Jax is one of the most popular MK characters (and one of my personal favorites), so I can understand why he is included.

1. Regardless of how much he's hated.. Liu Kang actually has more clout to be in this game of "icons" than Jax does.. Liu was the main character in MK for a LOOOONG time. There was no way he wasn't going to be in. And you'd be surprised at how many people DON'T like the fact that Liu made it either. It's just more accepted because of his status as MK champ that he'd be there.

2. The MK team sort of sealed Jax's fate when they turned him into a Joke with DA. The truth is, Jax used to be a great character and had lots of potential. I loved him in MK 2 and still liked him in MK 3. However any game after that was down hill for Jax. Hopefully, with his appearance in this game, the team can redeem him. Make him great like he used to be. It's not out of the question.

3. People are a bit upset with Jax's return because of the small roster of the game. Fact: There are far better characters in Mk1 thru Mk3 who deserve a spot in the roster... now that Jax is in, that just takes one more of those slots away.

I, for one, hope they can use this oppurtunity to undo the damage they did to Jax from MKDA on.

Nobody will question your street cred if you acknowledge it was a waste of time that contributed nothing, and maybe even subtracted, from Jax as a character. It will be our little secret!

And as a matter of fact, I liked Darrius' primary, but I hated his character, and his story overall.

Now, I'd expect them to take a few liberties of course. So logically, the helmet, and head gear would go (cuz this is MK, not CoD4), his jacket would probably come off, or have the arms ripped off of them...ect I'd prefer it if he didn't have anything on his arms, except maybe a watch. Shoulder holster, leg holster....whatever..

But anyway, Special Forces don't need any of that goofy stuff. They either have the skill to get the job done, or they're carrying the tool on them somewhere. Jax does not need bionic arms...not even as a joke or whatever. It's extremely silly that he's that highly ranked, and insecure about his strength. It's silly, but it's not even funny.

I'd say that if they're gonna have the bionic arms, make them look like they did in MK3-T. At least we'd get muscle definition, and it'd be assumed that his arms were pure metal.

Think of how they use Vin Deisel in the movies "Pitch Black" -- Referring to how stand off-ish people were when they saw his steel-colored eyes.


Natural in construct, but peculiarly in-human. That's the "affect" Jax had in MK3-T to me.

Then you could logically have him shooting things out of his arms and whatnot. But having those huge actually mechanical things on his arms detaches him from reality..logical feasibility even. There's no way that's plausible, unless you go all "IronMan" with them.

Also, Jax could be, in personality, like a Drill Sargent. But that only if you get rid of the bionic stuff. You can't have an over-confident, insecure Special Forces man....it's stupid. lol

If they wanted to homage hip hop, right now there'd be waaay too many colors in his outfit. Let alone Yellow being a terrible choice for a big military man with an assault riffle // small arms machine gun.



Yep, that's what the kids are wearing. Still a terrible idea for a video game, and a Special Forces Soldier. Most of Hip Hop (technically defined Hip Hop, not the radio driven ass-fest that is "Rap" now days) doesn't wear that crap. I don't, and I'm prime for the culture. We dress alot more like something in-between Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and Nelly. II'm Midwest though...so it could depend on where you're from, a little bit

But yep, they gotta take him away from "Iconic Black Man", and more into "Soldier". Soldiers don't care who you are, what you have on, what color you are, where you're from...none of that shit. The only thing that really matters is "Are you Friendly? (Can you please just have a good time?, Cuz somebody just tried to kill me." Or, "I just killed people yesterday" - usually)", Or are you gonna make me fuck you up right now?"....and that's ANY SOLDIER of ANY RACE and even the general "fighting personality" thinks like that. -- nothing else really matters, not 1% most of the time.

I don't need the MkTeam "reminding me that I'm black and so is this character...." It's like: "See the big chain? See the hoody?!? SEE IT?!?". His skin color is enough. Now, make him a good character for me please...

Eh, Jax. I saw this becoming an issue right from when I heard he was announced.

My opinion:

I think he's an okay character. But the lines HAVE GOT TO GO. It really killed him in my eyes, well that along with his MK:DA character design (both reg. and alt.). Was it really necessary to make him have those one-liners? Were they trying to make him more "cool" or something?

As far as him being the token black guy; I have my suspicions, too. I was really pissed with the whole Darrius character in Deception and was cynical (Darrius was thrown in just because the MK Team knew they couldn't get away with Jax again and Kai wasn't popular enough; why Midway even cares about the racial thing is another topic for another day). But the MK Team could at least justify that Jax will be a valid part of the story with the Outworld Investigation Agency....and I sincerely hope that's why they put him in the game.

That said, I'm curious to see how he'll be developed.

Look, we've been beating around the bush here, but I think we all know what we have to do. I mean, come on. The quips. The jibes. The smack talk.

I guess Jax this time will play a major role in this game, with the Klose kombat he perfectly fits this newly introduced "mini boxing" game.

i like ax i was really hoping he wasin and now he is so im happy especially now that we have seen that low quality render of him with metal arms...........im really syked about his metal arms im really happy with the fact that each character will have there own voice so there will not be any characters sharing voices like in passed games im really happy with the cast of chaaracters so far im really happy with most of this game actually i think it will be a big hit

Personally, I think they need to further drive him down the path of true stereotypical gangsta "blackness". If he doesn't call Sonya his "ho" at least once, I'll be sorely disappointed.

what about specials? superman took his ground pound. what else should he have?

of course the gun.. because nobody else has a gun, and it's kinda cool (mainly because batman blocking gunfire with his cape looks badass)

also several grabs. because I seem to think that he'd be the kind of guy that would throw you around.

definately his gotcha grab, and his air backbreaker grab.

and maybe some kind of wrestling move or two.. like a suplex and a powerbomb... or something like that


for klose kombat he should hit slower, but harder, and also shouldn't have any kicks. maybe a knee. his klose kombat grab should be like some cool move where he pulls the opponent's head into an uppercut or something



and as for freefall.. He should just lift them over his head and throw them to the ground..
or if they really wanted to make something cool they could have him put the opponent into a headlock, and ddt them into the ground.


as for his look, I think just some kind of tanktop w/ dogtags. I don't really know about the rest.

Darrius would have been fabulous if they had went with his original story, him being the new leader of the Red Dragons. But by them throwing him into the whole chaos vs order crap, it really made him forgetteble. Hopefully in MK9, They will indeed have Darrius get involved with the red dragon.

Also, the reason why I dislike MKD is because they completely threw out pretty much all characters from the previous game. How in the world can you do that when most of them were excelent? But hey, it was the fans fault, they kept wanting every one brought back so the MK team just gave it to us.

Also, Jax was becoming his own in MKDA and MKU, So I think that we need to be a little more patient with him because he really was.

One reason why I didn't like the MK team getting rid of most of the roster for the then MK8, is because pretty much all the characters have not reached their full potential. We have excelent characters that haven't been really given a chance and i'm talking about the new characters from MK3-MKA.

If anything, get rid of the usual suspects for MK9 and lets focus on characters that haven't gotten the spotlight, like Nightwolf,Jarek,Ashrah,Drahmin,Chameleon ect. You may think they suck, but with ravamped looks and new fresh stories they'll be like new characters. Let them be the "new generation".

Jax is cool IMHO. I hope to see his metal arms smashing away once again. But please leave the black stereotypical aspects of his MK:DA and MK:A character out.

jax is a boring characters.born as a fearless militar hero(a la Guile from SF2) and transformed into the comic relief hero in MKDA Unchained and Armageddon,heavily influenced from the abysmal MK annihiliatio were Jax tried to take Johnny Cage role wthout any succes.
He wears metal arms...and this sucks...
He haven't a specific enemy(Liu Kang vs shang tsung,Cage vs Goro,Sonya vs Kano,Cyax vs Sektor,Sub Zero vs scorpion,Rayden Shinnok,Kitana vs Mileena,Liu Kang again vs shao kahn,etc).

Cage born as comic relief character and Midway tried to tranform Jax into Cage replacement,but they failed 'cause to be honest Jax isn't nearly good as the three main hero(LIU,SONYA and Cage).
Jax was threwed in just to please black fanboys,Jax is useness.

Jax is an interesting character as long as he have all his classic special moves (backbreaker, gotcha punch, earthquake and multi-slam)

Well, now that the logical theory of Jax not being in the game because Superman borrowed his Ground Pound has been disproven, that means that Kabal and/or Kano have just as much chance to get in as well. Well, Kabal's a bit of a stretch in any case but you get the idea.

I think Kung Lao should be in before Jax.

Although Jax as been with us since the early stages of the MK franchise, i believe that many people feel that his Metal Arms make a horrific fashion statement and basically cant match with any of his standard or alternate costumes. Maybe its time to lose the metal, jax.
