Just saw the boon interview and when he commented on how people were WTFing when the news came out on DC.

Those were funny times. People were pissed.

Now, not so much. I think we've all come to accept it. I would've preferred MK8, but this looks like it's going to work out.

Did you change your mind?

My initial reaction was hate...because it's a ludicrous concept.

Once I got used to it and learned the story would be non-canon, I started to go along with it.

But now I'm finding my two favorite characters...Kitana & Wonder Woman...are being half-assed. So I'm back to hate.

Interesting ride.

I never really hated this game when I first learned that it was a crossover. I don't really understand why some people took this news to an extreme, but yet again, I can see why they took things that way with this game. Tis' nothing to get furious over now that it's soon to be release on game consules this November.

Although I was surprised, I really didn't care all that much. After all, it is only a game.

I completely hated it because they were saying there would be no fatalities and to me fatalities are what really make MK great.

Once I learned there would be some fatalities and the game started to look good, I warmed up to it.

I am also impressed that they are keeping some blood in the game, and in a way, the less blood is even more brutal than the typical MK fountains of blood because it's more realistic.

I know I sound like a stupid 13 year old talking about the blood and fatalities, but the original Mortal Kombat arcade game got me back into video games at a time when I was outgrowing them and I'll admit that a big reason it did that was with the blood and shock factor. It was the first coin-op video game I played that was marketed to an above 15 year old crowd and I still kind of hold it to that standard.

Unlike most, I loved the game from first hearing the seemingly ridiculous idea a short time before the first trailer in April, until now. All of it, I was excited.

I was utterly confused. But this is a fighting game franchise, what matters is how it plays, not how it looks. I was always only going to give the game as much of a chance as its playable depth warranted giving it.

I'm still utterly confused. And I still think Mortal Kombat vs DC is a terrible, terrible idea which should never have happened. But it looks like it plays half decently judging from what I can see. So, I get half decent fighting game hopefully, with some really cool characters, and I get to kill people after I fight them in various amusing ways. That sounds like fun to me. In fact it sounds far more fun than the last few MK games. This might not be Mortal Kombat as such but quite frankly Mortal Kombat as we knew it - an abysmally shitty fighting game which relied solely on blood to sell - was well past its used by date and deserved to be put out of its misery.

I think I'd rather have a really strange game than a flat out bad one, so as much as this game confuses me, I'm glad it happened. So far. Bearing in mind I haven't played it yet.

I was a little surprised yet indifferent at the beginning for some reason, as if I expected this.

I know I was annoyed because I wanted a real mk game that would make up for the disaster that MKA was in terms of stoy, quality, etc. But I quickly became extremely excited and interested in this game and always kept an open mind about it.

Now, I'm more then happy I kept an open mind since day 1 because I'm totally in love with it.

Ironically, this might be the best MK game ever, and it's sure making up for what MKA didnt give us and so much more.

I indeed was confused....and angry.

But I have made such a dramatic change, I haven't been this excited for an MK since Deception.

I said terrible things about the MK team.

And now I know why they get paid good money for making video games and I don't.

Here's my emotional ride for this game:

Skepticism, Shock, Confusion, Anger, Disappointment, Sadness, more Disappointment, Indifference, Intrigue, Disappointment, and finally Indifference and Disappointment.

My current thoughts are that this is not the MK I grew up with and not the MK I desperately wanted. That hardly makes it bad, but I just don't care about a game that really has given me no good reason to care about it.

DC is a gimmick. A momentary set-back so Midway can get some much-needed funds and mooch off the DC brand name, chiefly The Dark Knight himself.

Other than that, nothing new under the sun for me. I don't see any revolutionary changes, and the stalwart fatalities have been neutered to sub-Marvel Nemesis levels, which was admittedly a big turn off for most fans, especially considering we've gone two MK games without "proper" fatalities.

I'm still passionately against this game and its comic book-ish concept. MK's foundations were on realism comparative to its peers and its shock and gore factor. Both the realism has been effectively negated with the presence of the likes of Lex Luthor and Captain Marvel while the gore has taken a big blow. I see nothing of the story worth following, since the game is non-canon, which means stalwart MK fans will just have to wait LONGER to get some damn answers for Armageddon.

I will not judge the game until I play it, but my hopes for this game, in the long run, went from "MUST BUY" to "Bargin Bin" to "Rental" to "Borrow a friend's copy." For a lifelong MK fan, that really bothers me.

Here's hoping that a "true" MK game will come along soon, with a killer story, viscious and brutal combat, imaginative moves and fatalities, and the massive overhaul we so desperately want and need from the franchise.

I initially loathed the idea. WHAT!? No answers for what happened after Armageddon. FUCKING BATMAN. Finishers? No Fatalities? IS THIS HELL? (o.k. the last one was a joke)

Then overtime, I was pretty indifferent. I was determined not to buy the game. No way in hell was Boon and Co./Midway getting my money. I did not want a crossover, I didn't ask for a crossover, a crossover to me was garbage.

Then gameplay videos started to surface...and I became intrigued. The gameplay looks to have taken a front seat in this game (you know, aside from the superheros) and I was impressed with what I saw. Then the roster started to trickle out, and aside from a couple glaring omissions(Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Quan Chi **shut up**) I was happy(Shang Tsung, The Joker, Shao Kahn, etc).

I've got the game on pre order and can't wait to play it. The game looks to be one of the best instalments the franchise has seen.

And yet, I'm still bummed. A crossover is still not what I wanted. A T-rating is not what I wanted. An answer for Armageddon's shit story, a dark, gritty, violent symphony mixed with great gameplay is what I want most....Hopefully MK vs DC II is not what the future holds, and come MK 9, I'll get the MK i so desperatly wanted. Until then, I think I will actually enjoy MK vs DC. I've come a long way.

About Me

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yes sir, the check is in the mail."

Jack Burton was utterly stunned when word got to him about the premise of the crossover...

I really did a good job at expressing my emotions from start to finish elsewhere on another thread, but to sum it up, I was shocked and WTFing like most everyone else. I mean, yeah, it's been a dream of mine to kick Superman's ass with Raiden, but to have it ACTUALLY happen...I was shitting bricks out of both amazement and fear of where exactly the franchise might be heading.

The design of the game, the new additions, the look, the fatalities (for the most part, anyway), Raiden, the new fighting system...all of these things got me excited for the game, and now I'm in full support of this game. I was there for the very first game when it hit home systems in '92 or '93 as a four year old, and I've followed the franchise ever since; naturally, I was just as surprised as any other hardcore fan of the series, but I kept my faith that the team knew what they were doing, and I'm convinced they know. I cannot wait to get my hands on this game; I really think it will be something special.

And THAT'S what Jack Burton has to say at this time.

No, I didn't change my mind furious Because I never hated this game in any way tongue When I saw the first trailer, I knew the Blood & Gore would be on the down-low, which I thought (and still think) is something MK has needed for a while. Not that over-the-top fatalities aren't cool, it just the fact that the MKteam needs to focus on gameplay for a game instead of just fatalities, so they can have both Awesome Fatalities and tuned-up gameplay for MK9.

I'm still a bit skeptical, but I'm willing to deal with it, as long as Ed Boon keeps his promise with bringing all the good stuff back with MK9.

Plus, Baraka and Quan Chi's in the game, so I can't argue with that. grin

At first it was complete surprise, especially seeing as there were murmurs about MK Vs DC for a while. I still suspect it was people taking a while stab in the dark. And they got fucking lucky.

Then it was annoyance that the first MK game for the next gen was a crossover. And not MK8, which was the game I was getting a bit hyped up for.

Viewing the trailer, it was disappointment seeing the same animations returning and the graphics didn't look very good. And then finding out its "only" 20-22 characters, which is barely scratching the surface for the two rosters.

I never hated the concept of MK VS DCU. In fact I enjoyed watching MK diehards commit hara kiri over the announcement.

Lately I have been looking forward to the game. Its scrubbing up nicely. Maybe looks a bit better than DOA4 now in terms of graphics. Shame about the animations. They need more love. Looking to be a shit hot story mode though. And the art does look awesome.

Maybe it isn't going to be the greatest fighting game of all time. But maybe, maybe, it'll be the first step in the direction to a good 100% MK game, next year.

Same as always. Few issues have been nullified or addressed since April though. Like graphically, I see that they put out sub-par renders on purpose (or rushed them). Some of the cover art backs this up.

I knew they could do better than what those renders are showing.

Something that's been nullified is the fun I had with the hoax idea.

But by and large, I'm still not interested in the premise of this game, or the story element, and I still don't believe that the gameplay is a strong selling point for MK.

Same as always.

I was all for it when I first heard about it. I mean come on Superman kickin the crap out of Scorpion, Sub-Zero whippin Flashes ass. Whats not to love about that?
