IF you talk to one of the Oni in Netherrealm, One of the line he does speak that Quan Chi was one of them and So are many people within the City.

Also one of the women in the houses will say that she was an oni at one point in her life and she uses magic to upgrade her form.

Nothing about Liu Kang's corpse murdering innocents and causing chaos (again contradicting MKD, here and in Fujin's bio it's stated it's targetted slaughter).

Couple theories here.

A) Raiden was actually targeting the innocents (e.g. his Shaolin brethren, etc.) and I'm sure he had some excuse why they deserved it.

or

B) Although Raiden THINK he's in full control over who zombie Liu is killing, the killings could be for reasons besides this (interference from an outsider, e.g. Shinnok, Havik, Quan Chi, The One Being, etc. or just Zombie Liu's own "subconcious", as it were.)

Raiden simply made a deal with Shao Kahn in that if Raiden stopped Taven from completing his quest, Shao Kahn would spare Earthrealm. However, that doesn't make much sense considering how Shao Kahn can't be trusted. Raiden's bio shows how despite his alliance with Shinnok, he still doesn't trust him. I'm sure this also applies to Shao Kahn, who is he somehow using in his own way.

I'm sure Raiden was planning on the very beginning from betraying Shao Kahn, most likely by him having planned from right from the start to destroy Kahn's Outworld. (This would explain why in his MKA ending, he destroys not out Outworld but every other realm besides Earth, so that nothing can harm our realm.)

As I'm sure you know, Mythologies and MK4 refers to the first war between Raiden & Shinnok causing the destruction of a civilization.

From Khameleon's Trilogy ending:
"Khameleon's former race were known as Raptors. They evolved millions of years ago on Earth into intelligent creatures but fled the realm when it was destroyed in a battle between the gods. They repopulated a new realm known as Zaterra only to be driven to extinction by Shao Kahn when they lost to Outworld in Mortal Kombat."

I don't think enough people here are familiar with Khameleon's MKT story (which is quite odd - considering how many wanted her to return for MKA). So here we go:

i never liked the dark story and i never will. but raiden is still classifide as good inspite of his recent actions. so to offer a explaination to why he was running on the good guy side, he may just have said screw this, aliance with shinnok and kahn i'm going on the side with people i know i can trust so right before fujin and friends went to edenia ye old thunder god might have come and said, screw being bad, i'm on the side that i know i trust. then ordered undead liu to kill shang and his allies. or his body may have some memmory of why he was killed and who did it so he may have gone after shang directly and killed anyone in its way
I enjoyed that bio a lot. It definitely answers some questions I had.

Ah.

I see the connection now, but it only seems to be a moral responsibility that Raiden claims a tie to the Raptors extinction. You know, like "Since he was involved in the battle that made the Raptors leave and go to the realm that got them killed off"....that makes him responsible for their distruction. Wow.

I guess to put it simple, Raiden feels guilty about what happened because the fight between the Gods destroyed Earth for the Raptors. It's the domino effect basicly..Nothing direct as far as Raiden is concerned(He didn't go and shock everybody himself). Shao Khan bares the direct responsibility for their extinction...He caused it, not Raiden. Right?

Nm, I get it.
======================
Personally now, I still like the Houan=Quan Chi idea. Necromancers and It just makes more sense to me even though I see the history of the above infrence to Reptile//Khameleon now.

It now makes me think that there's no connection between where Raiden went to re-animate Liu and the Raptors.

Edit: It's flawed, according to what's been said in this thread anyway.

I just read the Mk4 intro and this bio again....the difference is
1. Mk4: "thousands of years ago"......(the fight between the Gods...plunged the world into blah blah.."Reptile//Khameleon")
2. This MkA Bio: "Centuries ago"....(...defeated an ancient sect of necromancers.."Houan" blah blah..)

Seems like there's two totally different groups of people he's talking about between these two games.

See that's what I was saying in my reply (back a page or two)

It now seems like Raiden's responsible for the deaths of TWO civilizations, which is kinda dumb, because while this as interesting story for him - he only claimed responsibility in MK4 for being responsible for the death of one of em.

Keep in mind that the Houan are merely a sect, not a civilization. And judging by their line of work (I assume that playing god and resurrecting the dead kinda rubbed the Elder Gods the wrong way),they probably had it coming anyway. smile

All I can say is WOW! These bois are just making me love the story of MK more and more. And now there are necromancers other than Quan Chi thats indirectly responsible for my former fav character's return(Liu Kang). I hope that they will not be forgotten in future MKs. As you all can see im a huge necromancy fan.grin

Although his Bio doesn't reveal why he flipped out, my guess is that whoever is responsible will reveal it in their bio. But think of the bios as part of a big 64 piece puzzle. The more pieces you get the better picture you can see.

I like this bio as well as the others. I just really really wish this stuff was already in the game.... Midway should release a disc or a download or some thing out to the public with all the bio's. Or am I the only one that is saving all these bio's in MS Word right now???

Anyways... I still don't see Raiden as evil... Then again these days in MK doesn't it seem like nearly every one is more neutral rather than good or evil???

Well the only thing I really don't understand is this alliance Raiden made with Shinnok? According to the bio, Shinnok said that he will protect Earthrealm with this alliance, but Raiden clearly senses that Shinnok is just up to some thing and probably trying to set Raiden up.... so why the hell is Raiden accepting this alliance??? I guess like many of you have said he is just playing puppet master lol. But how exactly is Raiden using Shinnok??? Will we find out in Shinnok's or some one else's bio? Maybe after all the bio's they will then write canon endings for every one and post them up? That would be sweet...

Despite them putting up bio's now... I still gotta say MKA worst MK ever and very dissapointing. They should of been straight up with us about the bio's from the beginning, but too late now I think as I think Midway has already lost a huge amount of the MK fan base, and I doubt those people have a clue about these bio's being put up.

Been reading many of the other post's in this thread.

Some thing I forgot to bring up before is that I think there maybe is a connection between the Houan and Quan Chi. We never have truly known the original origin of Quan Chi I don't believe. Best guess is that he is just from the Neatherealm. Well this may not answer where he truly is from, but this Houan sect he could of been apart of, so he maybe from Earthrealm lol. Well I'm looking forward to find out what is Quan Chi's bio to see if there is any connection.

Anyways back to Raiden.... Don't think I got any thing else to say about him at the moment...

Yeah, I too think of Raiden as more of a neutral character. Raiden agreed to ally with Shinnok, because Raiden wants to find out just what Shinnok is up to. It was a decision made that there wouldn't be bios in the game, and Vogel didn't have any control over it and was thus pissed about it.

ROFL I've been saying that for a seriously long time. Weeks after I first joined last May. to be exact. But yeah, Quan Chi was once an Oni. I dunno how the hell his powers got weaker when he was imprisoned in the Netherrealm though.

Because his powers are "magic", and without a Soul Stone, he lost his powers and became only a "weak" Oni...

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!

Ok got that out of my system. Anyways, something is seriously wrong with the old thundergod. There is no way anyone will go from literally giving up his life and risking his soul to save Earth AND its people to someone willing to use necromancy (or something damn close to it) on of his best mortal allies and possible damning that ally's soul.

Some of the theories I've seen so far make sense (note: I have not read them all as of yet). The top three so far seem to be:

1. He is possessed/controlled by an evil force (ie the One Being). Perhaps he was weakened enough by that blast he was vunerable to being taken over.

2. His personality was split between yin/yang. If you want to get all cliche...and Mortal Kombat is full of cliches. You have two Raidens out there one Dark and one Light. Both have partial memories or different versions of the same memories. The Dark one being the more aggressive is the one we see. The Light one could be imprisoned or still recovering or working on more 'gentle' methods or ensuring that the good guys will win. This also brings up the old keeping the balance arguement...maybe it was the meddling of the Elder Gods that caused this to teach Raiden a lesson about keeping the balance between good and evil after he turned his back on them.

3. He is still a fake Raiden...only he doesn't know it. Unless I could be wrong, Mileena believed she was Kitana's sister until UMK3. It would be easy to give a clone some false memories, altered in a way to make the new Raiden what you want him to be, and make him believe he was the real thing.

Honorable mention:

He has gone stark, raving mad. This guy will definitely need a rubber room.

Why, so he can't use his electricity to escape? :D

Actually, that's an excellent idea. Since rubber is such a great insulator for electricity... If I use this idea in any future projects of mine, you will get a mention. Thanks for being my muse!
