Jax looks great for the most part. I don't like how it looks like he removed his arms and replaced them with metal ones though. I was more into it when it was somewhat implied he could remove them.

Jax is sexy beast once again! YEAH! XD He looks great! And his moves are pretty damn awesome. My only complaint is the same as Oracles, while I like the look of the metal arms, I don't like how it seems his real arms were amputated and replaced by the cybernetic ones. Bring on Sonya!

Wow, everything looks great! Jax and Subby's head rip look awesome, but man... the Subway fatality! That was freakin' great... a MUCH better improvement over the original and Armageddon's.

I've always thought Jax's arms were taken off him from a mirror match and thats' why he had implants.

So the look of them feel's ok for me.

I would of like to see some purple on him.

Other than that... AWESOMENESS!!!!

Wow, what a great update!
Glad to see a new character model and stage!
A grapple heavy MK character? Sounds great, this has never (really) been done in MK before and Jax is the perfect candidate.

The Subway fatality is awesome too, great work!

Okay constructive criticism time!

- First off, my biggest criticism of the game is one I've had from the very beginning and now it especially bugs me having seen the game direct-feed on an HD TV. The lighting system is pretty darn bad!

In the GT episode they kept saying how they're bringing MK into 2011 tech-wise. Well guess what... pretty much all PS3/360 games in 2010 and even games before have had self-shadowing as a lighting technique to make characters look that much better and realistic. Hell, even Street Fighter IV implored a good self-shadowing lighting technique and that came out in 2009 and had cartoony characters!!! There should be no excuse why MK 2011 does not implore self-shadowing. I guarantee adding just that one lighting technique would improve the games look ten fold!

- Jax's design is pretty cool. I'm honestly surprised he differs so much from the MK vs DCU Jax, as I think Scorpion and Sub-Zero are still a little too close to their MK vs DCU counterparts.

Still don't like Jax having a gun on his back. Unless it's somehow supported by his cybernetic arms I don't see how it can be floating in the middle of his back without any straps or supports of any kind.

The team has weird ideas to me sometimes. As soon as Boon said they combined Jax's two original Fatalities I was like "Yes!" but then he described it and I was immediately disappointed!

I mean you have a head smash and arm rip fatality and you have the head smash first!?!?!? The victim is already dead why rip the arms off at all??? As described, the Fatality is extremely disappointing.

They should either have Jax rip off the arms and smash the head by clapping the victims arms together or have Jax rip off the arms throw them down on the ground (ala MK4) and then while the opponent is still in so much agony from having their limbs ripped off he should then clap his hands together ending the victims suffering.

Overall, Jax looks pretty cool, just not a fan of his gun seemingly stuck magically to his back and if his Fatality remains as described, I will be disappointed.

- I hope Sub-Zero's spine rip Fatality was just for the demonstration with Geoff Keighley because it was pretty bland and horribly unfeasible! I understand why it was unfeasibly performed back in the day but with todays graphic fidelity it could look so much better!

Even the MK 4 version was a least a little more feasible than the new one. I don't understand how the MK team cannot come up with a more feasible version of this Fatality. Notice I say feasible and not realistic. I understand with MK there should be a suspension of disbelief but come on! He just grabs the victims neck and pulls up without barely any resistance! Really hope this isn't Sub-Zero's third Fatality and was just for GT TV.

- The subway to me has always been a fairly boring stage. I was never a fan of the more urban aesthetic MK 3's stages had. It looks pretty much like you would expect. I like it, I just know that when the game comes out there will be a bevy of stages I will favor over it.

The stage Fatality was cool though for sure!

Well those are my thoughts for now :)

Overal very pleased with what I saw from GT, except for the following;

- Jax's victory pose; looks stupid. Change it to something that makes more sence, like saluting or a slam on the ground.

- Jax's X-ray; everyone keeps saying how awesome it is (I guess its the effect of a new reveal) but it actually isn't that awesome. He does the same thing twice! And whats worse, he doesn't make use of his bionic arms in his X-ray. Make him grab you, break your back on his knee, drop you on the ground, ending it with a huge slam on your body with his bionic arm.

- Sub-Zero's spine rip; ever since I saw Kung Lao's buzz saw fatality, all other fatalities seem like nothing compared to it. Some come a little closer (Cage's fatality maybe) but what others lack is where the victim is suffering. In Lao's fatality the victim tries to crawl away, only to be sucked into this saw (crotch first) in a slow way, while screaming and dying a painful and humiliating death. No other fatality has this factor.

Here's what you can do with Sub-Zero's spine rip. Make the victim hold Sub-Zero's hand (with both hands) in a desperate attempt to make him not rip off your head. Then when he rips the head off and shows it, make the mouth still move or twitch. Thats right; if you make one fatality so sick, do the same thing with the other ones.

Having seen the whole video now, I'm very happy with this update.

I have to say, this is the very first Mortal Kombat where I find myself extremely eager to play as every single character, multiple times, not just as a "check him out once and move on" type of thing. Usually I just won't get off Sonya's ass for shit, but this time, I am incredibly excited to at least partially master multiple characters, and Jax just skyrocketed to the top of my list.

As a big fan of tiny details, I am particularly happy with Jax's voice. In comparison to MKDC, it's a lot more gruff. He speaks as if snarling, whereas in the past his one-liners came in a simplistically low-pitched, deep tone (lazy "tough-guy" voice). Now he actually sounds like a unique human being, not just a stereotype of a random "big guy in fighting game". He sounds believably bad-ass, not forced. Overall, cool as hell. He and Sonya are gonna make one fucking sick tag-team.

(And if specific Tag-Team fatalities make it in, I can only imagine how awesome theirs will be).

Jax looks great, and it's nice to see the improvements on the anatomy of the fighters with still a lot more time for more improvements. I can't imagine how polished and gorgeous they can make this game look once it goes Gold.

First off what an awesome update. NRS this is how you give an update. I want more like this.

Best Jax since MK2/3. Great updated look. Some cool moves.

Subway - Nice to see some more MK3 love. I always thought it was the better MK3 backgrounds. The fatality is nothing short of awesome.

Sub's spine rip didn't look the best but is quick and effective

The second slam of the x-ray is actually on the back of Jax's neck, making it awesome.

a lot of us say that the Spine Rip maybe was just for GT demostration and not a game actual fatality.
But this was the only fatality shown in the video.
So why all this fuss from GT all those days, with banners saying
NEW FATALITIES REVEALED??
first, there was only one,
so no fatalitiES , but fatalitY. Secondly, would they just show a fatality that would not be in the actual game? i have no idea..

(ok, maybe the stage fatality counts?)

First of all, its "with an Afghan flag" not "with a Afghanistan flag" and its "says so" not "say so". Learn your own language. Second, my nationality or my political views have nothing to do with a fictional game that has nothing to do with Afghanistan. I simply think that wrapping a flag around his body does not fit with Jax and that there are tons of other cool stuff you could do with Jax's victory pose. If you would take a look at some other reponses on his victory pose, intead of coming here with your retarded comment, you might have seen that there are others with "no Afghan flag" who dislike his victory pose.

@ SenorLopez

I would say his current one is cool, what I suggested would be awesome. But thats my opinion.

1. Sub-Zero's Spine Rip
2. Subway stage fatality
3. Ed mentioned Jax's first fatality being he claps the head of the victim and rips their arms off. In other words, Jax's fatalities from MK2 combined into one.

Personally, I'm inclined to agree. A salute, or something like it, probably would seem more appropriate to the character and give him conceptual strength, if you choose to disregard the many deviations they've made over the years (from a military centre). Then again, it's fair to say there was a bit of a pro wrestler flamboyance in Jax from the beginning, highlighted by his cheesy grin original flexing win pose. So maybe there should be some room to move.

It's a pretty over-the-top concept and could be construed as touching upon some sensitive recent history (ie; Iraq), but maybe that's okay.

The first thought I had was Rocky IV [pictured below] meets an Earthrealm/Outworld twist. It's a big, colourful, wacky gesture, but in a game where everything is essentially things we already know, maybe that's justification enough . Dressing in these games doesn't need to be literal, and has often been filled with fun little exceptions. Whether it's just a splash of colour to an otherwise plain design, or an animation used during the liberation of Edenia from Outworld, it might just be fun enough to justify breaking character for the sake of keeping the game fresh!

The game's populated almost exclusively by Americans and token Asians, some of whom have taken on Americanized details (ie; Sub-Zero). This kind of cartoon patriotism probably isn't all that shocking. If it's a nod to Rocky, or some such, maybe think of it as a fun pop culture easter egg, like all the other movie and comic book references that have worked their way into the games over the years.

You have to ask yourself the question: "Would John Parrish drape an American flag over his shoulders after beating a lizard-man into unconsciousness?"

The answer: YES.

Yes, he certainly would.

Jax oozes americana in a weird way. He's all "Red White and Blue. Stars and Stripes forever". That's kind the attitude he's always given off, even in MK 2 his character selection he has the American flag there. It's part of who he is as a character so I think the victory pose fits him perfectly even if it is a bit cheesy.
