Although Batman sin't Kevin Conroy, Joker isn't Mark Hamill, and their basically no name voice actors picked up for cheap cash, I think the voice acting so far has been great! (With the exception of Shang tsung, where as the voice SOUNDS cool, it's just terrible, like an old kung fu movie) I loved how Batman sounded dark and serious, while Joker soundedmaniacal and crazy. Quan Chi soudned evil, Raiden and Superman both soudned great IMO. What do you think of the VAs? Good? Bad?

Shang Tsung's is by far the worst imo.

Well I wouldn't go that far... I don't know the names of the voice actors specifically, but I do recognize Joker//Raiden, Batman, and I think I've heard the voice for Kitana before too.
Point is, at least a couple of these folks are noticeable pros.
The voice acting is much better than we've ever seen in a MK game. Dialog though? The way some of this stuff was written, and read sounds a little too scripted at times.
It's not the best in the world, but I do appreciate this gigantic step in the right direction. From what's been presented so far, I'd say that this kind of talent needs to be (or sound like) the standard in the future.
What's missing is that things don't quite sound naturally spoken most of the times. I think they need to sit down, and figure out how to re-define the voiced stuff in MK(along with quite a few other elements).
For instance, to redefine the way Kitana talks, I don't think it's necessary for her to sound so.....so "pronounced and defined". It's the difference between saying:
"We must travel the vast Wastelnds, and descend the cliffs to blah, blah, blah.....!"
&
"We'd have to go through the Wastelands and down a mountain to blah, blah, blah...."
Point? When you say each of those out loud, one's more naturally spoken. BUT, if they're insistent on dating the way characters talk, see a historian or something. Right now characters sound so.....so over dramatic (mMooOOor-tal Kom-Bat!). They should be able to naturalize speech patterns without taking away from the mythos, mystique, and overall allure of a given character.
More conversational from some characters, other characters should be more goal oriented, and objective driven in their speech patterns.

Look at "Battlefield: Bad Company" for great voice acting all the way around. The way they did theirs makes it so that you look forward to the dialog in the game. Makes it a form of entertainment all by itself....and THEN the game is fun to play.

And by Sub Zero I of course mean Batman. So disregard.
But Batman is sounding kind of cheesy.
And yeah, Shang Tsung's is a bit iffy.

Yeah, I'm like Sub-Zero WTF? And I'm liking the cutscenes, LOVED taht look Sub-Zero gave Batman when he froze his arm.
Also, I have to say honestly, that I'm looking forward to seeing how Shao Kahn and Deathstroke are voiced.

Don't like batman.. but I have very high standards for batman.
Shang tsung and liu kang sounded kind of stupid.
You know what? I really don't see how voice acting is all that hard.. I mean.. How do they always seem to get people that read their scripts like they're robots.
BUT.. everyone else was ok.

the only person i really accept as batman is kevin conroy, everyone else just sounds meh to me as far as animation and such goes. i think the joker sounds great though, kind of reminded me of when mark hamill did it but it's probably not him.
shang tsung doesn't sound like i'd imagine him sounding. he sounds very...not old and asian.
i like kitana's voice too but as someone said i think i've heard it before somewhere.
wonder woman's voice is meh too.

The Joker actually kinda sounded like Mark Hamill which pleased me.
Shang Tsung hopefully talks but once or twice in the game.

Kevin Conroy IS Batman, as far as most fans are concerned. He nailed Batman's voice so perfectly, replicating him is darn near impossible. Same for the Joker. I mean, can you really top Luke Skywalker himself? I think not.
Personally, I think the voices are a tad 'meh'. That said, they're still a huge step up from that absolutely painful bad kung-fu movies-esque voice work from past titles.
That's not saying much.

The Joker and Raiden share vas, but him (Richard Epcar) and Boon are the only confirmed actors, by name, that I know of for Story Mode. That being said, definitely not picked up random. I've recognized a few from anime I've seen. And, I like their Batman, but its no Kevin Conroy.

The Joker was great IMO. Batman worked. Superman and Raiden sounded suitable. Shang Tsung is VERY off the mark. Just....really bad, which is dissapointing for my favorite charactar.
Off topic...I guess Conroy(Batman fame) and Hamill(Joker fame) are too busy working on Batman Arkham Asylum to be apart of this....damn that game looks super sexy.

Comprehend what you need to read,
vs
Motor Skills (ability to speak it the way you read it)
vs
Inflection (saying what you're supposed to, while impersonating the character....To A Specific Demand from the Characters sought after Personality).
Then there's a "pressure to produce perfection" behind a microphone. Even the most weathered MC's have to take takes from time to time. The goal in all this, is to capture perfection in as little time as possible. Because time is money. Especially hired talent, or on the other end, "studio time".
So, when I keep saying "sound more natural", it almost would require a comradery amongst the voice actors. Especially between any and all of the voice talent that sees their characters in game, interact on screen at any time.
I support spending alot of time in the booth during recording time. I also like the idea of freestyled rhetoric, or improvisation making the final cut. Have them in there during a fight scene -- actually shadow boxing or something while practicing their lines. Let them say what would feel right in that situation, but use the script and the character they are impersonating, as a definite guideline. That sort of thing.
It supports more conversation-like, or more confrontation-like rhetoric happening once they get done recording. More natural stuff going on in speech. It's the difference between "yelping" when you Actually fall out of a chair or something, and trying to capture that same emotional distress when simply impersonating that same event. Do it for real with a mic in the room. Is what I'm saying....Makes things sound more natural.
Think of when you talk to, or argue with a friend in real life.....someone intervenes in someone elses point that they're trying to make, someone else could be too assertive, someone could be a "loud talker", ect... We should be able to tell when there is a "leader" on screen without even actually looking at the screen. How? Cuz everybody else on screen would shut the hell up. lol! There's also a "presence" in a "leaders" voice or in his//her rhetoric too though...y'know, w/e.
These types of things need to breathe, through MK's vocal talent.

Its an improvement over the HORRID VO's of past MK titles, but its still not as good as it could be. A lot of it is just stiff dialogue, the overall narrative may be passable, but dialogue itself sucks a big noodlely appendage. I do like Batman's voice, The guy's no Kevin Conroy , but he kicks the crap out Jeremy Sisto and Rino Romano.

Hey,don't be dissing Romano. As crap as the Batman mostly was,he did a pretty good job. His playboy Bruce was spot on,and his Batman has gotten considerably more Goddamn in later seasons, when he was contrasted by Tim and Barbara and could, therefore, afford to sound all gruff and menacing.

I'm with you Vash i really wanted Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill and George Newbern as Superman.
To me them 3 are the definitive version of them characters
Other then that i like what i hear.

Seeing the bad VA in past MK's, this is one big step in the right direction. Most of them were really solid, others (like Shang Tsung) were not that great but still better than we have seen in the past games.
Overall I'm really pleased by the VA in this game.

The voice acting is okay. It isn't the pinnacle of greatness but it's a start for MK.
