I went out with a friend of mine not too long ago, and while we waited in line to use a restroom, a gay couple approached the line-up, looked, and noticed that there was no line-up for the ladies' room. One of them exclaimed, "I'm practically a woman," and waltzed right in, only to have a few women look at him questioningly, and a staff member of the coffee shop tell him that he was not allowed in there, regardless of him being gay, because he was a man. The guy seemed genuinely offended, even restating his argument that because he was gay, he was basically a woman, and therefore, should be allowed to use a woman's bathroom. He eventually gave up and waited in line with the rest of the men.
When I heard him proclaim that he was technically a woman, I couldn't help but scoff; just because he was gay doesn't mean his gender was different from the other guys in the line... Right? "Practically a woman" doesn't make him a woman; he just has a mentality that one might consider "feminine." Should the fact that he likes having sex with the same gender as himself mean he's really the opposite gender? Is it arguable that because he likes men, as a straight woman would, that he can consider himself more of a woman than a man?
This is an interesting thing to bring up, because what makes a man a man? Is it the penis? Is it liking women? Is it the style or colour of the clothing he wears? Is it just how he perceives himself that day? If a man is bisexual, is he less of a man? If a woman is bisexual, is she more masculine? Yes, some of these questions might sound ridiculous, but I'm willing to bet that this guy was not alone in thinking that things are black and white when it comes to gender, when in reality, it's a variety of greys, especially with gender roles breaking down in this century (stay-at-home dads, bread-winner wives, etc).
I'm sure a lot of people will have quite a bit to say on this, considering MKO has quite a few homosexual users. What does everyone think about this story? What does it make you feel about your sexuality? Do you agree with this individual about homosexuals being practically women? Does it make you rethink your own sexuality, your own gender?

Well to answer the subject topic: No, he needs to stay the fuck out of the ladies room. Whether he is gay or not isn't really the issue. If he is invading the ladies' privacy, and they feel uncomfortable having a man share their restroom, then he needs to respect that. That's the whole point of segregated restrooms. He may never take a second glance at those women, but it doesn't mean he has the right to be so selfish. Honestly, it seems like he was using the fact that he was gay to try and get special privileges, because he thought nobody would stand up to him in fear of being offensive.
I'll let someone else answer your other questions, as I am heterosexual. I wouldn't be able to give you the type of answer you are looking for. I know there are a few users who would have some very interesting input on this topic.

Homosexual user here.
Ahem.
Get the fuck out of the ladies room. You have a penis. They have a vagina. They are not comfortable with you being in their bathroom. If you are transgender, then I say by all means. But if you are a male homosexual, you have no place in the ladies room. Sexual orientation does not mean anything.
That guy is a creep, regardless of sexual orientation.

This here is a guy who makes all LGBT folks look bad.
This here is a guy I'd like to beat the hell out of.
I hate it when people do shit like this. I don't care how feminine or masculine you are, your gender is your gender. Now, I'd totally understand if the guy genuinely saw himself as a woman, but the mere use of the world "practically" proves he was just being a lazy fuck.
I wish I could've been there, just so I could say, "I bend over, too. You don't see me shoving a tampon up my ass, do you?"
Gender =/= sex.
Just because you're gay, you aren't allowed in the women's room.
Although, I've been in plenty of bars where there was a men's and women's room that are meant for one person at a time, so nobody cared who went into which room as long as it was one at a time.
And I know plenty of gay guys and girls who don't mind each other's companies while their pissing. In fact I know plenty of girls who will take me with them into the restroom. I don't get woman's incessant need to not pee alone.
Regardless, pissing with friends is one thing.
However, I find it disrespectful to overstep your boundaries with strangers, especially in an area as notoriously private and serious as a restroom.

As a gay person myself. I believe that was wrong of him. Even though I believe he didn't deliver his message correctly. I think his intentions were, "I can go into a lady's bathroom. After all, I'm not turned on by them." Which in his case, it's probably true.
However, the reason I believe gay men shouldn't be allowed into a women's bahtroom is for the simple fact that ANY men can go and say "I'm gay, so therefore I can go into the women bathroom."
I wish society would understand that the gay community also has dumb, ignorant, closed minded people. Just like any other community does. People should be judge by their own persona, not by their sexuality, race, social status, etc.

If a room is specifically for pennesses, then all of whom have pennesses should go in there. If a room is made for vajanas, then all of whom have vajanas should go in there. Regardless of sexuality. Being gay doesn't give you a vajana, and vice versa.
BTW, "Practically a Women"? Loloz

O agree with the comments. I do not have a problem with any homosexual people whatsoever, though it is still a strange sight to see the opposing gender walking into the woman's bathroom. It's not like I wouldn't trust someone who is gay making that statement before entering a stall, it's just that it's still somewhat uncomfortable knowing that a man, gay or not, is using a stall next to me.
Though gay guys really shouldn't say, "I'm practically a woman," that's not right whatsoever. As stated from other users, if you still have the man parts down there, you're not a woman, no matter how flamboyant you can be, you're not a woman.
Unless you have a sex change, or happens to be both genders, (I forgot the actual name for that), then you can say, "I'm practically a woman."
So no, your friend did something wrong, and should understand that just because he's gay does not mean he can claim that he is like a woman.

Hermaphrodite, and the guy's no friend, just a random moron wanting to use a bathroom.

I have absolutely no problem with homosexuality, but that guy is full of it. He was just trying to skip the line.
If some man just marched into the women's restroom, I would probably be so creeped out that I might just find another bathroom.
It doesn't matter if he's gay. He's a man! If there was a lesbian woman who was kind of butch, it doesn't mean she's "practically a man."
However, if he had a sex change or genuinely was a hermaphrodite, I would have no qualms with that.

I haven't read any of the comments so far other than the OP, I'm just going to say he's a fricken idiot. It's about social dynamics and context, why in the world anybody would think it would be okay to go in the opposite sex's bathroom is beyond me, it's weird if a guy or girl does it. It's quite obvious that people would be uncomfortable to anybody who is a self aware individual. If he was transgendered or an Hermaphrodite, I'd understand.
What an embarassment to himself.
I'm gay, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm a man. I would find it demeaning to not be considered a man, just because of who I'm attracted to in life. Being a man is more than just who you lay down next to at night or your anatomy.
Gays come in all shapes and sizes, the uber butch to the feminine, we're as varied as the straight community.
Regular guy going into Criminal Justice to be a cop, I just happen to think Shia Labeouf is beautiful, that's the only difference between me and any other regular guy, interesting thread, I'll have to read some of the comments later.

The more important question is why was there a line at the men's room at not at the women's room? I have never seen that happen.
On a more related note that guy was just an asshole who didn't want to wait to use the bathroom.

Oh whoops, I must have just read the first sentence too quickly and thought you were talking about a friend of yours that was gay. My mistake. But thanks for the word that I was talking about though.
But I will also like to ask the same question as what another user did... How was there a line for the man's room? EVERYWHERE and I do mean EVERYWHERE you go, it takes five minutes to get to a stall using the woman's restroom. That is a rare siting.

At this particular coffee shop, for whatever reason, the men's bathroom had a single toilet, and that was it, while the women's bathroom had 2. Also, someone was sick and using the bathroom and had been in there for a good while. Why there wasn't a urinal in there, or another toilet, I have no clue.

Oh, I'm gay and I am all man.
Now, hand me my stockings, please.

Homosexual here as well --
I actually have used the ladies room before, however, it was one of those restrooms that only allowed entry of one person at a time.
It's not necessarily a big deal, that is, considering that there are no other women in the restroom at that particular time...

I'm gay and his behaviour disgusts me. Whoa dude you still got a penis. Come on!
I wouldn't accept his doings either. However, the differences between genres aren't all that black and white: in personality and appearance (transgender) some individual men can seem more woman than a woman would be and vice versa. Depending on how much testosterine an embryo receives from its mother, the more masculine or feminine the child becomes regardless the gender.
If you want to find out to which gender you actually orient, take a moment and make the BBC Sex I.D. test. Remember to reserve a ruler for measuring a few fingers of yours.
Back to the situation in the bar; would have you accepted it if it was the other way around where a woman would have visited the mensroom? Would have it depended on her looks and behavior? I personally wouldn't likely have been disturbed by that if she looked beautiful and acted nice, perhaps being bisexual, even if it weren't ethically correct. If it'd happen all the time I'd say her to stop it though.

As a gay guy I must say id never go into a womens restroom like that. I beleive there are cases when a guy could possibly get away with it (at say a private function where he knows most of the people etc, but thats a little different). But not in a public place. I dont agree with that. But would i go as far as to say it 'disgusts' me, nah I dont think so.
I think he was probably just trying to jump the queue and thought he would chance his luck. Not that that makes it ok.
Some gay guys DO kind of count themselves as being more 'womanly'. But I think its quite rare, even among more camp/effeminite guys. Even tho they like other men, being a man is still usually a huge part of their identity.
Like toxik and some others have mentioned there are minorities within every minority that act/behave to the extreme and make the rest of said minority look bad or look a certain way.
Its difficult tho because in my eyes, ultimately, a man is a man if they have a penis. Biology speaks for itself - Penis = man, Vajayjay = woman lol.
But yes there are people who have gender identity issues (male and females) and believe themselves to be one sex trapped in the other's body, which must be something awful to live with. So its tricky. I guess that then opesn up the whole 'physical' and 'emotional' gender denbate. I do beleive a man can feel like they are a woman emotionally/mentally and vice versa.
Out of interest do americans use the word 'camp' to describe gay guys behaviour?

I must admit I myself would be more enticed than displeased if a beautiful woman entered the men's restroom.
Still, of all things I would be curious as to why she entered. I'd ask, of course, and with this one of two things would occur:
1. If she genuinely needed to use the restroom, I would guard her stall out of kindess, but make imperative she's doesn't do this again.
2. If her reasons for entering have nothing to do with natural release, I would deem her a crazy weirdo, and have her leave the restroom immediately.

Penis = Dude
Vagina = Gal
Stay outta there, dude.
Plus, not all females are accepting of homosexuality either. Think about it.
