Deception set the trend of having multiple game modes in MK. Armageddon followed that up.

Would you like MK8 to feature multiple game modes or would you prefer that it just emphasizes on fighting?

Personally, all I want is the fighting mode and a Konquest mode. I think all of those mini-games are a waste of space cuz they get boring quickly. KAK was loads of fun in MKA but I don't think it would go with this re-intro of MK that MK8 will supposedly be.

Well I don't think they got boring quickly. Puzzle Kombat and especially chess Kombat lasted a very long time. Chess lasted even longer than Reg. Kombat. So I'm down for whatever.

I'd actually like to see multiple modes such as story mode, vs. mode, endurance mode, practice mode, tutorial mode, Konquest mode, and maybe even modes like 2 vs. 2, tournament, etc. The fighting system should be nicely developed and have top priority though.

Why not just have one engine that can be used for both Kombat and Konquest? I detailed this in my thread here

I'd rather have just fighting. I'm sick of seeing these stupid minigames. MK is jumping on the Mario bandwagon. At least the games are all in one in this case.

I think they should focus on just fighting for now, since they're using a new engine and all. They need to get that right first.

...... take out Konquest unless ya gonna make it like it was in MKDA cuz that was way better than Konquest in MKD or MKA. yeah forget about the mini games as well... sure Puzzle Kombat and MK Chess were kool actually, but they really shouldnt be focusing on mini games... if any thing just put test your might back in.... maybe reinvent the test your might thing....

really they should just focus on the fighting.... i really think this next MK is gonna be do or die time... if it isnt up to par with DOA 4, VF5, and the upcoming SC4 then it will fail big time.

oh and no dumb KAK cuz it was HORRIBLE in MKA and they dont need to waste time on it either. and normal fatalities better make a return.

really how i see it all the mini games in MKD and MKA and the konquest in both them and the KAK.... all that seemed like to me was just distractions from how bad the fighting engine is in the games compared to other fighters.
Forget the mini games, focus on the fighting.

At least have "Test Your Might" in it. Restore the very good minigame in Mortal Kombat. Although I did personally enjoy the puzzle colored box game, it did get boring after a while. Seeing how you only had a small portion of characters to choose from and there wasn't a whole lot to do in the game.

If you're going to have a minigame, you may as well feature all the characters in the game instead of just a few, and give them better power ups.

But we're not talking about that, sorry for getting of topic. But like I stated, they should focus on just the fighting right now due to it being a new engine and that, but at least feature one tiny little game to throw us off from the fighting and that should be the old classic Test Your Might game.

1 fighting mode and 1 Konquest mode would be good enough for me.

Yep. But in addition to your points there::

I think people are forgetting about how detrimental to ANY game coming out now days...Anything coming out since the late Ps2//Xbox, the NEED to have Online "things to do". That's an attribute that sells the games all by itself.

I think we NEED modes, and some relevant mini-games.

People are going to buy this game, and immediately take the thing right online to see what they cane do with it.....What if there was nothing BUT the Fighting? Even sounds pretty boring regardless of how well the mechanics are done to me. What I do is, I get online....play for an hour or so til I'm bored of the same people,...then just get off.

I think if they want to capitalize on peoples attention on the game, and create some kind of replay value, they're gonna need some really clever, fun things to do...Especially Online. SoOo...

I think Mortal Kombat has an advantage over the other games here because, they aren't afraid to experiment.

And...

I'm not against mini-games..I'm against senseless mini-games and modes. Modes and min-games that don't make any sense Piss-me-off to no end...But it doesn't say that the concept of them, is not a good one.

Plus...

The engine, and the dimensions of the system, AND the disk that they're using now, can handle a hell of alot more. All at one time even. So, to not consider "other things to do" with the game, would sorta be wasting a good chunk of the disk, and the systems capabilities.
=============================

This are the things I want, in addition to great fighting mechanics.

1. Konquest: It IS necessary in Mortal Kombat, because the story effects so much else about the game. Retuning characters will need to be explained, as well as the new ones. So what better avenue to explore them, than this mode. I prefer MkD's konquest mode, with all the abilities and such we could do with MKA's konquest. It would look alot like MKSM.

2. Different "VS" modes: 2/2, 4/4, and some interesting odd numbered matches would be waaay too cool. There something I treasure from the 2D games, and think that it should return to give us that ultimate "Arcade" feel....
What if I kicked your ass with one character, and you had 3..or 4...or 5 to my one?

What if "Clans" were more relevant? Then, you could have multiple people from all over the world, go into one fight, against another "clan"....Who would win? How much currency would that gain the team? How much territory, if we add story mode conditions to that?

3. Endurance Mode: Could be character specific...Could be downloadable, and help you get more stuff for your character that made you look, or perform better. "Test Your Might", "Perform Your Kata", "Complete The Mission for your Sensei"....ect.

That stuff is relevant, and would be crazy to do if other people were trying to complete a similar mission as you...but were the opposing force in your mission. (You are Lin Kuei, but your opponent, who is on a mission of his own...and who is a real person behind that character...is a member of the BrotherHood of the Shaddow..or whatever)

4. Practice Mode: HUGE! Why haven't we had a "dojo" in Mortal Kombat yet?

Train with your sensei with real consequenses. You gain more moves, unlock special//secret combos for your character...learn fatalities..ect.

This is also where you could keep all the weapons you buy or skills and money you earn. Arenas you've discovered, and stats for your character.

Practice mode is huge, and should have many layers to it.

5. Khreate a Kharacter: Don't forget that they superseded all the other previous games' version of this feature, and it was (imo), the most fun part about MKA.

Just, bring it back, realize the complaints about the last one...and improve on it as a mode.

I love to have that kind of control. I want to be able to do what the Tom Clancy series is doing RIGHT NOW, and put my actual face on a character that I make....dress 'em up, and give him moves that fit the way I fight.

That shit's awesome d00d.
=========================================================

Anyway, just think about all that, and I'd even erge you to reconsider if you're completely against ANY extra modes, or mini-games. So long as they're relevant to the core of the game itself...I'd love to have them in.

Between the last two versions of Konquest, and Tekken Force, I think I really expect that kind of additional material in a beat 'em up.
Which, given the repetitive nature of two-person fighting, probably isn't an unreasonable evolution in the genre. It certainly rounds a purchase out to be more palatable over the opposition than if it was just fighting.

Of course, as a hyopthetical dream scenario, you ask for those things without either effecting the completion or quality of the other.

Nah, it's the only way cute chicks around campus will play Mortal Kombat with me =)
They love puzzle kombat and motor kombat (because of their mario kart N64 days)
The only type I liked were Test your Might/Sight.

Okay, I know I'm probably gonna get a ton of hate for this, but I think they should develop Konquest mood as much as they did in Armageddon. It was better than any Konquest yet, however you could only play as Taven. However, obviously there first priority should be the fighting. Damn those mini-games to hell.

They should just focus on the main game.

Deception & armageddon were full of glitches and there was a lack of detail, eg; when characters fall onto spikes in deathraps it looks shitty, etc.

Point taken. I would say though you'd probably have way more fun actually getting/playing Mario Kart or Puzzle Fighter instead of having to play the MK knock-offs of those two games.

Speaking of which Mario Kart 64 still plays pretty darn well even now. grin

Bring back Test Your... (Increased and improved) and mini-games like bonus stages like SFII (like before, increased and improved) and put more types of fighting games modes (survival, tags, etc...). Later, if the time is possible, a Konquest-type mode (3 forms (DA, Dec, Arm) had his pros and cons).

Later, for MK9, if the people isn't too pleased, put something that increased the offline & online experience, like Puzzle/Chess/Motor.

Agree'd lots of modes based primarily on a deep fighting system is what I'd like to see.

I liked the IDEA of Konquest mode. I would like to see them expand on Konquest, or atleast do a proper story mode.

I would also like a modified K.A.K, allowing you to pick a fighter, and then customize their look., choose custom colors or effects for special moves and maybe allow them to pick some kak specific fatalities, based on the items they are equipped with.

An example would be, that you pick Sub-Zero. You change his outfit edit the colors to black, you add a shadow effect to his slide attack. You also change the color of his freeze projectile to black. Finally you give him a sythe accessory that hangs off of his back ( which will be used in his fatality ). You name this character Noob Saibot, which now becomes an alternate outfit to Sub-zero. Now you essentially are still playing with Sub-Zero ( to keep the game balanced ) but his appearence and style is different, as well as having a different fatality.

I'd hate to say it but i don't want Konquest in the game. Everyone says it gives the game replay value, but i disagree. I play MK2 and Mk3 still to this day, still more than armageddon not because of some bonus ad-on, but because they are fun. I LOVE the idea of test your might. That definately needs to be in the game. Deadly Alliance was an awsome example of it. I think they should go back to more hidden features in the fighting game itself to draw in replayabillity.

As far as the online goes, fighting is all you need. the problem with the last game was just the server setup. They should do a virtual lobby system with voice chat. Have it set up like realms you can walk through to encounter other online players to fight.

Having other games hidden inside the fighting game was great. Like pong in MK2. This takes little time code and doesn't distract from them creating a good fighter. Maybe say after Ten wins you play a round of MK1.

No extra modes, more easter eggs to keep us looking.

oh and don't disclose everything in the game the first week of release, keep us guessing for atleast a few months.

bottom line is that the minigames are there to draw you in to buying a so-so fighter. Instead make the greatest fighter you can, and have it's greatness keep bringing me back to the controller.

There's no reason that having Konquest needs to detract from Kombat. Both could use the same engine. Check out my thread here
in which I detail the possibilities of using one engine for multiple fighting modes, none of which serve as a distraction but are all parts of a complex in-depth whole.
