Stupid IMO to restart the franchise over. The first movie was good, and it's not like there's been a lot of movies for the franchise to justify a new take on it IMO. A third movie could still work given the horrendious script of Annihalation IMO, and who really wants to see the first MK movie redone?

Well this is very good news. Now maybe we'll get a real Mortal Kombat movie.

It should all fall in line with the new game too. Mk8, then movie, then merchandising, then another game to follow it up..ect.
Put your seat belts on, the're taking us on another ride.

I personally think whatever next movie they come with will be fantastic. They got more than enough money to make this film look and feel right. And according to the quality of some of these other, younger "video-game" movies, I don't have a reason to doubt the movie will be great.

Two years? We should get a movie? Might not even take that long considering the short time some of these movies are put together in. I know a couple of those Jet-Li movies were"filmed"(specificlly) in like, three months or so..
Fresh ideas, Solid as a rock story THAT IS CANNON WITH THE GAMES, and Character selection//"make-up" will be the key....

Actually, I think that's why they need to "restart" the franchise, because of the mess that was made in MK: Annihilation.

I just wonder which direction they would take if they restart. Would it go directly to Shao Kahn's invasion? With so many characters and storylines, they don't have to make a 50 hour movie, but at least give the audience an understanding of who each character is.

I understand that other movies like X-Men aren't able to go in-depth with literally all the characters and everything, but at least we are given a sound storyline, somewhat of an understanding for all the characters, and an overall quality movie.

I think this is a practical god-send. I don't see why so many MK fans liked the first movie so much more than the second. I think they are both disasters, with the first one being only slightly better than the second. I'm glad they are making an Original film. That way they can introduce 9 or 10 characters, kill very few of them, then move on to a sequal that will introduce a few more characters.

Anderson screwed the original movie series by having every enemy killed off in his movie. Then the sequal crapped all over the first one by having most dead characters return. They also tried to cram too many characters into the movie.

Trying to feature too many characters could be this new movies downfall. Same thing happened to X-men 3 (still a good movie, just not enough screen time for all those characters).

I think this reboot should feature MK1 and some MK2 characters. Heres my list-
Johnny Cage
Sonya Blade
Liu Kang
Raiden
Shang Tsung
Reptile
Goro
Scorpion
Kano
Sub-Zero
Maybe Kitana and Kung Lao, with a mention of some other key MK2 characters, like Jax and Shao Kahn.

The movie should show each characters reason for fighting. The only characters I think should die are Goro, Sub-Zero, and maybe Kano. I'm thinking Sonya could defeat and supposedly kill Kano, then he could return in some other sequal. There should also be some mystery as to why Scorpion killed Sub-Zero, and this could be explained in a future sequal.

And Reptile should fight someone, probably Johnny Cage, in the pit.

And who cares what Paul Anderson thinks about this new movie. Whenever he makes a movie, he ruins almost any chance for that franchise to have a great movie again. Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, AvP, etc.

If its a restart entirely, then it'll probably start with MK1. And Since Mink reportedly went to Lambert and Shou, then it most likely will be Mk1 or later. I'm betting it'll take place during the first game.

This has what i've been hoping for. A complete restart. They really need to get it right this time. Maybe they could include the first 3 games into on movie, if they did it right, and it was long enough.

It could go either way, but I hope this turns out good. The movie needs to be pretty well grounded in reality and not have too many characters, because that is why the second movie was so messed up. It'd be great if this was a way to introduce the story of the MK8 since they are starting over in the games as well.

This has been something I've been secretly dreaming for for a long time.

But if they want to do a complete re-start, dont use Christopher Lambert and Robin Shou. It needs to be Dark, Haunting and VIOLENT. Whilst I think taking advantage of the complex story and characters, it can also use that violent edge that made the game so popular in the first place.

I think merging the plot of MK1 and 2 together could work.

I just want it rated R like the first one was supposed to be.It just feels funny that their remaking a movie thats only 12 years old.

They've remade younger movies, hell I think they are remaking, or "reimagining" the Hulk already.

Although a restart is a good idea i still think the first movie is a classic and using that movie as a base is always a good move.

No, they are making a hulk sequel. And i never heard of a movie younger then 12 years getting remade, not counting american remakes of forein films. And it dosen't sound like a remake to be honest, sounds like a rebirth or a reboot. But i agree, they need to get a director that takes MK seriously, that knows the characters and that has great imagination and vision. Hell, they can get one of us to direct,lol.
