Mine is the same way. I doubt it, but who knows.

It means being tricked into looking at a website that you thought was something totally different via a link. For example, if I say: Here are some cute kittens, then you click on it and it is porn, I have rickrolled you. From what I have heard it is named after Rick Astley, a pop singer from the 80's.

Rick Astely < Rick James
People can also be rickrolled in real life by telling another person to "Look at my hand" and slapping them and yelling "I'M RICK JAMES BITCH!"

D_W, I laugh at your depression-inducing attempt at getting some left-over limelight from the orgasmic Army, growing by the day. Just because I refused to let you join doesn't mean you have to hate on everyone else who made it. I just found no talents we could use from you, I'm sorry... you'd just take up space without giving anything back to the merciless community. Good to see you can make fire effects on photoshop, though, that's always nice. ( _______________. ________________)

For a website, it might just boil down to popularity...or better yet....."Democracy". "The People" always choose their leaders, down to minuscule factions like neighborhood watch committees. Smaller circles are never less bias. They're always more. Think about "Rules of a Hosehold" for instance...

Yeah, but that's not necessarily true. Democracy is but an idea... and much like communism, when enacted it simply will not work. There are no true democracies in the world today, and this site also cannot be ran as a democracy. As many "serious business" jokes as their are on the internet and as many are given as replies to me personally, it's true... this is a serious site. With a selection process from those who already run the site, we at least ensure that there won't be any catastrophic decisions made. While they may not always be the "most popular" of selections, they will not have any long lasting negative effects. If we allowed the users just to "elect" the most popular people on the forums as moderators and Staff members, do you think that Ed Boon and the MK team would still be willing to come back here for events almost every year? I think not, because a lot of "popular" people might be well liked... but that does not translate into being someone who is a good leader or someone who is dedicated enough to not just "get fed up" with this. The way the site is ran works; it just does. If it didn't, it wouldn't have lasted as long as it has nor have had the popularity and notability that it does. I know it's just a Mortal Kombat fansite, but how often do fansites have more traffic than any of the official sites? It is important we keep a professional outlook, but also have some interaction and input from the community. The ANTM contest was designed so that everyone could see what basically goes on in a typical meeting in which a candidate is selection, only the contest is a bit deeper and obviously more drawn out, and allows for everyone to know exactly what's going on, rather than it being a surprise like usual.
An answer to the italics: More people influence the preliminaries, the more you're liable to influence the bias. "Data".
Point in all this is, though there may be some kind of bias no matter the end result, People can generally tell right from wrong. When you incorporate, or "use" the power of the people for this kind of thing, all you have left to question are two things: Morale(which should be easy to see on the forums), and Longevity(the challenge of time).
Then it just depends on your personal or systematic standards for the candidate of the position, since you have the final say.
Yeah, but like I said, the judges are still all the same people pretty much. Sure, tgrant is a "regular member", but he has been a moderator in the past more than once and it is the first time SPs will influence the selection process in such a way. But in the end, it's still going to come down to the same people making the same decisions. This contest will likely influence my decision I suppose... I may not do the same things I would have had this contest not been started.

I know that I have zero official capacity on this site, and not a lick of the credentials to have much input. I do have to say however that a "game" such as ANTM can actaully create a negative effect when it comes to finding a candidate. It seems to me that many people who wish to be a mod are the least qualified, and quite often, the least deserving. I am not downing anyone in the competition to any degree. It just seems to me that anyone who actively seeks power, probably shouldn't be trusted with it. If nothing else I am sure that the way people "play the game" is a better judge of whom to pick, than who actually wins. Just my 2cents, but I have seen some serious friction between people over some of the results. Either way, I don't envy you in the task of picking moderators from such a...... difficult cast of characters.
