, not complaining on the general idea of it, but I'm not sure if NRS has any idea the monster they just unleashed. But to give him a move that you can just set back and hold his teleportation and fuck with people's heads with it?

Variation 3: Lightning Traps. (Which surprisingly is getting the fan favorite).
I'm not feeling that both Kotal Kahn (if I recall correctly) and now Raiden has moves that slows down the fast pace of this game. Not only does it slow down the pace, it punishes the user.
Look how long it takes for Raiden to fully set it up, which could be effortlessly ruined by a simple projectile spammer.
If by some miracle the user pulls off the set-up, what else can they do? Can one teleport behind the opponent to knock them back? Because who the fuck is going to jump into it on purpose?
And seeing how the Variation 1 demonstration show the lack of a standard teleportation, I'm scared to think that the answer is no.

Do the starter electric sparks do damage while the third set-up causes stun? In the Variation 1 demonstration, Raiden shoots a similar set-up and the opponent eventually touches it and it hurts them. But again, this is from Variation 1, will it react the same way in Variation 3?
Failing to demonstrate more of this variation by not giving it the same treatment as the other two even further leads me to believe how useless this will be. It's like it's thrown in there as filler, but god damn if that grab combo didn't look hot.

X-RAY: Hands down much better than the previous game.

FATALITY: I like the whole thing until you see him shooting the head with electricity. Maybe if you didn't see Raiden performing that action and just only seeing the head slowing falling and out of nowhere the head sparks up then the poof.

One of his looks in this game needs to be showing his silver hair, sans hat. Like Raiden from the movies. There was one MK game before that actually featured a Raiden costume like that but I can't remember for sure which one it was. Was it DA or Deception? Or was it Armageddon? Anyhow, I think it was ONE of the "3D era" games.

His hair was showing in both MKDA (alternative costume) and MKD (again, alternative costume).

For all people complaining about Raiden's look, remember there are still gonna be alternative costumes.

Oki doki well I must say that was pretty awesome.

Funny I was actually wondering how our favourite God of Blunder was going to look in this new game this whole week.

I will say though I am pretty disappointed in his costume. I was hoping for something a little more imposing like his Deadly Alliance appearance (which would fit this games dark and brooding theme perfectly.) but it's not a bad costume. It's a nice standard design for him, and I'm okay with that.

Gameplay though, god damn that looked, heh, really cool and I loved, LOVED! His Fatality.

There is still one thing I really wish they would have corrected by now with Raiden. Does anyone remember his fitting, poor mans Michael Ironside voice from Deadly Alliance? Why did we have to lose that voice and exchange it for the lack luster Richard Epcar. It just, really does not fit Raiden.

Oh well good to see you Raiden God of Useless.

He does. I'm actually a lot more pleased with his look in this game after having seen the trailer. The still that MKO had posted with the story at first doesn't do him justice.

That's so Raiden.

Costume's decent. Nothing to write home about, but this series frequently suffers from overdesign problems so I'm happy with it.

Fatality's nice. A bit silly, but nice. Slick X-Ray.

How is nobody freaking out about the awesomeness of the diagonal superman torpedo? Between that and the traps, he's gonna be a blast to play.

Let's hope he brings brains to the table this time. Bring him on. smile

Also loving the "Pray for the Kahn's mercy" quote. :D

He only did it during the Displacer part of the trailer so I don't think we'll be seeing it outside of that. The only special he did throughout was the torpedo thingy.

I like his look though. I mean he looks like Raiden like some other people said. I miss the cape though. I'm just a sucker for capes.

His MKDA alt was awful. Agreed.

But for special moves throughout, he did use the air grab where he electrocutes them then throws them away in two variations. May be a throw but for some reason I doubt it.

I'm actually a bit disappointed that Raiden's look is almost unchanged. I was so ready for a non-hat Raiden this time. tongue

His variations look interesting, even though the Storm Lord hat looks silly.

All in all not that exciting, but not bad either.

Go look at his MK9 costume. It's completely changed..

I doubted that it was going to be Raiden and I was wrong. I'm not ashamed of being wrong.
I do like him and all, but, it was just a speculation that I thought it was someone else. Others thought the same.

Raiden seems more interesting this time around. I like his variations very much, especially his traps.
Now on to his X-ray! It is just so....electrifying and looks better than in MK9.
The fatality could have been better. By better I mean, he should have disintegrated the body instead (MK1 Snes) of decapitating the head and blowing it up. However, that is my thought and besides, I'll have to accept. It's not really all that bad though. Love when Raiden squeezes the opponents head and the eyeballs pop right out and dangle.

Hoping to see a lot more of his gameplay.

I would assume not. The 3rd Storm Lord variation just seems to be making more of the things. The first Thunder God variation will probably only let you use one.

I have a feeling they are REALLY going to take their time with reveals. Considering the tagline they are using is, "Who's Next?" and that the game doesn't release until next year I am expecting them to continue revealing one character at a time every two or three weeks or so until closer to release.

I feel they should have more time in between each revealing so that they're being more careful about the game rather than having everything leaked.

Hopefully that never ever happens again.

No surprise here. It does, however, get the real obvious out of the way first. Styles look good, though.

Shouldn't it be less time between each reveal, then? Otherwise we're just going to get some crumbs along the way until a huge leak right before release like we always get.

He still looks same after 25 years. I'm so glad that. They remembered MK styles.
His moves are looks fun and awesome, but fatality is boring a bit... They should be done better than that.
I think they will put his MKD evil god version costume as DLC.

So, after having time to soak everything in, here are my thoughts;

- Displacer Raiden is interesting, almost looks like players will be able to spam teleports similar to Kung Lao. Will probably be a big character for that online.
- The traps are a nice touch but I think will be overlooked a few weeks after release. It'll be one of those moves that no one except for newbies and careless players will fall for after the first few times experiencing them.
- Thunder God Raiden looks nice visually, I'm glad they're taking full advantage now of the fact this IS a God of thunder and lightning instead of just a bolt now and then shooting from his hands.
- The fatality; it wouldn't be MK without a decapitation and the eyes bursting out gave me a great laugh. Hopefully the second fatality is a little more original, but again, nice touch.
- The outfit is same old, same old. The symbols that glow on the hat that I first noticed after the fatality are neat. Mostly little variations here and there just to add a speck of change but don't get me started on the missing medallion. An entire story mode revolving around this thing and suddenly the game after and its gone. Seriously, the hell?

Mostly, I'm still just bummed we didn't get a 'bigger' reveal so-to-speak. Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden at this point in the franchise are gimmies, they aren't surprises, but I understand it was EVO and it was a live stream so they decided to play it safe and reveal a well known franchise character. However, based merely on gameplay, I like what I'm seeing thus far. Seems like he'll be a good character to use online strategically. I think some of the newer characters have the more interesting move sets that I've seen thus far (D'Vorah and Kotal, I'm looking at you here) but the little touches I've seen for Raiden impressed me.

Not that I didn't like his MKD attire, I would rather two new fresh alts or one totally new and a revamp of his MKDA attire.
