It still hasnt been confirmed if that's merely a render or not.
Either way, the graphics still look good. Comparing the screenshot to others is a bit difficult, because the game has it's own distinctive art style. It's alot gloomy and less saturated to the other games, but either way it look current gen and definitly holds it's own to those other fighters. Are we seeing the same thing?

Ok enough about the graphics, for one they looks pretty damn impressive for an MK game. Someone do a comparison with that and an MKDA/MKD Scorpion.

I'm with KJ totally, it looks just as good if not better actually vs. other current fighters...
And as I've said before, you can actually SEE the damage done to Scorpion's gii and shoes, a realistic element that other fighters lack....among the bruising, busted up masks etc

I think the disappointment is partially the result of overhyped news about the modificated Unreal Engine 3 being used. Therefore many people had really high hopes as it comes to graphics. They expected photorealistic characters portrayed with a dark & gritty (popular phrase lately) approach. And they were more or less disappointed after seeing the trailer.
But to view this case objectively, it has to be said, that the graphics are not that bad. Unfortunately, they're not that good as they should or supposed to be as well. However...
To some extend, maybe.
Definitely not.
Not to sound rude, but did you actually see other fighters? You don't even have to look far. Just click the links provided by ThePredator151, who has a really good point there BTW. Oh, and it's "gi".

I also don't see too much of a difference here compared to other next gen fighters, taking into account differences in style. For MK, this is a pretty substantial leap.
Also in regards to style, I initially did not really like how the render almost has a "dc-ized" feel to it, but now I am on the fence. Whether purposeful or not, the look is a little (to some, a LOT) more superhero-esque. Didn't like it at first, but now I can see how it can blend the two looks together better. I wonder if they are also adding some MK-esque elements to the DC characters to make the game blend together even better, or if just the MK characters are getting the extreme makeovers.

Yea, I got it...that's why I said "hope it's an in-game picture".
Our difference in what we're seeing is that graphically, photo-realism doesn't take into account art-style. It either is or it isn't. Tekken 6 vs VF5 is a good comparison.
They look similar because they both accomplished photo-realism. Regardless of the art direction in each of the games, "people//humanoids" look as they are supposed to. Skin texture, body models..all that stuff.
And yea, I think the graphics look good too....they'd have looked stellar for PS2 standards and capabilities....but then you got Kratos and God of War.

The reason I asked was because other fighters don't lack that element at all. Check out this comparison and you'll see the damage done to Mitsurugi's clothes/armour and how they're worn out. Much better looking.
The problem in MK games is that the charcters look lifeless they just look like dead meat .
While I realy dont care for more details than this I still want Them to improve it a little more
But in general it is a next gen game to me .
PS: I am sick with namco A** Jiggling in Tekken and Soul Calibur I always hear people prais Namco for that .
